Ive tuned on a ton of different two strokes over the years, and your explanation of the difference between the sounds of lean or rich was spot on. They make pwk 28,33,35,39,41. Ive had them all. Great carbs. Another HUGE factor in jetting is the mtr build itself.. (dome design/porting...) Ive fought and fought on jetting a particular mtr(and the engine builder) for weeks. I spent hundreds of dollars on just about ever needle they make and it still ran like a turd. Turned out the dome design was horrible.... long story short, your have to have a total package to truly tune a two stroke
Keihin is the easies to tune long time motocross bike rider (never cared much for Mikuni carbs) - but KTM is now TPI on Enduro and cross country race bikes (except for the SX version) -
I had a 38mm pwk kehine carb spent weeks trying to jet it, watches hundreds of videos on carbs and how to tune never was able to get it. I found the lectron carb and also watched hundreds of videos on it and it was supposed to help exactly what was wrong and it did after a little bit of work
"Fuck this, fuck that, fuck everything." If I said that does not sound very intelligent,---I think I know what you would reply. 1:20 min in. Good Values are worth keeping.
missed y'all saturday driver,,good to hear from you today. Makes sense on the carb for dragging or riding woods. Kinda like the engine ,,you really dont want a high strung ,up on the pipe for woodsy shit compared to running a quarter drag run. excess power for both but controllable. Does that make sense? I gotta fuckin go!
great video bud! I have a genuine 35 pwk on my DT200 motor thats in my Blaster and it was easy to tune, the jet block oring was bad at first and I couldnt tune it for weeks, I have a 34 PJ as well but I give up on it, I have a CEL 48 PJ and 162 in the winter and 158 when its hot outside
Dont burn up engines! If your experimenting with jetting do plug chops. Check out south texas banshee. He has a video on doing plug chops with a hole saw. Id rather spend 100 bucks on a box of plugs than hundreds or thousands on a motor. And by the way. Kiehin has pwks starting at 28mm and goes up in the 40s.
I'm late to the party, you sell that Lectron yet? I'm building another Zilla, so I may be interested. I've run both, I find the Lectron to be convenient when you're changing elevations often, say from 350' to around 7500'. I know the PWK will do this as well but when you drive 2 days from Ohio to Wyoming it's hard to not just do what you know instead of loosing a day to tuning.
Dam can't believe I have my 310 with the 38mm pwk jetted close to your 390 would think yours would be much higher i run a 180 main 52 pilot and cel needle in the middle slot and took her out on the mx track today and ran great
Is it really worth it to spend loads of money on a lectron? I will be riding on about 3000ft with temps ranging from 5 Degrees celcius in the winter to 40 degrees celcius in the summer, and once a year ill be going to the coast where it is kinda cold..Whats your opinion?
Love the video. Very informative. I was curious about the Lectron. My dad and I pull modified garden tractors. 50.5 ci on methanol. We run about a 52-55 mm carb. You said the Lectron was good for drag racing. Just curious if it would work in our application. Thanks for the info.
Justin, I've been running lectron carbs for many years now. I have seen them on quads and dirtbikes and I'm not 100% sure I agree with that. However, them bastards are the best of the best when it comes to dragbikes!
