💚🖤❤️This song charted to #2 in the USA in 1983! It was a unifying anthem about hard times - because we were all getting laid off, when our jobs were sent overseas. It has an insatiable, danceable beat because the entire track is personally produced by Eddy Grant!!
I was 10 years old when I first heard this song in 1983. It was really great. It sounded like it was so full of life and energy. I am now 51 years old and I still feel the same way. I think that this song is definitely one that you would hear at a party or a concert. It could definitely make you want to get up and dance and join the party. The way Eddy Grant sings this song can make you feel like the night will go on forever. I think that this song can make you feel like the good times will never end. I was in the 4th grade when I first heard this song. It really got my attention. It can sound like the the good times have just begun and there is no end to the good times of the future. I still like this song after 41 years. I could never get enough of hearing this song. It really great. It is red hot!

"Electric Avenue" is a song written, recorded and produced by British singer and songwriter Eddy Grant, who released it on his 1982 album Killer on the Rampage. In the United States, with the help of the MTV video he shot for it, it was one of the biggest hits of 1983. The song refers to Electric Avenue in London, and to the 1981 Brixton riot in the Brixton district of the city. According to Grant, he first became aware of the street's existence during a stint acting at the Black Theatre of Brixton.[1] The area is now known for its high population of Caribbean immigrants. At the beginning of the 1980s, as identified by the Scarman Report, tensions over unemployment, racism and poverty exacerbated by racist policing culminated in the street events now known as the 1981 Brixton riot. Grant, horrified and enraged, wrote and composed a song in response to these events. Shortly after, Grant left the UK to live in Barbados, and his most recent batch of songs were lost during baggage transit. "Electric Avenue" was one of the songs he wrote immediately afterwards to make up for the lost material.[1] Music video Filmed in Barbados,[1] the song's music video helped it to gain popularity in the United States. In the early years of MTV, the network ran music videos almost exclusively by white artists and was criticized by famous musicians, such as David Bowie, for not having black artists on the network.[5] After "Billie Jean" aired and was successful, MTV soon scrambled to get other black artists into their rotation. Once "Electric Avenue" aired, it did not take long for the song to climb up to the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.[6] Other release information The original B-Side to this song was a non-LP track entitled "Time Warp". The 45 sold more than one million copies in the United States, earning a platinum certification. It was later re-issued with "I Don't Want to Dance" as the flip side. In 2001, Peter Black remixed "Electric Avenue" as the "Ringbang Remix", which was released on 28 May 2001.[7][8] The single featured and reached number 5 in the UK Singles Chart in June 2001,[9] as well as number 16 on the US Dance Chart.[10] Reception Grant initially released it as a single in 1983, and reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. In 1983, CBS decided to launch the single in the U.S., where it spent five weeks at No. 2 on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 charts[11] and hit No. 1 in Cash Box Magazine. (It was kept out of the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 by a combination of two songs, "Flashdance... What a Feeling" by Irene Cara and that year's song of the summer, "Every Breath You Take" by the Police.) "Electric Avenue" was a hit on two other US charts: On the soul chart it went to No. 18,[12] and on the dance charts, it peaked at No. 6.[13] It was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best R&B Song of 1983,[14] but lost to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". Grant sued former president Donald Trump and his administration over the use of the song in an ad in 2020.[15] Charts Weekly charts Original version Chart (1983) Peak position Australia (Kent Music Report)[16] 2 Austria (Ö3 Austria Top 40)[17] 6 Belgium (Ultratop 50 Flanders)[18] 3 Canada Top Singles (RPM)[19] 1 France (IFOP)[20] 37 Germany (Official German Charts)[21] 9 Ireland (IRMA)[22] 3 Netherlands (Dutch Top 40)[23] 6 Netherlands (Single Top 100)[24] 8 New Zealand (Recorded Music NZ)[25] 32 South Africa (Springbok Radio)[26] 9 Sweden (Sverigetopplistan)[27] 9 Switzerland (Schweizer Hitparade)[28] 6 UK Singles (OCC)[29] 2 US Billboard Hot 100[10] 2 US Billboard Hot Black Singles[10] 18 US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play[10] 6 US Billboard Top Rock Tracks[10] 12 US Cash Box[30] 1 Chart (2001) Peak position Austria (Ö3 Austria Top 40)[17] 56 Denmark (Tracklisten)[31] 20 Sweden (Sverigetopplistan)[27] 26 Ringbang Remix Chart (2001) Peak position Belgium (Ultratip Flanders)[32] 4 Ca (Wikipedi 1415)
I was 22 when I snuck out of my parents' house to hang out with my friends in the dead of night. We went to a Denny's, and this song was playing when a group of high as balls wizards came in. They menaced the entire place, casting every spell they knew, eventually setting it on fire. We booked it without paying for our meal. So anyway I was grounded for two weeks.
Was working today when this came in the radio ha talk about getting a gas to work.Nothing better than a classic from the old days popping in the radio.
It was my freshman year, and the Milwaukee Brewers were going for the Championship. It was also a sunny afternoon in which I had the opportunity to sit on a ledge outside my high school and listen to ELECTRIC AVENUE.
I remember being about 5-6years old and my mum had Eddie Grant on Record and I would play this for my little brother and sister. I remember my little brother pretending to be riding a motorcycle to this song lol.
I was a young man when this song popped up. I survived "The playground in the dark side of town. " many, many of my friends did not. That line gives me chills to this day. Terrifying. RIP brothers who didn't make out of the playground.
When my kids were very small, we finally moved into our first REAL house - it was on KANSAS AVENUE, but we used to jump around to this song and sing, "We're gonna rock down to Kansas Avenue, and then we'll take it high-ahhh!!" Hard to believe that was 40 years ago!!

One of those songs that people have never seemed to listened to the lyrics too besides the chorus. A great song with a great political message.
Just Heard a few seconds of intro on a Netflix movie, I knew exactly who it was. Hadn’t heard this track for 30 years. 😊takes me back.
I was a young man when this song popped up. I survived "The playground in the dark side of town. " many, many of my friends did not. That line gives me chills to this day. Terrifying. RIP brothers who didn't make out of the playground.
The wizards at Arbys showd me this
THANK YOU PINEAPPLE EXPRESS ☺️ for bringing me here years ago! ..and yes I'm back in 2024, and 2025, etc etc
made me want to cast a dubious little spell
Thank you for providing +75% electro spell boost
wizards at arbys brought me back here
This is a really good song. The refrain is the best part.
I roller skated to this song.
I sure hope wizards don't visit me during my Arby's nightshift tonight.
My favorite Christmas song
My best friend John loved this song 🎵 RIP 🙏 MY FRIEND ❤. I MISS YOU DEARLY 😢. KEEP ROCKIN UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN 🎉🎉🎉.
why do i have the feeling that some magic doing entities are invading a common fastfood chain at this very moment doing shenanigans?
Wizards brought me here
Such a jam!
Hands down, DOPEST DOPE IVE EVER SMOKED
