Just got the Glashütte Original 39.5 mm blue dial with fully brushed bracelet. Chose it over a Rolex. On a time graph performs better than my GMT Master. Do not trust quality of current ETA or Selita movements to last more time than the warranty - based on experience.
One cannot deny it's inherent quality versus cost ratio however, the matte dial is where it let's itself down. It should have a gloss dial and less writing with a logo on the clasp and then, it would be truly stunning.
I like mine a lot too, and it’s really given me the sub feel I was looking for, but the sides of the case and band are a bit sharp, making it feel a little uncomfortable, so I don’t wear it as much as I could. Anyone else have that experience? And if so, suggestions for addressing?
I'm forced to agree that it's a very nice piece and punches above it weight class. Not quite there on it being that much of an original design. While it's not a direct homage to any one model, there's too much Rolex DNA for me to consider it as original as you make it sound. The owner says a lot of nice things (pouring on the sugar) but because of some shady past controveries, I'm only taking a sip and not driinking all his Kool-Aid. Good job on the review, thumbs up given!
I understand and I’ve reviewed many different dive watches and many share designs from rolex and omega . When it comes to this watch I only judge it on what I have in my hand a solid built and good looking timepiece and I could careless about any past controversy. Thanks for watching
The OR 1 & II are both divers. Its a shame that John at Ginault says to not hand wind this watch. Really? The clasp & bracelet plus a few other components are from China. It doesnt qualify for " made in America" only "built in America.
I think it looks like an Omega. I would wear it but don't think I would buy one if that makes sense. I don't mind a good homage but couldn't spend a grand for one.
Tell me you have no experience with Ginault without telling me you have no experience with Ginault. Hold a Ginault in one hand and a Hamilton/Tissot in the other and the Hamilton/Tissot suddenly feels cheap and boring (and they’re both nice watches). The Ginault is so far ahead in quality anyone who has experience with one will tell you.
@@dtroutmann true, it was more a suspicion that you were ignorant of Ginault’s quality, and you stated an opinion about a watch you had no personal knowledge of. Perhaps I’m wrong and you were making an educated comment after all, have you owned a Ginault?
@@Jedi391 I found out about Ginault from a friend who has one. I borrowed his for a week cuz I wanted one and it's pretty nice I just don't think it's worth $1,200 for a Selita SW-200. On par with Hamilton and Tissot and not any nicer than either my Mido or Certina. Otherwise nice watch if it was $300-$400 less.
@@ChrisMarshall1978007 Sorry I meant visually a lot more pleasing. That could be any one of many watches, the Seiko 5 55th anniversary edition cannot be mistaken for any other watch on the planet. 👍
Actually most of the parts are not sourced in Asia. The only parts that are sourced from Asia are the bracelet and gaskets/o rings. The case is machined in America and the movement is Swiss. Many “Made in Switzerland” watches actually have more Asian components than Ginault.
Nice enough watch. I like it, but its no Sub. Monta is better than this, no question. The movement is by far the weakest part of this watch. Don't expect it to last for years.
Have you had both the Ginault and Monta? I have first hand experience, the Monta is not better (but it is double the price). The SW200 is a solid movement, they’ve been listing for years…..for years.
@Jedi391 I have a Monta Triumph & a OR II. Monta is a great watch all around The OR is great too. Hard to get behind a movement that is sketchy when it comes to hand winding when it's meant to do so but maker (Ginault) says not to. I'd give the Monta the edge overall.
@@jonirwin7316 Monta uses a Sellita movement also, although I believe it’s the SW300/330, which people have also recommended to avid frequent hand winding. I think the Monta and OR/OR2 are pretty close quality wise but the Silent Service is a step up, when you’ve handled the Silent Service where do you feel it falls behind Monta, my comparisons have been the reverse.
@@jonirwin7316the Silent Service has a different/upgraded bracelet from the OR. Don’t get me wrong, the Monta is a great watch, but I don’t think it’s better than the SS, let alone at twice the price.
One of my favorite milspec dials, having them applied is next level. Machinists watch makers… that’s perfection.
I’ve heard that “looks like the cross section of a submarine” thing before, but I must be missing something; all I see is a circle.

Really? I haven’t heard that at all, my experience both SW200/ETA has been there both very durable, reliable movements.
Waiting with bated breath for ot to arrive. Great review as always!!
Nice review and beautiful watch. Can i ask if you were compensated in any way for the review?

Looks incredible.. Hard to critique this one, maybe it would be nice with crown guards? Thats all i can think of

I don’t notice any sharp edges on mine. I’m happy you enjoyed the review
I didn't notice any extra sharp edges that bother me. I have the same watch but the traveler bezel and with a date. #019 of 112
No sharp edges for me either. I find it a bit more comfortable than my BB 58. Perfect 2 dive watch combination in my opinion.
I can see shiny tool marks on the bezel notches.

Who cares about his cool aid? I just care about the actual watch, and it’s an outstanding watch.
From order to delivery, how long did it take?
5 weeks
Did you get an email from John initially? I’m still waiting on mine and it’s been 5 weeks, still no word.
Keep trying to reach out , maybe they have a lot of orders
@SilentShadow7r7 took 9 weeks for me, bit totally worth the wait.
Any word?
Need to see this versus the new Monta OceanKing
Yes I wish they would send me the monta for review
I got the Steinhart Ocean one military before this with the Sellita sw200 elabore $570
Ginault Silent Service vs The OG Planet Ocean? :)
Definitely coming up
I agree with you. I also own the watch and its beautifully made can’t take it off. My Rolex is resting in its box.😂
Damnn nice. However i have already too many dive watches. Maybe i have to sell my 2254.50??? 😕🤔
It’s an excellent watch. Nothing close to this quality under Omega.

I think it looks like an Omega. I would wear it but don't think I would buy one if that makes sense. I don't mind a good homage but couldn't spend a grand for one.
Ouch, no way it's worth more than a Tissot or Hamilton.
