Perfect timing for this video! My new wheelchair is scheduled for delivery tomorrow so I'm doing all the research I can on wheelchair accessories and power assists. Watching your videos makes me feel hopeful that I can reenter the community with independence again!
I don't have a Batec but have a Triride and it's been life changing. It's given me complete independence and just to be able to get out on various terrain is fantastic. I think mine is lighter than yours as I can lift it in the car but it's not light! However your Batec looks way simpler to fit. Just a tip to try.... When going up a steep hill go up backwards. It means the batec/Triride is pushing rather than pulling so has more weight over it. Worth a try as it works for me. X
Thanks for the new video, Gem, great you got the Batec! And btw, you are totally responsible I spent 109 Euros on the LapStacker! Like so many times before, when you gave me ideas for helpful litte thingys! Hugs from Germany. Dani
I think the difference is the terrain you could drive on. Power assist wheels don't set your casters upwards, so uneven terrain is still difficult. I have AlberEmotion. It's tricky/ not possible besides normal streets/pavements to drive. And you can't do wheelies with it (what I hate 😬). It will better work with a frontwheel add on. Gem mentioned the wight.... That's a point, too. They wheels are really heavy.
Thanks for this Gem. I've been looking at the Batec as well as the Triride. I've ordered a new wheelchair with Cyclone Mobility. A lovely guy called Billy came out and showed me the Batec but did say that the mini was more for pavements than off road and as I have an energetic Collie I need something that I can take elsewhere. You've shown me that the Batec Mini CAN indeed manage the kinds of terrains I want to go on. So thanks again for this video. ❤ If anyone else in the comments has ever used the Triride I'd love to get their views of the Triride too, just so I have a better idea before I go committing.
I've just tried one of these out at my workplace to see how it did. Given that I can do a lot of miles airside in my manual chair, I'm looking for anything that makes my shifts that bit easier rushing from one end of a terminal to the other. Just waiting on the Access to work application being looked at and approved or a lottery win to get the mini 2 and wheelchair that I chose.
It's amazing. Battery technology has progressed enormously over the years. So much so that I now have a battery-operated lawn mower and a strimmer (which has wheels! ) How great is that? Which means I can be independent 😀 and the great thing is that it doesn't cost any more than a "normal" mower and strimmer.
These machines are fantastic! I have a tri-ride T-rocks 20x4 it's a little more capable, and faster and with the big fat tyre it smooths out the bumps. I can get 40/60 miles real world range travelling at good speeds in hilly Cornwall and I can still get on the bus and train.
I love it! Im in the process of getting my 2nd chair, a Ki Mobility Rogue 2. Ive been looking into the smart drive but i like this even better. Oh, love the boxer, shes totally adorable!
Gem. To avoid the issue of your wrist aching put a thin rubber band between the throttle and its mount it helps to reduce the tendency of the throttle to pull itself closed, but be aware you can find yourself not slowing down if you let go
Hey lovely. Thanks for joining. No I don’t use the batec every day, I’m very much a fair weather rider too. So I use it a lot more in the summer. It’s fab though. X
Thank you for this awesome review, Gem 🙏 as for all the videos you've made so far 👍🏻👏👍🏻. As a relatively new wheelchair user you gave me so much confidence for this new situation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart 💖. And many thanks to Shawn for showing the Batec runs also with someone more to my weight 👍🏻😉. One question came to my mind seeing you driving "off road". Do you need extra tires and rims to go with the Batec? Something extra stabilised? Lots of love from Germany 🤗💖.
im so glad it helps you , and i just have the regular wheels and rims i use manually but you could use different /fatter wheels if you wanted to go on more dirt tracks it would probably make it a smoother ride , hope that answers your question🙂
Granted I'm not in need of a Batec myself but one concern I've heard from people on whether to get a powered mobility aid like it is one of access. An example which came to mind was a park near where I went to university which at one time banned people on mobility scooters since all "powered vehicles" were prohibited as it was a "pedestrian only park". While they did overturn this following a county court decision which said that an absolute prohibition on powered vehicles was in violation of the disability provision of the 2010 Equality Act, it did cause some people I knew to wonder if they'd be banned from areas which were designated as "pedestrian only" by using something like a powered wheel chair.
That's insane - I understand that occasionally people in mobility scooters can be a bit of a menace - but you can't just ban everyone 😂 I'm glad it got overturned.
@@kimwilding8444 Thanks, while it was a good few years ago (and I arrived shortly after the park was reopened to mobility scooters) it still concerns me whether someone would take such a step. At least with that decision being overturned it will be harder to make such rules in the future.
thanks for the question ,i really think it depends on your own personal situation , but i love the fact that i can easily detach and attach as i need i like being able to manually use my chair in certain situations.🙂
Girlfriend, 🙏 👩🦼➡️💇♀️ Love ❤️ your videos, you supercharge my batteries for the day! Plus the fantastic information you provide 🎉. I want 2 Batecs I’ll check out your other Batec videos! 😄🙏🙏👩🦼➡️💡🌎⭐️
Gem that looks great how much do they cost? I’m lucky as I still have power in my upper body but my legs are getting slowly worse! How much do they retail at as I’m looking ahead to the future 👨🏻🦽❤️

Hey Dani. Oh cool. You will love the lapstacker. It’s so handy
Thank you for that, life changing item.
I’m getting a Batec rapid on June 5th, so excited
Would love to know how this compares to power assisted push wheels
Oooo maybe I’ll have to try some. The thing that puts me off power wheels, is the weight it adds to the chair. X

im so glad it helps ,thx for sharing🙂
@@Wheelsnoheels It ok it is at school since there 3 of us in wheelchair's
Love it 😀, a great video ❤ showing people like us you can be independent. (No these things aren't cheap but where there's a will there's a way!)
Glad you enjoyed it. I got my first batec second hand, and my new one was funded though ATW 🥂

definitely do your research,🙂

im afraid not ,but I'm sure similar adaptations are 🙂

Lovely Gem! Do you use this BT everyday? Has it helped or caused more pain? I’ve joined your broadcast channel over on Instagram x

I wish they distributed in the United States! It is a sad situation that they don't😔
What is the weight with battery

@@Wheelsnoheels I am to. Hopefully other parks won't be closed off due to such over-reaching restrictions. Parks are fun.

Have you managed to insure this, I am unable to at the moment due to the top speed, will only insure up to 8mph.
i did ,i insured it on my home insurance.
BRB, just off to win the lottery… 🙃
🙈🙈
Is that 110kg Adding the person weight too?
yes that's the total weight
🎉❤, Stig, but where's Bindi's skateboard?
😂
Is the Batec Sold
in U.S.A. ?
Sadly not. 😞 I think the equivalent is the tri ride.
@@Wheelsnoheels thank You for the information .
Love, ❤️the new videos.

Can you take these on a plane?
Yes. You just need to check with the airline what battery size is compatable with them
but can u take it on a plane?
Yes
Make sure your doggo has a seat belt. I couldn't see one in the video. It is the law too. 🙂
