Please see my fairly detailed demo of Bosch Dishwasher SMS40M52EU. I have shown only one longer wash cycle in the demo. This is for all my friends and relatives in India and all those who would want to buy a dishwasher but have lots of doubts. I hope I have covered most of the issues. +Arjun Chakraverti Further to my comment above, we are still confused about which brand to buy. We have been considering Siemens, Bosch and IFB. We had an IFB (Bosch) washing machine from 1995 till 2013. It never gave us any trouble and IFB service was excellent right through. We now have a Bosch washing machine. We have never needed any service so far so we don't know whether Bosch service is any good. Some friends told us that Siemens is also very good. What do you feel? Also, what is Bosch service like (your experience)? Your feedback on manuals and plugs was not very encouraging but maybe your experience of their after sales service has been better? Any feedback?

Regarding Bosch service, my experience is the same as yours. Fortunately, although over 3 and half years, I have never had the need to call for service as I have not faced any problem till now. Although I believe Bosch service should be good, I cannot give a clear answer on this.
My candid comments about plugs, manuals etc. are minor issues that do not affect performance. These can be resolved easily by ourselves at our end. However I feel Bosch would have taken care of these things by now. My machine was perhaps from the very first lot which was fully imported.
You have mentioned that you are happy with both IFB and Bosch machines. So you could go for either of these. Although I believe Bosch would be more technologically superior. I have seen the present models with additional program cycles and extra features.
I have also seen other brands of dish washer with certain different features. You should be able to choose a brand best suited to you based on features, availability and price.

Bhuvana A : Purchased Siemens SN26L800IN. Tell me about usage of white vinegar in place of shiner, and how it will help in reducing the soap usage as well as cleanliness, if you have tried. you can also brief about how you r taking care of regular maintenance.
Bharat Ram Extremely sorry for the delayed reply. Glad that you have bought a dishwasher. SIEMENS and BOSCH belong to the same group and hence the machine must be very good. Hope you are finding it useful and it has made life easier. Your model seems to have some more additional programs and features like pre rinse, half load , etc. which I am sure would be very convenient.
Regarding using vinegar in place of rinse aid, I am afraid I have no information on this at all. Although I have heard that vinegar can be used as a cleaner, I have no experience of using this in the dishwasher. I have been faithfully using only rinse aid and am finding the results quite good. Hence I regret I am not able to answer this query.
Regarding maintenance, I have been fortunate to have good quality of water and power supply. Hence machine has been working without any problems. I clean the exteriors with wet cloth like we clean our refrigerator, washing machine, etc. We have to ensure water does not get into the control panel buttons. Hence I avoid operating with wet hands. The interior of the machine is always clean. I just clean the drain filter regularly, around once a week.

+Vijai Karthik Yes they recommend water softener. The dishwasher salt is for the same purpose. Of course, for best results, they recommend setting the salt dispenser according to the hardness of water. It is mentioned in the manual. The quantity of salt consumption would then be based on the hardness of water. This would help in optimum softening of water. Fortunately, I am having very good quality water at my place which is a major reason for the cleaning efficiency I get here. Previously I was keeping the setting at 2 and now I have kept the setting at 1 (0 is for pure soft water, no salt consumption and 5 for hard water, max salt consumption). So salt consumption for me is very very less. So I am sorry I am not able to give a clear answer for your question. But I am sure if you have the water hardness checked and keep the salt consumption setting according to that, you should get good results. I would be happy to know your feedback and experience on this. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting.

Very useful. As Bhuvana rightly said no one gives a demo. I've been planning to buy one, but had the lurking doubt whether some pre-wash needs to be done physically before loading the vessels. Looks like soaking in water is enough which we do in any case. Thanks Bhuvana!

Thank you Mr. Vijay for having found the video informative. You need continuous running water for the dish washer just like for the washing machine. This dish washer uses anywhere between 9 litres to 19 litres depending on the wash cycle raging from 29 minutes to 2.55 minutes. The energy consumption ranges from 0.8 kWh to 1.60 kWh from the shortest to the longest programme.

I have covered both good issues about the brand as well as those issues they should have taken care. Obviously (big) companies do not like to hear anything against their product even if it comes in the form of constructive criticism or suggestions from an actual customer/user. My idea in making the video was to convey the benefits of using a dishwasher. I was aware Bosch would benefit as my machine is a BOSCH and my video has definitely reduced their effort in marketing the dishwasher concept and giving a good demo. Thanks once again.

