This is the fifth site I've seen about the unveiling. Just seen the third child for the first time!!! Who else hadn't seen the 3rd child till now.

Yeah, I actually clicked this vid because the title said it had a third child and I never saw it in the other videos.
What we miss most in the imagery of the statue is its lack of Diana's radiant SMILE and the essence of her natural warm EMBRACE towards all in need of LOVE and CARE and particularly her family.
It is off. This is NOT the statue implied all these months before the unveiling. It does not reflect Diana. It should have been Diana alone or with her children. It is not the expected depiction of her. How disappointing.

She was a school teacher before the Palace got her and dolled her up . She was stylish because Palace wanted it . Look at her pictures before she married. Her siblings and boys knew the true Diana.

They shared the photo in which she and the boys were captured sharing a moment. I feel they chose THAT OUTFIT as it is a found memory they wanted to remember. She wore a skirt large buckle and pleat front blouse...just as the sculpture. I would imagine in time we will hear why they chose THAT moment to memorialize. Perhaps we can come back to the conversation after having learned more.
Oh why did they put the biggest wrinkles on her skirt... to match the biggest belt buckle? surely the belt buckle was half that size, however did she sit with that buckle? it must have been very uncomfortable. Is she smiling?

@@waitiwaita6993 The sculptor must have got the commissiona via the aristocratic connections and networking. There are obvious mistakes in the sculpture - it is literally wrong, not just not Diana.
He’s made her like a male bodybuilder, and why put her in her dullest outfit. She was both a humanitarian and glamorous fashion icon, but you’d never know it from this disaster.

I’m sorry this statue does not give out warmth. It’s nothing like her. In fact her expression is very sad and cold looking. I personally think it might been better her wearing a long flowing dress, flowers in her hand and the lovely smile she radiated. The children do nothing for the statue. This is my personal view you may like it, I don’t. That’s your choice

Diana was a lady and a wonderful Mother. She dearly loved her boys.
Dreadful statue, she looks frumpy, and out of proportion, her left hand as we look at it appears oversized. Even the colour is dull, and heaven forbid it turn green. Out of all the wonderful poses we have seen of her over her life, this is definitely not the most beautiful.
I agree the statue does not represent her beauty but I think it depicts her caring, humbleness, and her devotion to her causes.

I think they represent that she loved all children. I just don’t like the one hidden in the back. Diana would never leave a child out like that.
Especially the one at the back. I didn't realise there was a third child until I saw the side view. Not really my cup of tea as I don't know much about statues, but it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks, all that matters is that Prince William, Harry and Diana's siblings like it.

You mean the two younger princes, who as adults were the chair of the commission of the work, designing the sculpture? Wouldn't it be odd to make a statue of yourself? I find it extremely tasteful that it is NOT them. Which is evident that her virtue of humbleness is a trait she instilled in her sons.

Diana may live on in eternal youth, but William and Harry continue to age (let’s hope for a long time). William and Harry are both older now than Diana was when she died; to portray them as kids after almost 25 years would have been weird and morbid. The statute portrays Diana as her two sons want her memorialized. She may have been the “People’s Princess” but she was their mother, and their opinion is really all that matters.

It's kinda sad how we can see everyone around her getting older and talking year after year in each new documentary about her, while Diana is just frozen in time. It would be great to be able to tweet her today and watch her youtube channel, which I'm sure she would have.
I like to think as William and Harry are standing there looking at this sculpture of their mother that their minds are flooding with memories of her and them together laughing, crying, hugging, wonderful memories they shared TOGETHER with mum. No, the face does not look like Diane did as the adolescent she was when she got married. It does look like her adult, mature face as she was on the brink of middle age. It does not matter what I think of it, or what most of us think of it. The statue was commissioned by her family, so if they are happy with it, the rest of us can sit down and be quiet. In fact, we could do that entire family a lot of good right now by sitting down and being quiet.

Body was too long and legs too short, Her right arm was three or four inch too long, and the face and hair look nothing like Diana. Also clothes were nothing like Diana would have worn. I never saw her in such a massive belt which emphasised how wrong the dimensions of this piece was. She was an elegant stylish lady, even in jeans. I'm sure there were far better sculptors out there that could have done a better job. Even a Madame Tussaud's sculptor would have done better. I am very disappointed.
I'm so glad the event went off without a hitch, and that Harry's aunts and uncle greeted him so warmly, after all Charles Spencer knows all about media lies.

