How Inside Edition Went Undercover to Expose Child Labor at Commune

- What does it take to go undercover to expose injustices? Inside Edition producer Zara Lockshin was assigned to investigate claims of child labor at businesses owned by a religious sect called the Twelve Tribes. She discovered children as young as 6 years old working on the group's farm in Cambridge, N.Y. Lockshin believes her "friendly, open-minded" personality and her age made her a good fit for the assignment. InsideEdition.com's Leigh Scheps ( / leightvreporter ) has more.

It did not look like child labor. It is no different than a kid who has chores in a home in the city. This is how they learn to do things, learn about being responsible for things and so forth.
Evelyn Witt So I can expose my future kid to chemicals and I can beat him/her to teach her?
/him
I did not say that. if you read my post right. Kids need to do chores around the home to learn how to do the things they will have to do for themselves as adults. Having chores does not hurt them one bit. My parents both had chores as much as the kids in this video or more growing up and they turned out fine. My sister and I also had chores growing up at times. My own kids had chores growing up. Just because people have their kids working in a garden or orchard, does not mean that is child labor. Back in the day, kids learned their trades going to work for a master in that trade. Girls even 30 some years back were still learning how to keep a home under the watchful eyes of mothers or grandmothers doing chores while boys learned things too and including chores inside the home. If there is pestiside used in places, no the kids do not need to be around it. And you do not have to beat the kids either to teach them. I did not say that.
Also, this was basically one side of the story, we do not know the other side.

Jairo Herrera my life
She reminds me of that one girl on summer camp that never wants to get dirty or go outside.
Oml, City People... Its called liven' on a farm and a sweat or two ain't going to hurt ya
what kind of farm did you lived on where your parents made you work a full work week of hours with no breaks and also made you work in a factory and beat you in the basement of the factory with a bamboo rod if you didn't work or made a mistake?
this isn't normal farm work for a kid and this kind of work can hurt a kid really badly.
ikr
Multi Type Dude, did you even watch the video?
You've watched the video not listened to the case
I encourage you to look into this cult. They actually abuse kids. Even kidnapped some. This is not a city ppl thing if that’s what you call the Welfare of children.
I don’t see any child labor here...is it now child labor if your mom asks you to unload the dishwasher? Just maybe volunteer work.
Cyclone yeah but not getting beat bye bamboo
Did they get asked? Do they get breaks? Do they get beat? Do they get food?
Cyclone .....You're missing the point! Children should definitely help out with household chores and even in the garden or on a farm, but these kids were forced to do everything all by themselves, and were beat if they didn't.
Really isn't that serious
Tandy Bennett it’s illegal
Tandy Bennett they hit the kids on the butt with bamboo sticks if they don't listen (not wanting to do work)
Child labor is illegal though.
it is good for the kids
Fr only white people
Just bc a child is doing farm work doesn’t mean it’s child labor there just helping on a Farm
But the problem was that they were doing factory work? You can see it as 2.23 in the video. I don’t think that is doing chores.
I had to haul wood around my house at age 15, or we wouldn't have heat at night. It wasn't "child labor" it was the ordinary chores kids had growing up. If we didn't do it, who would?
Chris Thomson i would have been. Out right not doing what is expected of you did not fly when I was a kid. Also you really had to do something good to get an atta boy.
John Doe yeah but these guys were beaten with bamboo. The worst you got was the chancla.(it may suck getting hit with one but that doesn’t mean its as bad as what they got)
Iris Collins ikr!! this video is total bs
A lot of kids I know work at their family farms
Damon Wibalda report them to crime stoppers lol
Do They get beat for not doing it?
StoneHorse ummm yes they should. The world does not try to reason with you. Teach them early.
John Doe I guess when they grow up they will think beating their kids with bamboo at a young age is alright welp they will just get their kids taken away welp I never knew that beating kids with bamboo sticks and working for like 80 hr a week and near chemicals giess i will do that to my kids thx for the edvice
John Doe What is wrong with you? Parents should want what's best for their children and help them grow instead of just tear them down no matter how harsh the rest of the world can be. It is so unreasonable to beat a child who isn't fully physically or mentally developed. I hope you don't have any children if you have that mindset.
*WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF IDEAS*
This isn't child labor, I help my parents all the time our garden.
Wtf working on farm isn't child labour.
Knee Sock But getting beaten and working adult hours is.
alphacomando227 do you have any proof that they were beaten and worked harder than adults?
The kids said they do all the work
Knee Sock They were also working on the factory
Death Spirit and i said im jesus, does that mean its true?
I started working with my dad when I was 14. He works in construction. He never forces me to go to work but I wanted to anyway. He just wanted me to know what it felt like to work hard and earn what you have instead of being spoiled.

StoneHorse. Some don't do that but i feel sorry for people ho go thru that
Dude is it red ?????
This highlights how far from the farm we’ve come
This is completely taken out of context.....
Bruh i grew up in a poor family and worked in the fields. That what you called child labor helped me be a stronger person. My mom never wanted me in the field but i wanted to because of being poor. Now that I am an adult I can work anywhere whether in fields or in businesses. I a m now in college and have won my money through working in the fields.
O-oh my goodness! Children doing work!?
THIS MUUST BE ON THE NEWS!
*Lmao stop*
I used to work with my parents and help them out too I don't see how's that illegal
lawma fanai you got beaten and got exposed to chemicals?
They were beaten with bamboo sticks if they didnt work all day 7 days a week
@@peytonharrell1740 How terrifying. I used to get my ass beaten everyday with wooden hangers and a paddle. *Discipline is so terrifyinh*
@@haik8234 on 3 year old yes
@@haik8234 but it was most likely the parents that don't teach kids discipline
2018-2019 gona be like
Mom:son can u pick up my pen
Son:ok mom
2 mins later
Police:yes hello we got a call that u were doing child labor
Its so obvious that she's trying to make it seem so much more dramatic than it actually was.
