This is S.Y.N.C.
A VRChat Short Film captured ENTIRELY in virtual reality.
This is my very first film captured in this medium and I am very happy with the results. This is a film that features martial arts that are performed in real-time to keep it authentic, and fresh. The film started production late June and underwent 4 consecutive days of non-stop filming. This was captured with only a SINGLE body actor, myself.
This film utilized a (now retired) FreezeFrame mod which allowed myself to keep all the fights low-latency and the initial production significantly easier.

Never have I ever seen a vrchat short film until now. It's good. The choreography is good. The fight scenes flowed well. It looked like it was actually happening. The main character, which I presume is you, kinda sounds like Leon. The voice acting is great. The suspense, the thrill, the unknowing of what could happen at every turn. It's great that you can tell what the characters are thinking without actually hearing the words. The visible confusion, or rather, it's like the character silently saying, "How's that going to help"? when Genie says "Don't die". The music adds to the greatness of this. I think it's fantastic when the main character pulls out his swords like the hidden blades from Assassins Creed. Again, I can't stress this enough, the animations look like actual game cutscenes. It's so good.
I wish vr chat animations were this possible, the fighting would boost the game up so much. If only they allowed pvp
Seen this a few times already but just wanted to say, WELL DONE! The cinematics, choreography, sound effects, and overall production are fantastic!

I have to agree that the choreography was amazing! It must have been incredibly difficult getting the timing and position of all those moves just right. The acting and dialogue wasn't shabby either. Great job. Really sets a standard for others to live up to.

ngl I was expecting the worst it being vrchat and all that but THIS IS REALLY GOOD! Funny and good quality for what it was performed in, really cool!
I wasn't able to check the freezeframe by myself, but I've seen things made with friends and they were cool.
But this... I wasn't aware you could actually use it like this, clearly you used it the best way possible and it came out excellent !.
The technicism you put into each scene, the camera angles and the movements around are well executed and professional looking.

Excellent short film! Definitely worth the wait and I loved watching the process of it all coming together over on Twitter!
The choreography was excellent as many have said, but I do think the pacing and timing between each move was inconsistent and didn't quite flow naturally. A way you could fix this for future projects is cut down the amount of time characters look at each other when one falls down (no more than 3 seconds) and such or speed up the footage, otherwise it feels like both are just a bit too idle and simply waiting, you'll also want it to be close matching to the tempo or beat of the music to have more of an audience impact. Obviously, this is much more difficult in VR so that's why it's already very impressive you were able to utilize all the tools/mods we had during the filming of this.
The voice acting was excellent in the calm areas, but could use a bit more emotion/exaggeration during fight scenes, would need to sound like heavily breathed or exerting energy considering all the fast movements, make sure you're VA's take the exercises to achieve this level of believability in their voice work. That being said, the audio levels of the voices were a bit inconsistent, I had to turn up my volume a couple times during Alpha and the Rex's low speaking parts, and back down again during Genie's lines being much louder, try to target a certain db audio level for voices, I find the best to be around -8db and work everything else from there. The foley, sfx, ambience and music were excellent! That can be a long and tedious process but it really payed off in this short!
While I absolute LOVE choice based videos/games, the cutoff with the quote felt very abrupt and took my attention away for a couple seconds. I understand it as a way to influence the choice we make a bit, but I feel it would be much more earned and appropriate at the end of each choice to give the viewer something to think about, words for thought after they've watched.
Sorry to sound like a college professor, just wanted to give personal feedback so that your next project is even better than this one! This short film was very well done and incredible to see! Be proud of yourself and everything you've done for this project! The hard work definitely paid off and I enjoyed it quite a lot! Even found myself to laugh at most of the jokes! Personally, I would think recording the choreography slowly and then speeding it up would be the better option, because that might also minimize the visual artifacts from the imperfect VR tracking. But that's just my input as someone that knows literally nothing about this stuff. To the maker: this film was super well done and I actually really enjoyed watching it. Good job!

DAMN, I haven't even finished it yet, I'm pretty early into this, less than 5 minutes in, but yet THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD. AND THE FACT THERE'S A *LONG* FIGHT SCENE?? I HAVEN'T SEEN ONE OF THOSE IN AGES! I consider a "long" fight scene to be more than a minute because of where *I* come from, but still, THIS IS REALLY DAMN GOOD, AND I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH, keep up the good work dude!

I loved this film, I have always wanted to make my own, and this has further proved that it is possible. Thank you. I love all the characters, the angles, the fight scenes. I really have no more words that could describe my amazement, or inspiration. I love it. S.Y.N.C. for the win! Also, Alpha has some more adventures to endure and I’m excited to see them.

This is a masterpiece! Every shot gave me the feel of thrill and excitement chills going down my spine waiting to see the next move. All the acting was amazing for the fight scenes they were incredibly, I can see that this may become something bigger then it already is in the future and I can't wait to see it.

Thank you for adding the burned-in/opened caption. It definitely helped me to understand the whole movie better because I am Deaf and I do rely on subtitles all the time. Good job!

Me and a friend were watching this film. I picked it because Protogen. What we got instead was SO MUCH FIGHTING and DAMN the story was really good. We HATED Genie at first then said he was different then how he sounded. The ending we picked was Show Mercy. I didn't except 1 hour since i figured seeing the trend, 30 minutes tops...was a little disappointed with that BUT for 23 minutes you surely made my friend lose it XD. 10/10 Rating from us.

I watched this last night while at the VRC New Years 2023 world, and I have to say. The amount of time and effort put into this cinematic masterpiece is not only striking and pleasing to watch; but the choreography is insanely impressive! Phenomenal, even! I couldn't stop watching it for a second. The music choices were a lovely touch to the fight scene. It added suspense and was just all-around eye-catching! This is what inspires me to want to do things like this! And I'm waiting for that chance!

This. Is. Amazing. During the first fight scene, I kept screaming, "GRAB THE KNIFE! JUST GO FOR IT!" You know how to make a thrilling story. (You earned a sub and this is the first video of yours I've seen.)
I am incredibly amazed, in awe about such a incredibly hard quality film entirely realised in vrchat, which is an accomplishemnt by itself, nothing to say but one of the greastest films to watch

Just saw it. It's very impressive that it feels like a real movie. It flowed well, there was mystery, is very fun to watch. Also, it was intentionally funny.
Since 2018 I've been on VR chat on and off, and I didn't think we'd progress so fast into Ready Player One territory. But I think in five more years with post rendering enabled, we might be changing the animation industry. 😮

I really don't like furry stuff, but man the story telling and the realistic back and forth between fighting was so good. I didn't care that it was furries, simply making the story and characters good hooked me to it and I love it when the protagonist actually has a challenge instead of being a superman. Great film! I'd love to see more if you do make more.

The motion capture is honestly impeccable honestly insane. Considering the fact that I try to strive to be able to be to that stature, it motivates me to keep trying to at least attempt to be able to do better for myself because I honestly would like to be able to be to that kind of level of motion capture instead of this clunky mess of a person when it comes to motion capture XD point being made. This has to be the best motion capture film whenever comes to VR chat that I've seen in the longest time and I hope in some time in the near future that you get your big recognition you deserve.

There's something about the slower and deliberate combat in this short film. In a lot of films of this style there's a real sense of speed to combat where everything has to be unga bunga with extra flair, and even if this is kind of a limitation of how you're working as a body actor through VR Chat alone, It gives S.Y.N.C. a flavor I haven't really seen in action combat films with very rare exceptions.
