My baby sister died overnight (3000 km away) - she was only 51 - she sent me an email about 5 years ago about how much she loved this clip... RIP little Stella...
Man you ain't kidding. Buck is amazing. This whole song is. Erics's voice cuts like a knife. This is such a great performance. Great live band, real musicians.
Eric can sing, Buck can play guitar, Alan on keyboards, and the Bouchard Brothers with that great rhythm section. The finest American Rock band ever!!!
I'm in a bad point of my life, getting old, health issues. I'm in my late 50's.. Just smoked my first legal joint. Listening to this tune. I seen the B.O.C. with Zebra opening in NYC at The Ritz.. Maybe Radio City music Hall.. I don't remember, 17 years old getting served in a NYC bar before the show. Smoking lousy brown seedy weed and loving it! Good times.
Buck's guitar playing here is transcendent, the whole section from 4:30 to the end of the song is a brilliant virtuoso performance and one of my favorite pieces of music ever. Just stunning stuff from a master of his craft.
exactly, guitarists like eddie van halen, stevie ray vaughan, and of course eric clapton who looks like he's almost having telepathic intercourse with the guitar they all make these expressions while playing. buck on the other hand shows zero emotion and is one with the guitar during the entire section.
One of the best - and most mysterious - rock songs ever! The sound and lyrics of The Cult, in this song, has hardly never ever been better! And Buck Dharma! 🇺🇸
50 years of BOC. Forget the SNL crap about more cowbell. I saw these guys in the seventies, and they were the real deal. Great musicianship and smarts.
I'm 61 yrs old now, I remember BOC,like it was high school all over again,I thought it was bitchin then and find almost better today,in this year of 2022,who would of thought, that so many years later, that I'd still be listening to Blue Oyster Cult, you truly rock and God Bless for the memories!
A haunting song, extremely well written, with a lot of mystery about it. I've moved on to other musics but keeps returning to it as I do know… The Cult had more substance and brain cells than most of their contemporaries.
@@lnSignia It's pretty much esoteric, based on a poem by Pearlman… this character of Desdanova, "eternal light", supposed to ba an alter human for aliens called "les invisibles"meets some ladies at the "four wind bar", supposed to become cosmic rendez-vous. Or sumfink…
This is total quality. Especially for the time period. The lyrics are audible. The camera work is great, captures Buck Dharmas fingers dancing incredibly well. Couldn't really ask for much more.
Saw them on this tour at the opening of the Superdome show in New Orleans. I was only 15, and working as a guitar player in a house band. It was a 12 hour concert, and BOC was on the bill, with Heart, Boston, and many others. Buck chewed up and spit out every single guitar player there-Tom Scholz, Roger Fisher, Nancy Wilson, Sammy Hagar, too many to list. All were at the top of their game, and put out very fine performances-there wasn't an off night there for anyone. I had no idea who he was, I figured he HAD to be Al DiMeola until the singer told us his name. That is STILL to this day, the best guitar sound live I have ever heard.
How very lucky we all were. Now in the last few months I got a disc from Joe Bouchard,Blue Oyster Cult and Albert Bouchard.I've been loving thier music for over 45 years now to get new recordings as I turn 60 is overwhelming!!!!Us die hard BOC fans have truly been blessed.Thank You.
This is most underrated song, beautiful, sad and you instantly understand the mood even if you are from another country/culture. I don't know how to describe it...
This song live is a monument ! I really love it and listened for it so many times on "Some enchanted evening".. it's really nice to see this capture . Thank you for it
What a great fantastic band, so underrated. I had all their stuff as a teenager. Saw them live many times.. always a great show. “The nexus of crisis, and the origin of storms” what a line
I was born in 76..... what an amazing song ...pure progressive rock .....and Metallica cover is also astonishing.....fantastic ...what a great band ...good times those days.... Cheers from Brasil...
I was born in 78. Metallica is my favorite band. My dad listened to Blue Oyster Cult. That's why I'm here. I can see why Kirk loved these guys. You can hear it in his solos.... Incredible.
Always happy to see another version of this song posted here. The solos are always different, and always epic. Eric Bloom is in fine voice on this one, and Buck Dharma in the white suit days is always awesome. The only band I've seen live more times than BOC is AC/DC. Jesus Christ, all those riffs.
Always loved these guys... Have seen them quite a few times... First concert 1977 New Haven CT ~ with RUSH... a true night I will always cherish & 4ever remember
This haunting rendition stirs up all kinds of emotions! I saw them in the early 90s at a small venue in Devon PA with a rotating stage (which was closed down just a few years later). I had a terrific time then, but I didn't realize how often I would think about that night, even today. It was just one of those moments that you never forget. I'm in my late 50s now, but when I hear this, I'm 28.
Valley Forge Music Fair was the venue with the rotating stage. Like you said, sadly it's gone. I live about 5 minutes away from where it was. Wish I could travel back in time and witness all the great names that used that stage.
A NY treasure… the Godfathers of OCCULT ROCK. Eric Bloom is so underrated. One of the coolest front men & best lead voices in rock. Buck Dharma is America’s best rock guitarist. Took almost 30 years for people to catch up to just how amazing BÖC is.
Strano che un gruppo fantastico come qst non abbia fatto il successo di altri gruppi all avanguardia di quel tempo. Sto pezzo non ha niente da invidiare ad altri pezzi rock di quel tempo
Thanks, Bruno, this song always gives me pause both musically and lyrically. I still haven't figured out what it's about and at this point don't want to know but the level of musicianship itself was rarely equaled.
It was about 6/7 years back i was in my room with a friend. I had only 1 glass of rum and 2 puffs of marijuana and later about 5mins i listened to this song(metallica cover),i closed my eyes and pretended to play drums but suddenly out of nowhere i lost my concious in the real world, i literally felt i was dead and the devil won my soul, i could see my whole life, like everything from the day i was born till the time i am condemned to hell like watching tv. The burning sulphur was inside my flesh and my face was dripping on the floor like a burning candle. In the meantime my family thought i was possessed by demons, they put bible on my chest and they prayed for me. After a long 1hour i woke up and i was sure it was a vision, it might be because God wants me to repent and if i don't He will damn me hell. ##Friends this is a true story.. Q:Is this song possessed???
They used to play clubs in between dates changing their name to “Soft White Underbelly,” which was cool. I wasn’t lucky enough to catch one of those gigs, unfortunately.

