      Forgot to mention I opted for the additional ORA machine, which let the surgeon see more clearly what I needed after she removed the old cloudy lens (as I understand it). The extra charge was worth it. A week after each surgery and each eye had slightly improved over 20/20. Your mileage may vary.

    I had cataract surgery a few years ago at the age of 38. I was very near-sighted beforehand with astigmatism (-8.5D +2). I paid for the EDOF + Toric premium lens options, which made me glasses free from about arms length out. One other surprise is it magnified everything, e.g. when I had one eye done, a 40" TV in the uncorrected eye looked like a 50" TV in the operated eye until I had the second eye operated on. The main colour that became much stronger is blue-violet, such as cooker gas flames are much brighter blue-violet and the once dull UV lights (e.g. bank note checkers) now appear intense violet.

    Looking back over the last few years as a cataract has worsened in one eye, I can say my world has diminished since I've given up night driving, and even daylight driving in unfamiliar places. My spouse fills in the driving gaps, but I look forward to being independent once again, it can't help but be good for the brain and mood.

      Lol. I have cataract surgery next month. I am very myopic (roughly 20/400 in my weaker eye), so I can see every wrinkle, pore and such already, probably better than those patients can. I am choosing undercorrection/near vision monofocal lenses, but I know I will lose what I call my "microscope" vision. : ( But I expect it will be a good trade-off for regaining my night vision. : )

    How long can people expect to live trouble free with these artificial lenses in their eyes? I would need to have it done at an early age for lowering IOP. But my eye doc finds me too young (50). Meanwhile, I see people getting their lenses snatched out at a much earlier age. Do they perhaps not realize that it can only done once? I would love to see a video addressing clear lense extraction and life expectancy of the IOL.

    • @ckp2ator389
      @ckp2ator389 12 дней назад

      I would be concerned too about the longevity of the material. I'm 70 and my lens needs to last 20 years at most. But if I were doing it at 50, it'd have to last 40 years. I think they are doing IOL exchanges but it is risky and the skill level of the surgeon probably needs to be top-notch. My doctor has a follow-up appointment a week after the surgery, one of the other doctors I saw said they can exchange a lens at that point presumably before the lens has settled in. But then again how do you know if the lens is wrong for you so early on since they always tell you certain side effects will go away with time.

    I had mine done when I was 60 on both eyes. But before that, I had a torn retina torn at the bottom of my retina, and because of that I have always had floaters, but after my cataract surgery on both eyes, my eyesight wasn’t really any better at all And the floaters was absolutely worse than ever and my eyesight acts like I am losing it worse in one eye. And it actually feels like there’s something in my eye all the time irritation. I was told that I have no tear ducts in my eyes are really dry so I have drops that I put in my eyes, want to eye doctor told me that there is nothing to do about the floaters and another eye doctor told me that there is that they can do surgery to remove the the old blood that is behind there that is causing the floaters. So I really don’t know who to believe or what to do but I don’t understand why my eyesight has never gotten any better and I still have to wear glasses. I am 63 of age now so it hasn’t been that long ago that I had my cataract surgery done.

      Thank you for your comment and question! Yes, sometimes we will do the second eye if you feel like the two eyes are not working together. One reason to hold off is that if you can still accomodate, meaning see distance and near, you will lose that after cataract surgery. I definitely advise you keep discussing this with your eye doctor and if they will not operate but you feel that you should do something you can seek a second opinion. Best of luck!

    Watch out for PCO, posterior capsular opacification, that sometimes occurs after cataract surgery.
    Requires laser treatment, which is fast, but I had an imbecile of an ophthalmologist who did the PCO and my night vision is destroyed. I see star patterns in headlights and streetlights and extreme glare from those types of lights at night, and another ophthalmologist doesn't want to risk doing anything to correct it.
    Not sure if anything can be done to resolve it. It's my opinion that the idiot who did the PCO laser treatment doesn't have a clue as to how to do it, she seemed to shoot the laser blindly without aiming, and then had the nerve to blame the lens.
    Not sure if a lens inserted in cataract surgery can ever be replaced, I believe that is the only solution.

  • @user-hq4jz6lc9d

    I suppose too one other advantage of cataract surgery is that - well, you should not live in fear of getting cataracts any longer!
    I had a vitrectomy a few days ago to clear up a vitreal hemorrhage from a botched repair on my retinal tear.
    Now I've been promised by the surgeon that I'm going to get a cataract in that eye. Granted, at my age I already have cataracts that are fairly mild yet, but if my vitrectomized eye finally goes south and gets a bad cataract, I can justify to my health insurance company that I need the surgery now and enjoy better vision earlier than waiting and suffering with mediocre vision, until the other eye goes bad too.
