  • “how to change a tire” by Zach Hood is a poignant reflection on personal growth and learning to cope with abandonment. The lyrics narrate the story of a person who was left by their father at a young age, which was the artist’s first experience of heartbreak. The song uses the metaphor of changing a tire to represent the life lessons the singer had to learn on their own, without the guidance of their father. It touches on themes of resilience, self-reliance, and the impact of a parent’s absence on a child’s life. The emotional weight of the song is encapsulated in the chorus, where the singer acknowledges learning to hold their head up high and change their fate, despite being left alone with a “flat ripped up reminder” of their father’s departure.

    • Zach Hood - how to change a tire (Lyrics)
    [Verse 1]
I was eight years old in a world smaller than my hands
The only pain I known was a concrete scrape back then
Till my brother told me it's time to grow up and be a man
'Cause daddy build a home with someone else, somewhere else in the state
    Oh, I'm drivin' now
Ten and two without you, but I'm findin' out
    [Chorus]
I learned when it all gets low how to hold my head up higher
I learned how to change my fate despite the way I'm wired
But I'm on the side of the road and I'm all alone
With this flat ripped up reminder
That you left and let us down
And you never showed me how to change a tire
To change a tire, you never showed me how
    [Verse 2]
To really love someone without the fear they're gonna let me go
    How to stay, not run
But thanks to you that's the love I know
I see you in my face, but I got my mother's heart
I love the light I made, but there's always a missin' part
    [Chorus]
I learned when it all gets low how to hold my head up higher
I learned how to change my fate despite the way I'm wired
But I'm on the side of the road and I'm all alone
With this flat ripped up reminder
That you left and let us down
And you never showed me how to change a tire
    How to change a tire
Oh-oh, you never showed me how
You never showed me how, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
    [Outro]
You never showed me how, you never showed me how
    You never showed me how
    Oh-oh-oh

He had no choice to leave me n my twin brother….; but, he had the choice of coming back to at least see us….., you still haven’t taught me how to change a tire, the only tire you taught me how to change was a bike tire, now, my uncle or aunt will teach me how to change one….., I love you, uncle Dennis Sandoval n Auntie Robin Shepherd🤍🤍🤍

I believe that there are questions that only death could answer, and I'm looking forward to knowing them one day.