I never saw three kids till now one is hiding. I not crazy about it it just don’t look like her. She looks stuffy did not capture her love for people at all.
I see the sculpture as a symbol of Princess Diana’s goodness and care for others, especially children. It is not a literal representation of her life. It was a good day for her sons to mend their relationship although memorializing their mother.
I get emotional Everytime I get reminded that she shook hands with an Aids patient and later would carry children with Aids and other medical conditions. She is the original ,when it comes to you're so " brave".

I don’t remember, but it was something like a person will come that is beloved by all and her days are short… I’ve read the Bible three times and the KJV is hard to understand at times. I disagree. The statue is meant to depict Diana's love of all children, which was the essence of her being. To have included W & H would have been inappropriate as that would have made it more about them than their mother, not the caring public figure Diana was. Those are my thoughts, nobody has to agree with me.

The sons ordered it and they paid for it with the help of donors and it's on private property. They chose the outfit and if they are happy then I am happy.

Glad she's dressed a bit more casual. Honors how she wasn't just a "fancy princess" but a humanitarian. One who was always ready to roll her sleeves up & work. I do wish the face resembled her a bit more, but all in all, it's a beautiful way to honor her & her achievements. RIP Princess Diana
Just a difference of opinion, that won't make a difference. From many comments, seems the public may want to do their own Statue. Everyone knows the good humanitarian work Diana was well known for. Just would have thought being in the Garden(, she dreamed of a Fairytale), she loved to Dance, loved the beautiful glamour, would have expected an angel dancing happily with her special tilt of her head and the way her eyes looked upward. She will be remembered for many things in many ways. Regardless of a Statue.

Sculptors have a difficult time capturing the appearance of historical figures at a time when large numbers of people remembered what the famous looked like. I wonder if people alive in 1920 would have felt the same upon seeing a statue of Queen Victoria.
I have read so many disappointing comments of the unveiling of Princess Diana statue! I’m a little surprised why didn’t her sons Prince William & Harry explain the statue or the person who actually did the statue of Princess Diana why the three children why were they placed on the statue as they were, just an explanation of the statue or is that not done because this is personal for William & Harry & they’re the ones who approved the statue! I personally think it’s hard to capture Princess Diana who was so beautiful with a beautiful smile so young when she died! We all remember so many different & beautiful qualities about Princess Diana that’s its hard to capture all of them in a statue! I do agree her smile could have been more Princess Diana like. I don’t understand the placement of the three children either? But we must agree one thing both Princess Diana sons Prince William & Harry approved the drawings before it became a statue! So if they’re happy with it then that’s what matters!

Yup, I understand. At first glance, I said “what! It does not look like her” but, as I kept examining the essence of the image and memories, it has a darting hint of representation of her image. The artist is skilled at sculpturing but not as gifted when it come to defining her youthful look. The little girl looks so mature. Yet, right away the boy is noted as a young lad. I am happy with it. It’s the gift from the heart that counts. Being an artist myself, Art is never an exact resemblance but an representation of the person’s essence and story. So, its not good or bad, its aesthetic is just to be admired.
That doesn’t look like Diana. The whole top of her body is off. Her hair is completely wrong.

I think my problem with the statue is how cold and harsh looking it is---and Diana was the complete opposite. Maybe a white, softer color marble would have been nicer.
I recognized the outfit instantly. The posture did look like her. It did not portray her lovely face well at all. The face looked harsh to me.
I loved the reference to how she's dressed in the statue, a direct reference to the photo shown of her and the boys- pleated blouse, wide belt, and skirt.
I think it is a visual atrocity but a sentimental victory.
My comment is the statue just nothing for Diana I thought it would be something beautiful and marble beautiful as she was but that lost me completely whoever made it out of ask for my money back.

The children in the statue represent her charity work focused on children. Thats what made her popular with the public. Letting children with AIDs sit on her lap during the 80s was seen as a big deal.
I would have preferred just a statue of Diana, possibly sitting on a bench.

