Right before you said "HOW!?"...I honest to God was thinking to myself "HOW DOES MAYNARD DO THIS??" And not just once or twice, but over and over and over again across THREE DIFFERENT PROJECTS. My science-minded brain just can't comprehend the creative artistic abilities that man has 😳🤯 Like how special is it to knowwe are all living at the same time as him and we are all fortunate enough to experience this!?♥️
Well I guess I learned something new today! I honestly didn't know that this one was all Billy. This is literally the only album out of all of Maynard's discography that I really haven't listened to at all.
Also fyi, I believe it’s Billy and not Maynard that did the vocals on this one. He is perhaps even more the influencer of the music and voice of A Perfect Circle as Maynard is. You’ll see his influence vocally when you see the red rocks performance….their voices together are really special
The “original” of “Passive” is an unreleased track called “Vacant” from The Tapeworm Project (collaboration between Maynard and Trent Reznor that never fully formed) that A Perfect Circle only played live as far as I know, so it might be hard for you to find. Good luck!
Yet another example of why this format was perfect for this album. The contrast is so huge. BTW, don't try to find the original for "Passive." It was a Tapeworm (Maynard and Trent Reznor side project) song so it never got released. There was a live version that APC did, and IMO it was much better than the official release as a cover.
Billy is the vocalist for this song. Underrated vocals.
Thanks again for an APC deep dive. I’m excited for you to get to Eat the Elephant and the Live at Red Rocks

Did Maynard have anything to do with this track?

Nice Take! ✌
Thanks for these, enjoying your journey into APC. I’m looking forward to you getting to Eat the Elephant and the Live at Red Rocks!

@ you are correct! Billy credited on leads for this one. Crazy that they can get away with having two incredible vocalists!

I really prefer this version. I think APC makes it a far deeper song than the original. They turned it into an instant classic.

When you get a chance, check out Elvis Costello’s version of this.
Elvis Costello did a great version of this.
