Think this will do great business. For starters there's not many eating options for 50 miles in either direction. It took someone with energy and initiative to get it going. Great job!

Perhaps as part of your town you can have a permaculture farmer group/family. They can produce the eggs, vegetables, dairy for your cafe. There are many ways to make the desert bloom.

The sewer lines probably dried up due to years of non use and not enough water to flush everything out. After flushing it out Maybe put some enzymes down each toilet To help dissolve whatever might be left over.

I'm not comfortable with the attitude of Mayor John. How about focus more on service you can offer the people at a fair price. Emergency gas $10.... that is just too much. $125 for a room! There's nothing there..... it's a pass through destination. I hope you are successful..i think an attitude adjustment would help. It's not all about the money.

He said $5 a gallon for gas when he was dipping the gas tank. Then said $50 for 5 gallons on the self serve locker. I want to see what he says when a motorcycle pulls up and only needs 2 gallons. He doesnt want to sell just a couple of gallons. If a motorcycle group comes out and eats there and needs gas they need to loosen up on customers.

I wonder if there is any connected land for sale for future exspansion. I think a full retail set up is the beter option, pay at the pump systems are not that terrible and it will draw more people in. Yourring turning the into a nicer place. Gravel on the roads will freshen up the look of the place and make the motel look more inviting.

I always thought Cornudas was a “cute” place and wondered why no one ever developed the town. So glad to see this and you have Great Vision! If I lived in El Paso, I would definitely relocate to your town. But, I live in the SE Desert of New Mexico. Hopefully the cafe will be open in July when we come through for our medical appointments in El Paso. Cannot wait to see the transformation.

I live about an hour and a half east of this place. We have a little more land, but to my husband's disappointment, we're not a town of our own. We've had a few companies ask if we're interested in having man camps. We allow friends and family to camp and hunt, but we are not sure we want the chore of running another business. Those saying he's charging too much I respectfully disagree. If you drive through this area unprepared, you need to expect to pay more. All tourist destinations charge more. We visited Terlingua just for fun. We paid way more for our lunch than it was worth, but the experience made it worth it. When the diner is open, we'll visit here, too.

You are going to scare people away. You need to lower your prices just a bit and start attracting a base for repeat customers so the word gets out and you finish stuff.

Very cheap way to automate things like that and quick to fix if something goes wrong or gets damaged.

Plus you just need to find a gas station closing down and buy a pump for cheap that way. Or buy an old one abd rebuild it. Have another youtuber rebuilt it for content for their channel. There are many tech youtubers who could figure our an inexpensive way to tachle this. I can think of a bunch of ways but i dont know the tech you have ready available. The settlelite phone shouldnt be to expensive you have a lot of roofs to put solar panels up so having a few tesla walls would off set the sattlelite phone. I dont man judt brain storming. You should really consider a food challenge eat this big meal and its free, win a tshirt and get your pic on the wall. Maybe invite one of these mukbang huge eater youtube folks to consult, do the challenge and advertise on their channel(s). People drive for hours and states to do these kinds of challenges for fun.

if you have ever been out there you would understand why people need emergency gas out there. Its emergency, no one is buying it unless they really need it.. to either get to Carlsbad or El Paso depending on what way they are going... its a long drive with mountain passes and zero spots with gas, heck zero spots with anything at all. This is, was, will be the only place to get anything.. He is actually using being in the center of a well traveled, but very rural location as a good business model. Any smart business person would see the traffic on that road with no fuel services for 100 miles in either direction and come to the same conclusion. People pay elevated rates for emergency services.. like medical emergency services, or towing services. I ate there when May owned it, the food there wasn't any more expensive than any other sit down place.. lots of locals ate there as well.

@@maxjaeger40 I didn't pay that much for my lunch Cornudas Burger and fries and a soda for me, my wifes meal and my sons meal as well and added a nice tip and it was under $50 that was years ago before Bidenflation. If you need gas or have to get stranded in the west Texas desert instead of your destination, you pay $10 for gas. If you were dumb enough to not gas up before leaving on a 200 mile drive with 2 mountain passes to go through... you get the stupid tax. Again its a emergency service, emergency services cost more and you deter people from using it, by charging a premium for it.

Just going to a HipCamp is $125 a night.
If I was crossing that area, I’d check it out.

Where are the women in your town? You definitely need some woman's influence in your town. Especially if you want anyone to actually eat at your cafe. Very admirable and a lot of work to build a town from scratch though. I know you're in the beginning stages but no women? Kind of strange. Feels like somethings missing. Do you have any dogs? Some dogs and a wife would be a great addition and a different perspective as well- like a new set of eyes... Maybe eventually you'll hire some women. Your donkeys are adorable!!!Congratulations and good luck Jon.

you gonna get bad rep as a too expensive tourist trap. you will get a few new commers, never repeat. stopped many times there as a kid. great food. always took visitors to caverns. paint the base boards in that room, lol wish you luck
