Get on it anyway. I see people in their 80s learning here in the Gorge every day I'm out. You can do it. It's like the ping pong of water sports with a payback like some fabulous drug. Do it. Get knee pads for the first few days too if you really think you are old.

From my experience doing windfoiling (similar enough), I can confirm that it's hard on the knees, haha. Lots of bending them and straightening them. However, it's almost effortless other than that. It is also a blast 🙂

She's a very stable rider, even when getting tossed about by those gusts. Her feet and legs seem to be working remarkably well all by themselves. It's interesting and fun to watch. I really like the long shots, they're quite engaging, this one particularly so. Thanks.
I notice her foot stance is off-center, particularly her front foot not over the centerline (like most videos tell you to). She really drives the turns this way, it seems.
She has literally no style. I was expecting to see some gnarly carving or pumping. It's like her knees aren't even bent. Horrible style and boring video.
@@erikdeeNOSPELLSNO On the day I filmed that clip it was blowing 30+mph and there is a constant wind swell to glide on. The prototype wing she's using is 1.4m and she is on a high aspect wing. I filmed this on my kite foil and holding my camera attached to a 1m stick. I posted almost 250 videos and most of them are a bunch of clips edited together while a few are just raw one single take clips like this one. We have an abundance of turtles at our spot and they are featured throughout my videos with lots of underwater shots as well. I also efoil and couldn't think of any reason to bring along a wing, just bring the remote (she is not holding one) and foil. Glad to hear you want to try this sport, it's so much fun. Would you also say the reduced drag of the foil vs sailboard makes a big difference on effort? It looked like she didn’t have to constantly catch the wind and would just “coast”some of the time.

That's badass... and that sea turtle avoidance was Premium! if I had the storage for the equipment, I be out there experiencing the action too. Although I'm not against trying this hobby to see I'd want to invest in pursuing it personally. Looks like a ton of fun, along with a sense of therapeutic serenity !! There are plenty of ways to recover your sanity than crawling into a bottle at the end of every work week! Well done!!!
As said above, its underwater. The way shes flopping that wing around, and the lack of tension in her arms and body, you can tell those forces are not at all in proportion to whats required to keep that board moving at such a consistent high speed.
@@robinmorritt7493 I would have expected her to loose her balance in some instances where she's resisting the force from the wing in a destabilizing manner..... It's easier to stay on the board without the wing.
@@leandroagonzalez3 Nope- you stabilize the wing with you core as your body is constantly correcting for the wind blowing against it. If you didn’t stabilize with your core-constantly- the wind would topple her off the board. And the core stabilization to stay on the foil is more subtle and balance oriented- but it’s no less work.

It's surprisingly easy actually, at least if I go by windfoiling, my heart rate doing this kind of thing is average 100 bpm (same as walking fast). It does take some great balance and a strong core never hurts
@@noe616 Would I be right in thinking it is only suitable for deeper (one metre plus) water due to the hydrofoil 'stalk' length? I used to watch folk using the old style 'big board and sail' windsurfers in very shallow waters (thinking of Poole harbour with the tide out).
You can get get started with as little as $1000 for a used setup. It can get pricey buying different size wings, foils and boards to cover different wind and swell conditions. 🤙🏼

1m + sounds about right, you can foil in less but to get up initially you need that 1m. 🤙🏼
