  • By moving the public program towards the most attractive place, and integrating the heavy traffic under the cover of a public square, it is possible to regain the waterfront, and at the same time connect the city parts around Slussen. The edge towards the water is terraced to provide day light to the public and commercial spaces behind.

brilliant way to create new spaces but maintaining open spaces where people can still walk and interact .some cities just put building leaving the city without open spaces with light and air to breath..this style is also good to revive congested cities and make them a place for living again..

I think its great, I think you were right to choose something topographical on this site. I think it does relate to its context through the landscaping, the connections and condieration of the water front. To do something that is traditional would be a backward step (historicist) not relevant to contemporary function and meaning.

Irrelevant question. The current structures must be torn down before they collapse on their own (which they will do fairly soon). The only options we have now are what should be built in its place.
I propose a mix between Wingårdhs and Fosters proposals. There should atleast be a line of buildings along the shore to surround ryssgården.
Preferably built in 'old style'. The bridges should be of the same style as the other old bridges connecting Gamla Stan to the rest of the city.

...as if your nose and ear looks the same - people will connect the entire design by routes and paths - just like you nerves in your body! You're envious - just by your question, is a proof!

Just saying, this is just a preview of the real design, there was a team of architects designing this, and a few animators.

The historical Stockholm will totally disappear with this solution. The view will be cut off, Stadsmuséet will be completely hidden and there will be more buildings, although we need the contrary: fewer buildings to have light, space and view. I really hope that Slussen won't be destroyed by this!!

  • @Scurck

    And the results are in.
The winner is just like what I said, Fosters buidings and details by Wingårdhs.

  • @Scurck

@TheSchlyter By "very modern" do you mean KF-huset that was built in 1912?
The whole world is not the centerpiece of a capital city and right next door to said city's old core.
This whole argument is stupid, this proposal lost to Fosters a whole year ago.
-> Which after some fine tuning now basically is exactly as I said it should be.
    =D

    * No architectural connection whatsoever to the surrounding area.
    * To move Kattarinahissen is a big no no.
    * Big flat areas that all will be totally open to freezing winds during winter.
One can ask if this is even a serious proposal...
