My first Reggae song I danced to and it was played all night in a big warehouse with a bunch of Rastas!!!! This was the start of my love for Reggae music!
For those who were partying in NY: At the Loft this came on around noon, just when you thought you had danced your last dance for the morning. Memories. you know who you are!
I am a white male who was into heavy rock at this time. I remember lying in my bed listening to radio Caroline in the early 1980s, no booze, no drugs, and I was completely blown away by this track, that went on for about 10 minutes, it was a turning point in my life that I've never forgotten.

I remember being on the dancefloor of The Paradise Garage, and asking a brother who was this ? He told me it was Eddy Grant. On that Richard Long system, that sound brought out all the things that Eddy put into this song. Then Larry mixing the instrumental like it was all one record, would put you in a fucking amazing zone that I will never forget... The message in that song still holds true to this day. This song really resonated with me. I live in Bristol, just 3 miles from where the first riots started in Britain and a part of it was nicknamed the front line. Many of us travelled to support our brothers in arms and to try to fight the corruption of a Margaret That her led Tory party. It became a no go area but only because it was being left to rot and its people treated beneath contempt. I wish Eddy would come back into the music scene. He wrote a coup,e of real anthems. @ Ben Finch. The Labour government put a lot of money into infrastructure and St Paul's became a much nicer area with many new homes and a community centre that is still put to good use now. Winter fuel payments, free TV licenses and eye and dental care for pensioners. The minimum wage was implemented and so much more was done in that time. I am 52 so I lived through Thatchers savage governments and I can't think of even one thing that they did to help the working classes, poor, disabled etc. I guess it's picking the least bad of the two but there is no comparing the two in honesty. The Tories talked up labour putting the country into record debt but they at least built hospitals, schools, doctors surgeries etc. The Tories have managed to treble the national debt but under the name of austerity ! I know which I would rather have
Same here Jools. I find myself talking to my children about that vile woman. I see the products of her division at every turn. Red Wedge came up in conversation today and the youth in the room did not even know her name. She is winning but I/we will never give up the struggle. Labour today are full of faults and their critics are loud and listened to but I would rather have a debt that was accrued caring for all than one accrued bailing out the banksters and the Selfservative donors. Have a good day.
I love this song. I remember watching Eddy Grant on Saturday Night Live.....He was playing his guitar on this song. He took his guitar and literally played it with his ass.....laid it down on the stage and let his reverb take over, I said to myself this dude ain't for no shit...... never saw anyone do that before !!!!!

Yeah thankfully new labour rescued us from all that corruption lol!
