BREAKING NEWS - Tarantino Scrapping The Movie Critic
Quentin Tarantino is revisiting the concept for his tenth and final movie. Initially set to begin production of The Movie Critic this year, the director has decided to step back from the project, according to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter.
The Movie Critic, which Tarantino had been refining for some time, was to be set in 1977 California. It started as a concept inspired by a cynical movie critic whom Tarantino admired during his youth. However, the project evolved to potentially star Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, the stuntman character he played in Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which earned Pitt an Oscar. Whether this film was intended as a prequel or a sequel set in the '70s was not clear. Recently, Tarantino has had a change of heart and has abandoned the project altogether.

I thought Quinton Tarantino said originally that he would only make 8 films with the Hateful Eight being the finale. Tarantino has a reputation of changing his mind until he has the ideal screenplay that appeases him as his biggest critic

The Movie Critic was underwhelming sounding anyway.

I wonder what made him change course. A.I. or Israel?

He's very likely changed his mind to make a Leni Riefenstahl tribute movie to his new favorite people in the world, the IDF.

I read that no studio pick it up because it was a large scale script and would cost a lot to produce so i think that was a factor in why he scraped it

Could be. I think he probably could get the money from Apple but he wouldn't be happy to do that.

Here's an odd question: what does cost alot mean these days in Hollywood? Can anybody put a number on that? Also, frankly, if it was a big, epic movie from Tarantino, I would have thought a lot of executives would have been wildly intrigued by that. I think I would be.

@@orpheus9037 "a lot" is relative to how much a studio thinks the film can sell. $150M isn't a lot in the context of a big blockbuster like Spiderman, but it's a ton for a movie about a movie critic... Even if it's a great movie, most people wouldn't line up to go see it

To be honest, I’m kinda relieved to hear that… his last movie was my least favourite movie of him and the premise of this one kinda reminds me of it. Also Brad Pitt is not my favourite pick for the main role… I want Tarantino’s last film to be one of his best!

This is part of the reason why I've never liked the fact that he's been so specific about hitting 10 films exactly. It put's too much undue focus on that 10th one having to be great

I'm more than fine with this. Tarantino hasn't made anything worth watching since the first Kill Bill, and his last one, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,
was utter trash the way it disrespected what happened to Sharon Tate and Co, just so that Tarantino could end his film with a bit of ultra violence.
Pulp Fiction is great. The first Kill Bill is fun. The rest of his stuff is sub-par and too homage-heavy to be considered original works.
He should retire. Two good films ain't bad.
