I was in her choir class my freshman, sophomore, junior year (2013-2015) she was one of the greatest teachers ever. She always wanted the best out of us. It was tough love, but she always as there for us when we were down. Thank you for everything Ms. Owens!

It was an editorial error to refer to Kay as "Miss" because she's been a widow since 1996. A lovely person from a solid family in Mississippi, I have the pleasure of having known her since we were very young. Her late husband Dale was a talented musician, also an organist and choral conductor, and a distant cousin of mine. Kay has been awarded many honors during her career, but this one on national television was extra special and well-deserved.
