Agreed, it smells absolutely nothing like Sandlewood, despite so many reviews suggesting it is Sandlewood heavy.

I love this scent. It reminds me of a flower and fruit in the Philippines. Reminds me of my childhood 🥰😍🌈 love it

There's something sickly about Santal 33. The dry powdery sweetness reminds me of books in an old library getting damp and slowly disintegrating.

Aidan Shaw I get the pickle juice also . I also get a little bit of that in masion Margiela Jazz club in the opening .Santal 33 is wired . I hate the smell of it but get compliments while wearing it . I guess it smells better in your scent bubble to people than directly on skin ...
This is exactly the vibe i got from it.. old.library ... wet.. mud... and old school men colognes traces mix together...

I have a big bottle of Amyris “sandalwood” ( obviously not sandalwood but a common replacement) and it smells like dill. On my skin it’s basically a pickle note. I’m convinced that amyris is in Santal 33 and that’s what is coming off as sour. Also thank heavens someone is finally illuminating the fact that half of lelabo fragrances smell nothin like their names ! Misleading.
ANANDA WILSON, Gather Perfume Even on me Santal 33 smells like pickles. I thought I’ll keep the perfume until spring/summer and will try than. (Bought it blindly recently). If it still pickles I’ll just sell it.
Slightly cheaper alternative but not by much, is Jo Malone's English Oak & Hazelnut. It doesn't last as long but it doesn't have that "sickly sweet powderiness" thing that some people mention in Santal 33. It's lighter and airier.
The people at, ‘Le Labo’ are the same people who name a black cat, ‘Snowball’! 😂

Every time I wear this people ask me if someone was smoking in the building🤣.It’s not my favorite, it’s ok. I prefer a creamy sandalwood with some development.
Nice review, mate! I agree that most sandalwoods that we’re accustomed to are creamy, buttery sandalwoods, but not all are. I have a few essential oil sandalwoods that are sharp, choppy, tart, and semi sweet.

ouch110 Fragrance Reviews I know, I’m so sad. I bought Perles Da Lalique because I’d seen some reviews saying it smelled like Elle. It has some elements like Elle but is in no way even near a substitute or dupe. 😥
I was very late to the game on this one......!!!....I love it now.....however...I am enjoying the clones of this..even more!!!! I love Zara Scent #1,,,,,H &M Santalum, and Montagne Parfums Eau Santal.
Always great to learn of alternatives to something you enjoy but may want a slight variant, weather that's price / slight change in notes etc.
Le labo aren't really for me , most of them underwhelmed me but I haven't tried everything from them. Oud 27 is all me though 👌
Flashback in NY is a kaarazy fragrance. Definitely more leathery on my skin, but also somewhat cool, dusty and grungy. Actually quite like Zara's Scent #1 too - probably the most "challenging" of the 4 in the line.

One of the many reasons I love living in a rural town...I'm generally the best smelling person and fragrances are definitley not overdone. LOL I mean that in a non-cocky way. But really, most people stick with their Irish Spring soap or B&BW sprays.

Do u know how awesome u are for not just reviewing Santal 33 but giving us 7 dupes as well. I’m not a big fan of this perfume, it doesn’t smell like sandalwood. I love sandalwood. This one smells woody and dry. I think it’s cedarwood. And yes it is a bit spicy. I don’t get the hype for this one.. I have a 10ml decant of it and it’s more than enough. If I ever run out this perfume, I’ll just buy another decant. I stupidly bought a large bottle of Le Labo Labdanum 18 and I will never use it up. So I have been sharing decants. Le Labo perfumes don’t last long so unless you’re gonna use it every day, don’t buy the big bottle. Even if u love it. Trust me the clear glass bottle just ensures that your perfume won’t last. That’s why I love perfumes in opaque bottles. They last much longer. I have a bottle of Angel from the 90’s and oh my goodness it’s strong. Stronger than the bottle I bought last year. I bought the old one in the late 90’s and we moved a few times and I lost it somewhere packed in a box. Then when we bought our dream house and moved. I went thru everything and found it. I found about 10 other very old perfumes. One is an 80’s perfume called poison. I can’t remember what else I have . One is a small bottle that is just one big nose. I don’t know the name. It smells pretty . DONT remember who gave me that one. Oh and I have a perfume called Fable, named after the hope Diamond. Back then a 15ml was $150. I still have an almost full perfume.

I have been using Santal 33 for a while now but the price is such a let down. The closest one I got which smells about 95% or more smella like Santal 33 is from a Filipino perfume company called Scentsmith Cedar Leather. You should try it.

I tried Book and also Boise de Balincourt (another less expensive dupe) and they both went wonky on me, initially smelling like a dill pickle and drying down more like hamster cage shavings on my skin. I adore the original Santal 33, but if someone wants something along the lines...still staying with that sexy, leathery, woody, violet leaf vibe, but actually a little brighter, and more airy, then I highly recommend Sandara by Phlur. It's incredible and very long lasting.
Interesting you mention dill pickle, anything with sandalwood turns to pickles on me, I thought it was just me! I have a few sandalwood based fragrances I adore out of the bottle, but as soon as it's on me, bam! Pickles is all i can smell 😑😂

I love actual sandalwood, and wear Tam Dao, Egoiste, and Geo F Trumper all the time, but I hate hate HATE the way this smells. To me it just smells like cabbage and cucumbers that are starting to rot with a hint of garbage juice thrown in. The Cremo dupe of this Palo Santo smells great, but every time I’ve tried to wear this or just smell it on skin I’ve had to scrub it off. I don’t get the draw.
What would you consider a “country person” scent - for a guy...

There are only 2 fragrances that make me want to vomit - Santal 33 and Slumberhouse Baque! They have a similar thing about them.
Isn’t that funny, I sprayed some on and I keep coming back to smell it. I just don’t know what it is about this one but I really like it. There are a few others from Le Labo that I also love but don’t know why.

I just checked one by one all mentioned alternative, they are the more or less the same price as of chantal33 there is nothing cheap i suppose.
Santal 33 is £184 for 100ml. :) None of the others cost that much. The Zara one costs 11 euros.

Awesome vid dear. 2 to add to the mix, Tam Dao by Diptyque is a great alternative, pretty similar, aaaand Santal by Fragonard. Ironically I haven’t smelled Santal 33 in 8 years and should probably re-visit it.
Sandalwood is one of my favorite notes. Some of my all time favs are Sacred Wood and Samsara....I blind bought this and boy was I disappointed! What the actual eff 😂

To me-- it smells like a brand new pair of leather boots, the kind that has some plastic in the soles, you take it out of the box see a bunch of sugar ants and smash them w the brand new boot. Now the lingering smell of dead ants a long w everything else is what santal 33 smells like. I like it. 😁😆