My deepest condolences to you and your family.
This is genuinely one of the greatest guitar solos I've ever heard in my life. All time favorite Cult song
It's truly amazing. This gets about 10 plays a week 😅
Sinful Love is my favorite BOC song
His solo in Veteran of the Psychic Wars is even better.

Buck is so overlooked as a guitar maestro. Saw 'em a ton of times - always godlike.

Its very good but take a look at live video of Rainbow playing "Tearing out my heart" . A real master at work.
And Metallica cover this song 😄
The drums make a perfect job making this part better. One of my favorite pieces of music too!
Love how other guitarists grimace and grunt while they're playing, to put in the emotional effort, and Buck's like nah, it'll be fine. Epic.
So bloody cool 🤣👍🇬🇧

Buck is stone faced as ever. No jumping around or grimacing, just playing the notes in their exact proper order.
One of the best - and most mysterious - rock songs ever! The sound and lyrics of The Cult, in this song, has hardly never ever been better! And Buck Dharma! 🇺🇸

Aigh, edie, ciao baby.
The lyrics are from a old poem about luciferian aliens

eric as well
That guitarist and that drummer are freaking geniuses :)
Buck Dharma and Albert Bouchard!
Love Buck’s performance whilst wearing a 3 piece suit 👍

Agreed! Can't forget about Eric Bloom as well!
I miss Allen, he's one of the greatest rock keyboardists of all time.
Lucky enough to see them on the same bill with Black Sabbath. We grew up in a great time.
I believe that was the Black and Blue tour in '79 - '80? I would have loved to have seen that. Dio was with Sabbath at that time.
50 years of BOC. Forget the SNL crap about more cowbell. I saw these guys in the seventies, and they were the real deal. Great musicianship and smarts.
Yes sir.
Nobody better.
Well to be clear I think SNL was paying them tribute in a satirical way.
No cows here.

Absolutely sublime. And how Buck's solo mimics phrases and motifs from Jimmy Page's Stairway solo is obviously deliberate and beautiful...
