The video turned out well. I really enjoyed my time with you over the two days and got some great insights. I am working on more ideas for my next painting when I get home. Arrived in Paris and have been to see the Musee D’Orsay and taken hundreds of pictures, tomorrow I hit the Louvre for the day.
as always learnt a great deal and watched till the end. Still 100%watching complete videos. Think I am getting braver with the darker skies and becoming looser in my skies. Thankyou for your experience sharing and knowledge. There aren't too many people that have your breadth of skill and experience willing to share in quite the way you do.
Fantastic! The sky part was a revelation. It all came together when you softened with your wispy glances. Thank you for the great class! Can't wait for part 2!
I started watching at night but your mellow voice put me to sleep, I woke up and there was a beautiful painting. I will have to watch again during the daytime. Thank you for sharing.
I really appreciated your comments about what you were thinking were you going to do and how you envisioned the light. I really felt that I was understanding your thought process in this video. I also laughed out loud at a number of your jokes! Thank you so much for these videos! I hope your student has had a profitable time with you.
Very nice, and looking forward to seeing it finished. At 37:32, when you took away a little bit of the blue horizon, I saw a river, way off in the distance...and then you ruined it! lol
Hi Stuart, painting looks amazing. I watch your videos with wonder as a beautiful landscape is revealed before my eyes and in such a relatively short time. I've never painted other than a kid, but youve captured my imagination and I've bought some oil paint to have a go, got to have something to do when I eventually retire😂. Anyway, may I ask what brushes you use? Most of the ones I see for sale are the thin ones, yours look more like decorating brushes, no offence 😊
One thing I’ve wondered about. Is there a way to treat canvas in a way that would make it easier to move the paint around, the way you make it move over a primed and sanded wood board? I don’t mind using wood, but I have several canvases, and wondered if I could put on more gesso layers and sand them, or do you really need the rigidity of the wood to make it work? Great landscape btw, and I like your usual verbiage. I think you should treat your words the way you approach painting; don’t care what other people think.
I squeegee gesso over canvas to fill the grain. It comes out nice. If you leave the grain, it eats more paint, & you really have to scrub to get a nice effect. But thats just me. I always forget..."fill the grains, why struggle" & I end up struggling.
Very nice. Good luck to your student, nothing like seeing it for real. *every time i glaze..it beads up! I've changed everything but the hardware store boiled linseed oil. Its all i could figure is causing it. Amount for price is the only reason ive bought it. But i go through alot.
@@StuartDavies right. Spirits added i get less beading. I also mixed detergent in the spirits. But getting a nice transparent glaze without stroke marks is tricky. I'll keep trying things until I figure it out. Not glazing works!

Thanks, Marc! It was a pleasure to meet you. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Thanks!
Thank you, John!
The contrast between light blue sky and the dark cloud on top is perfect. It came out perfect for a source of light from behind the dark cloud.
Love love watching you do a painting. Learning so much. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.❤

Amazing sky and Landscape full of light.
Loved this. Thank you Stuart! Looking forward to part 2. 🎨
One of your best tutorials! Really teaches you even the basics . Thank you for sharing!
Incredible, as always, Stuart! It never fails to amaze me, how the tiniest change can make such a big difference. Awesome sky AND salad!
Great video as always. Always a higlight of the day when you put up new videos.

I love the distance you have achieved in this gorgeous work. Dreamy .
Simply amazing! The sky is so effective and together with the landscape, fantastic 👏👏
Lovely painting. Very very nice
Fantastic tutorial, Stuart, possibly your best demonstration of painting a sky. I also love the semi-abstract approach to painting the salad 😍
Look forward to part 2

Like it!
Brilliant, as always, Stuart.
I'm looking forward to the glazing part.
Will you follow with a part III on varnishing this?
Yes, but not for a few months.
@@StuartDavies Indeed!
This is one of your best sky tutorials yet. You gave some very excellent tips as well! I’d mumble it to you if I knew how to in text form😁
Another great video, Stuart! Are there any plans for another seascape?
Eventually, yes!
Great! Thank you so much!!

There's a boomer zoomer joke in there somewhere but I just can't think of one lol..
as always your work is phenomenal Mr. Davies.

Beading could be too much oil, or the surface needs to be degreasd a bit.

T'riffic !!!
No music please your voice is so calming, and the silence in between is no problem, part of the experience.
Don't you dare change any of the words you use, especially "Those Bits!"