It is good to see them relaxed and comfortable together, just as they were after their grandfather's funeral..they will always be bonded as brothers.. it is appropriate that none of the other Royals were present on this occasion..this was their day. Diana would be proud and supportive of both of them.
I doubt that they are relaxed or comfortable with each other given what Harry and his wife continue to do in order to destroy the royal family… I am not a royalist and never will be but Harry and his wife should be ashamed of all their lies and whining. Karen being the youngest 5 boys I can tell. The fighting is true too. But, you swash it as quickly as it comes up. Which IMO they did a long time ago. Well done to her sons for making the day about her and not the sad situation existing between them at present. Well done The Duchess of Cambridge for remaining at home. Time enough for family viewing away from cameras.

A white marble bust on a plinth would have been better IMO.Something to portray her extraordinary beauty and charisma, a more classical representation of Diana. This statue looks all wrong.
You are correct ,but it probably is difficult to represent her character and beauty in a piece of metal,Me thinks a copy of her sitting down (ala taj mahal)would have been a better idea,not this shite,she looks like she is leading the kids "down the garden path".

I find it beautiful. Her stance is perfect, her hair too. Faces are impossible to capture exactly in a bronze or any statue really. I love it.
I really like this statue - much more than I expected to. It's lovely and dignified, not sentimentalized or deifying, the way I thought it might be. They chose to depict her humanity, work and outstretched arms. Great choice. Seeing her sons unveil it was very touching.
The statue should have her smiling, she had a warm welcoming smile.
If I had seen this statue, situated anywhere else, I would not have recognised it as Diana. Sorry.
What are you looking at? The right arm is grotesque. The left hands fingers belong to ET. Both arms are way too long.Her body wasn't built like that, with her breasts uneven like that (in a bra no less.) Her face wasn't that shape, the nose is wrong and she was ALWAYS smiling around children. The hair and outfit are from 2 different eras in her life. Her legs and feet are way off, knees are too big and sideways (?), and the feet are on the wrong sides, too large and in shoes the Queen wears. Last but certainly not least, Diana wouldn't have been standing over them like that. She would be down at their level, whether bending over to chat or crouching down to their size. And she wouldn't have allowed that little boy to have been an afterthought in the back like that. She would have insisted he be up front with the others. This statue looks NOTHING like Diana. It looks like some man wearing her frock. I am so disappointed in this statue. Mores the pity too, as I was so excited to see it. At least the grounds were pretty to look at. That thing should be melted down and maybe several should be commissioned to chose from to replace it. I seriously don't know how that monstrosity took 5yrs to make. It's an affront to the art community. It's disrespectful to Diana's memory and I think the boys are just too polite to say any different. Especially after the big deal leading up to the unveiling. What a pity. If this was a statue of the Queen or Prince Philip, it would never had been unveiled. Period. They tried. We know how much they love their mother. Maybe in the future we will see a better statue just appear with no fanfare to replace this atrocity to mankind. One can hope.
💯 percent agree with your critique, it's nauseating when I read these positive comments about the worst possible sculpture I've ever seen! Someone should make it disappear, never to be recreated.
I'm not sure that I care for the look of the statue. Maybe it's because I so think of Diana in the flesh and blood, and any portrayal short of that just doesn't seem right. The world was a much better place when Princess Diana was in it. It was good to see the "boys" together however, and the grounds around that area look just gorgeous. She was a dear our Diana, and will always hold a special place in our hears.
I wonder Why I get Sad whenever I hear her Name... it feels like I really knew her!

If you didn’t tell me who it was, I wouldn’t know. The statue looks nothing like her.
I got the idea behind the children immediately. Diana loved children and was always very kind and compassionate towards all children. I do not care for the way Diana herself appears. It captures nothing of her looks nor her amazing personality. The dark color of the statue is not appealing. It makes the statue look old and worn. But it was approved by her sons who knew her better than almost anyone and if they are pleased with it then that is all that matters. RIP Diana. You touched so many lives and we're adored by millions. You legacy shall live on long after we all are gone. Truly a beautiful, compassionate, inspirational woman. The world is a better place because of all your contributions.