Thank you very much for this video. It helped me decide to buy a dishwasher since I had problem with maids. The information in this video also helped me to use my dishwasher better once I bought it.
It is now almost 2 months since I bought BOSCH dishwasher. The model is different from yours. The problem that I am facing is that my steel utensils are not getting cleaned properly. For example if I have used the vessel to make porridge or boiled eggs or mixed chapathi dough etc. there are kind black stains left on the sides of the vessels. (these vessels that I have used are not burnt and hence according to me does not require prior scrubbing). I even called the service center. They came and checked it and said that is the wash quality expected from the dishwasher. They said you cannot get the efficiency as washed by hand. I am disappointed.
In your video I see that all the steel vessels are shining. I even rinse my vessels and keep and have also used the long duration but did not get the same results as yours.
So wanted to check with you if you have faced any such problems and how to resolve it. Also can you suggest as to what can be done so that I can get better results from my dishwasher.
Thara Vijaya I am sorry to note that you are not getting the desired results from your dishwasher. I am surprised that the vessel used to make porridge and chapathi dough are not cleaned properly. First of all I would like to know if these vessels had any stains before you started using dishwasher, i.e. were the stains in these vessels cleaned if washed by hand? If so it should also get cleaned in the dishwasher.
Occasionally some stains can be removed by lightly scrubbing with steel wool/scrubber directly under water immediately after wash cycle is completed. Just running the longer program need not yield the desired result always. Longer duration program can be used for more stubborn, heavily greased vessels etc.. Otherwise normal cleaning can be obtained by running the shorter program also.
At times the place where we arrange the vessels also matters. Keep more greasy vessels in places where the spray arm sprays more water, i.e. see for places where the spray arm has more holes. You have to learn all these by trial and error only. I am sure slowly you will understand your machine better and will be able to get the desired results.
About the stain made by boiled eggs, I think you may have to scrub that vessel before putting in the machine. Even during hand wash one has to scrub it well for the stain to go. We cannot expect a dishwasher to remove stains caused by boiling water as all it does is spray a jet of hot water repeatedly over the vessels. Hence removing oil stains, milk, curd residues, curry residues is easier than removing a stain formed by boiling (like egg, rice, certain vegetables etc.). in water causes a kind of black stain as you have mentioned, which can be removed only by scrubbing a bit.
My advice is you check the rinse aid setting and also try arranging vessels in a different manner. Dishwasher gives hand wash like results in 90 % vessels. The remaining 10 % vessels with more stains, will be 100 % clean with a little human effort.l

Hi Geetha, I don't think my electric bill has increased much after using dish washer. The minimum time taken for a cycle is 29 minutes for which the energy consumption is 0.80kWh and the longest cycle time is 2.55 miNutes for which the energy consumption is 1.60 kWh. demo was very good madam...all these days I thought it doesn't suit Indian conditions...only drawback is the time taken....if one can programme their schdule it should not be a problem...probably they can program for night so that morning vessels are ready....thanks for your demo once again
Thank you very much for appreciating and commenting. In my video I have shown long cycle which takes a long time. This is required only for a few vessels which have stubborn stains. Most daily use vessels can be washed in the shorter cycle of 29 minutes. For vessels with some more stain, one could use pre wash which is available in today's machines. There are in all program options and you can choose any one according to the intensity of grease and stain in your dishes. Longer program is not always a must. The shorter program at 40 deg gives an equally good wash, with proper placement of more stained utensils in the bottom rack, just above the points where maximum water is sprayed by the spray arm.

We bought SIEMENS dishwasher and we find that milk and tea vessel has some residue after wash cycle of 1:15 hrs. Afterwards a hand scrub is necessary to clean it perfect. Do you also face such difficulty?

could you please tell why to use a full mode when we can make it in half time using Vario speed mode? also what is the budget for all these salt ,rinse aid and detergent per month and power consumption approximately?also what happens if the machine gets switched off in the middle of the cycle?is it automatic like washing machine......it starts from where it stops in the cycle?

Thanks for your comment and query. The manual says a full mode consumes less power and water than the vario speed option. But I generally use Vario speed when I have a mix of heavily soiled and lightly soiled dishes/vessels. Whereas I use the full mode whenever I have a full load of heavily soiled vessels. This is the best explanation I can give from my experience.
Yes it is just like washing machine, any program if stopped due to power cut or any other reason while running, resumes from that point and completes the cycle.
Assuming one cycle everyday of the month with mix of both short and long cycles, the cost approximately works out to Power - 40 units per month. Assuming Rs. 7/- per unit, this can be taken as 280/-. Cost of soap powder, rinse aid, dishwasher salt comes to about Rs. 160-170 per month (Rs. 1800 to Rs. 2000 per year).
So the total per month can be taken as approx Rs. 450/- per month.
This may increase or decrease depending on the quality of water. If water is better, above consumables consumption will reduce. If water quality is not good, the consumption of soap, salt etc will increase .which in effect will increase your monthly cost. Besides you will also need to do descaling once in a while. I am not aware of the cost of descaling.
Depending on the hardness of the water you have to adjust the salt setting in your machine, setting ranging from 00(min) to 05(max). The above figures are for salt setting of 01 as our water is fairly soft. If the water is very hard you have to set the salt setting to 05, in which case salt consumption will be very high.
