The guardian most likely got corrupted because when the egg guardian went through the portal, we saw malice going through the portal so it could have been that.

So what I’m assuming is there are possibly two timelines plus a time loop theory
Egg timeline: egg sees the calamity, goes back in time to prevent the ruin from ever happening
Normal timeline: Egg never goes back/even exists (?). Calamity occurs and we get the BOTW story
Loop theory: egg goes back to prevent the calamity over and over again, changing each event and trying to stop Ganon from Gaining control, but failing each time, thus BOTW occurs and the egg has to go back until they figure out how to stop Calamity from happening/warning the main cast about the events. We are unsure who created the egg though.

I have a similar theory for skyward sword.
It's probably more so, it starts with one timeline where egg is found, and then Zelda uses her power for the first time, egg wakes up and goes back, causing a new timeline to split off. So theres a Botw timeline and Age of Calamity timeline.

In the opening cut scene the egg travels back in time and starts a new timeline that is this game. What happens to the original timeline(the one where we see Zelda protecting link from the guardians) after the egg travels results in botw

After spending some time with it, I have come to appreciate Zelda. Her regular strings can break enemy gauges even when the slate is recharging, so she's very oddly a "boss killer", and her weak weak strong chain can clear outposts faster than Link and Impa without talismans. I upgraded mine so her weapon has attack speed plus and normal attack damage up and she sweeps.
I didnt play as her much until she got her powers in the story. Then she's just OP
The time travel isnt even bad in this though: 2 timeslines:
T1 - BotW - events as we know them. After the castle is finally taken, a guardian wakes up EGG and egg records whats happening before zappin back.
T2 - HWAoC - that egg enters a new timeline by altering past events. It tells them what will happen should they fail, and sets them on a pth to better fight the Calamity.
I think that there are two separate timelines:
1. one where the egg never returned and so the events would be the same as in botw
2. and the one where the egg did return, so the events are not as we know in botw, thus changing everything and being a complete "blank" to what there will be in the future.

No offense, but I really don't get how Crow find the time travel confusing. The Egg goes back in time, warns everybody about the Calamity, brings Malice with it to jumpstart the Calamity, everybody fails, proceed with the time loop, cue the events of Breath of the Wild. It's simple

The egg is constantly time traveling back in time and no matter how many times it time travels it will always fail to stop the calamity and still it keeps time traveling over and over again. The egg is in purgatory

I'm not too sure the egg going back in time will actually change anything not drastically anyway. Who knows but its genius how they not only defended and established botw in the timeline with contradictory items. Just as they are doing again here with Egg 🥚, they're trying to converge and progress the timeline into one realm again...maybe idk.

There are two timelines one where this happened and breath of the wild happened at the beginning the egg was in its timeline and went to a new one of the past and the one where he is original from kept going to the breath of the wild and this happens totally different. Breath of the wild was the Leader of the bunch you know it’s name, it the main timeline that makes up the future then changing the past made the ones timeline different from the main and I have reason to believe that will be breath of the wild 2.

Explanation:
The egg was awoken by Zelda using her powers, and assumed the mission of saving everyone. The only way to do that was by going back in time, but (if you look closely) malice followed him through the portal. When the guardian awoke in the second mission, you can actually see the malice fly into it. This could mean that the egg is the reason for the calamity starting in the first place. Eventually the egg would die, Zeldas powers would activate and save link, and the loop would be complete.
yes but in the original botw zeldas powers is what woke the egg up in the first place. I am officially confused

It’s a loop, the egg always went back in time and caused the calamity.

So this is how I think the time travel thing works. There are two BOTW timelines, one where the egg doesn't activate (the timeline we play on) and the timeline where the egg does activate. (Obv we are playing on the one where it does on the prequel. I think what happened is it split into two timelines when the egg activated, and for some reason, it activates in that one timeline. (Im using timelines as in Alternate Timelines). This is why we might have a different outcome.

41:20 I don’t see the problem. It’s a device that can scan for nearby biometric signals, halt things in place but add momentum, freeze water, create bombs and magnetise ANY metal. It scanning the egg and being able to tell thanks to its software it came from a year or so in the future isn’t much of a stretch. The egg’s internal timer would have told the Slate that it’s from the future.
42:20 think of it like DBZ Trunks. The egg came from a year or so in the future, AS the Calamity happens and Link falls. It warns everyone that the Calamity comes to pass and how making an alternate timeline. The original timeline, or the Destruction timeline, is left completely alone. Same as how Trunks comes back to the past and changes it, but his timeline stays the same no matter what he changed in the past. The egg going back in time is exactly like that. There’s just a timeline divergence. There’s no closed loop because the Egg doesn’t effect BOTW. It always happens

Time travel like this is pretty easy to understand once you stop thinking about it as the egg going back within it's own timeline but rather the egg going into the past of another universe since other wise it has to be a loop and and the time traveler always went back in time and nothing actually changes because it all already happen and always had or they go back in time but nothing changes because they just die and fail to actually change anything because they wouldn't have actually gone back into time in the first place if they were able to change the past aka a paradox

