my approach to history is different from yours, but I agree with you: it's one of the reasons, if not the song, a concoction of which Eddy's, Peter's, Amnesty's, Angela's, Nina's, along with many other celebrities and organizations, as well as the lives of those famous giants such as Bantu Stephen Biko, as well as many anonymous ones. Be that as it may, I love this song and always use it to teach apartheid. And, on a different note: it's great for dancing, ain't it?! ;)
This song resonates even to this day, I remember protesting as a child in the 1980's against apartheid and I remember what they classed Nelson Mandela as before releasing him. He also advocated for Palestine saying South Africa will not be truly free until Palestine is free. Apartheid is a disgusting regime and needs to be removed. The song lyrics fully applies with Palestine today, May God have mercy on the Palestinians still being subjected to this brutal regime.
This is a most important song. I was a young Scandinavian teen at the time it was published. It made me notice what it was about, and I asked my parents and my teachers about apartheid. I was horrified. It was one of the reasons I began to watch the news daily. Eddy you made me open my eyes. Thank you.
Still remember those times, this song.. It spread throughout the world and it for sure helped the cause so much. The text is almost literally applicable to the situation in Palestine. Thank you South Africa for taking what you've learned in your own country and stepping up to also take down the Israeli Apartheid regime!
The ANC was bankrupt to the point they had no money to run upcoming elections. Suddenly their debts are cleared, and within days of Oct 7th they announce they are taking Israel to the ICJ. Hmm pretty sure the ANC's books are going to be audited, because it looks like its Iran or HAMAS paying them.
There is no apartheid in Israel. Israel has Arabs Muslims. Arab Christians, Druze, Christians. Some in the Knesset, some in the IDF. You cant say the same for the Arab countries like Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Yemen who made their countries Judenrein aka Jew free. Jews were found throughout the Middle East, it is where we come from. We were in the ME first, before Christiantiy and before Islam. And well before the Arabs left the Arabian Peninsula.

I always thought this song was just an 80s dance song until was driving alone earlier this day, 26 June 2022, when the radio station I'm listening to plays 80s music. This song played and I listened carefully to the lyrics and realized the meaning of the song. Now I'm inlove with this song.

ANC had to take the helm and stop the white racists from forcing their way in and carry on with the likes of Terreblanche as per the past. You had help from abroad.