Ok so for those who are looking into the comments and seeing the Egg / Lil Guardian / Terrako theories: 1. Hi :) and 2. Here's what I gathered about the Timeline placement. TL;DR This is another Oot-Type Scenario. No loop, just an alternate timeline.
For the long explanation, I recommend turning on TTS for this lmfao:
The cannon Breath of the Wild timeline DID have an Egg Guardian, it's just that it didn't awaken until Zelda's powers rose. What does this mean? Does this mean that NOTHING in AoC happened? Not quite. I believe that the first half of story mission, Battle of Hyrule Field, happened as normal. Now, where the timelines start to differ is that, with the absence of Eggo, the Sheikah Towers do not arise when Link obtained the Sheikah slate. In BOTW they *only* arised 100 AFTER AoC's. The rest of this mission goes about the same.
There is no Breach of Demise story mission. Why? Since we Don't have the Little Boi, there is no need to go to either the Royal Tech lab or the Hateno Lab. No Robbie and/or Purah just yet. Another thing to consider is that we normally don't see Corrupted Guardians UNTIL the Calamity awakens, while in AoC Future Harbringer Ganon takes over the ones in the Breach of Demise. So far no Towers, Malice or Research. This means we go straight to meeting the Champions. The Zora's Domain mission would go mostly the same, maybe with less electrical monsters. Little nitpick here, Dorephan doesn't have the same model as Botw aka the one with a scar. See the Zora lore for more details. Daruk's mission would be the same until they arrive at the peak of Death Mountain. In a memory of BOTW, Zelda states "Then, we’ll need some adjustments on that Divine Beast so Daruk can manage it as easily as possible. He’s figured out how to get it to move… However, it’s apparent that we still have much more to learn." SORRY FOR SUCH LONG CRAP but this implies that after getting Rudania to move away that there probably weren’t any monsters around to try attacking. I doubt that we get to see any conflict with the Rito and Revali until the master sword so that goes like so. FInally, maybe the Yiga do interfere with Urbosa's mission but I believe it'd turn out the same. I think after this they would go find the master sword, going about the same but maybe without Astor's intervention. The rest of the memories would play out the same.
Because they don't have access to Terrako's memory fragments, they don't know when the Calamity would officially strike (although ig that was already the case in both games). Quick thing, Zelda didn't have time to go to Lanayru's because of the intervention of Terrako and what data it had, delaying the arrival at Mount Lanayru and meaning we don't see the Calamity awaken from a far. Another thing I forgor 💀 about... Where's Impa in all of this? I believe Impa would've most likely went with Link and Zelda to recruit the Champions. After that, she must have stuck to Rhoam or Purah's sides until the first Two temples of Courage and Power. Fun Fact: AoC may be the time we see Impa at her youngest, while BoTW is were we see her at her oldest. Ok, done with Impa. Without Egg's appearance, King Rhoam doesn’t see the purpose of keeping the plot devic- I MEAN the Sheikah Circlet that saved his life in AoC, so he dies as usual. The Champions, although valiently, sadly die as well after fighting the Blights. First two to die are Mipha and Daruk, and the latter two are Urbosa and Revali. Yadda Yadda Yadda Maybe Impa pipes Link before sealing him inside the Shrine of Resurrection and BOTW Happens as usual. After Ganon's defeat, we get another plot devic- I MEAN Terrako bringing forth the Champions' Successors from BOTW to help the people in AoC and it all goes well. The end.

I haven’t finished this at all, only 40 minutes into the stream, but my guess is the timeline is keeping the many-worlds interpretation-style consistency that sprouted from OoT, meaning that we have 2 timelines sprouting from the convergence: 1. BOTW, where nobody knew about the impending doom; 2. Egg of Calamity, where eggo go beep boop and everyone knows about the impending doom
tl;dr:
my theory (40 min. in) is timelines branching again, 1. ganon go boom kapow and people go nani; 2. eggo go beep boop wooooo and ganon go nani

There isn't a convergence at BotW. But yes the timeline splits, a new timeline is created when the egg arrives from the future. There are two timelines, the original where BotW and the sequel takes place, and the AoC timeline. It's like this:

In one timeline,the one we know as botw, egg awakens and travels to the past, thus leaving the future to burn and give us LOZ: BOTW.
by showing up in the past and changing it's events, he creates a seperate timeline where the events of our BOTW never happened. hyrule was not destroyed, and we got to meet a cool lil egg.
if egg returns home, he ewill either be met with that same burned hyrule that he left, OR his actions REWROTE the future and his hyrule is fine. depends on how timetravel works in this universe, but my mind certainly isnt boggled

hey not sure if you will read this comment but @PointCrow VODS imagine ocarina of time, specifically where it splits off and there is a child timeline and the adult timeline, the eggs comes from what would be the 'Adult timeline' (Botw) and goes to the 'Child timeline' (Age of calamity). That means that Botw still happens when he left but this new future splits from bwfore the champions were chosen and even link gets the Master sword. Also some of the malice travelled to the past so maybe there could be another twist. Still the desing on 39:12 is more or less accurate
The concept of closed loops only exists to tell stories. There's no reason that, if time travel were a real thing, that it would be one timeline that gets changed over and over. The tree of possibilities is endless. The egg making a change in the past doesn't change the branch leading to Breath of The Wild, it moves our focus to a different branch.
When zelda use triforce to « protect everyone » the egg wake up to go in the past to protect the pepole she love so i think at the end of age of calamity we might win

So I’m not really sure where the phrase:”I’m a Simpa for Impa” first appears but my family and I were going on a road trip (I live in Germany)and we drive past a car that has Sim pa on the license plate so I immediately thought of that phrase and I can’t stop thinking about it.