Love your videos Justin! This is a very long comment but hope you have the time to read it because I think it might convince you. If there’s one thing I could recommend you try out, it would be to try a TE SmartCarb. They are all made to specific order just like the Lectron but that’s where the similarities start to end between the two. I ordered a 40mm SmartCarb SC2 for my CR500R and I’m really impressed with it in every way. The only thing I had to adjust was the idle and that literally was all I had to do. They absolutely nailed the tuning out of the box. The thing runs like a bat out of Satan’s fiery butthole. Runs really crispy with the fastest, most lighting quick throttle response I’ve ever felt out of any well tuned carbs I’ve owned. As far as power goes, comparing (for example) between a 38mm SC2 to a 38mm Lectron, you’ll make more power with the SC2 since the bore behind the slide is actually smaller by 4mm for some reason on the Lectron (for 38mm models at least). From what I’ve seen as far as benefits over a Lectron is that it has no power jet (just a metering rod), it only has one hose running off of it which is for draining the float bowl (the carb itself is internally vented), the choke is on the right (left) side, and it actually adjusts itself for all altitudes with the air scoop that is found at the top of the venturi bell which regulates air going into the float bowl based on air temp/pressure/density and it also allows that same high speed air in the scoop to pressurize the fuel in the float bowl which is also how it manages to get enough fuel squirted out of the metering rod like a fuel injector, thus not needing a power jet. I’ve tested my bike anywhere from a few feet above sea level to high enough mountain elevations to where I would need to retune a normal carb and it ran perfect no matter where I went. There was even a SmartCarb that was tested on a 50cc U.A.V. at 22,000 feet which I felt was pretty impressive. Being $700, I was personally skeptical of buying one until I tried it and I can safely say hands down it’s the best $700 (let alone money) I’ve spent on any of my bikes. If I ever come out to any of the events you go to in the future, I’d definitely let you ride my bike to feel how it acts. I’d let Sabo ride it too. Thank you for reading this if you did and keep up the great content!
That’s not a drag carb. A lot of 2stroke bikes use it for better lugability. On a 2 stroke dirt bike the lectron can really wake it up low end. Fuel mileage will for sure be better on a dirt bike. It’s not for everyone. I’m new to carbs. My raptor is efi. Lectron seems nice to me
The Lectron doesn’t have as much low-end grunt as a normal carb. I’ve got both on my ‘15 KTM 300 XC, and for steep technical, the Kehein is superior. The Lectron still needs adjusting with elevation changes, so I just went back to the Kehein. I know how to adjust the metering rod, and how to adjust needles/jets; the Lectron isn’t as good as the hype, in my opinion.
"i dont look at plugs" lmao . dude a plug will tell you a lot about how a 2 stroke is running . its not right spreading wrong information . thats whats wrong with all the forums . along with the "all 2 stroke oils are the same" was wrong also . not all 2 stroke oils are the same . just like the "i run oxygenated fuel because it makes the most power" . you was wrong about that also . im trying to hate man dont get me wrong . im just trying to help by saying youre wrong .
He didn’t say all 2 stoke oils were the same he said the exact opposite and plugs are different also stop being like that no matter what he said it was a great video
@@joshbeck289 spark plugs are different as far as temperature ranges etc but a plug chop will still forever tell you what’s up black= too much fuel white= lean as hell stop and up your flow rates before you melt something & brownish/ tan= becomes optimal so let the extremely fine tuning begin if it matters…for a woods bike that’s good enough there for a track bike that’s just the beginning…
2023 lectron billetron has choke left side, stock cables work now, thumb screws to get slide off no tools to get to the metering rod. Pro version now has a low rpm metering circuit for even more low end and they do not claim better fuel economy bc now its making more power. Supposedly they are so good for single track and low rpm now they are buying back H series like -$250 credit towards move into Billitron. Ehtanol in fuel is increasing and jets are becoming more of a problem than ever. Took my pwk off that was sitting for 5 weeks and the fuel left in jets were already gelling up...trash. unless your racing and/or running ethanol free sunoco or vp doesnt seem worth babysitting jets. On top of that there are now china man fake Keihins floating around from amazon and fleabay kids are putting them on bikes and gocarts thinking they are # 'winning' saving $200 over a real keihin....just spend 600-700 and ride. Kids dont wanna learn to jet when other kids are wasting them on $5k surron electrics having fun lol.
As a guy who has a 2stroke start up for a ringtone , nothing sounds better then a perfectly jetted 125
Man, that pop is addicting.
viewers that thumbs down this video are the ones that bought that 500+ dollar carb for no reason lmao...
I have the same 39mm ran it on my 310 and now it’s on my 390 that led built me best carb I’ve found yet!
Keihin does classify the pilot jet as a pilot jet. On the schematics etc
I have had no issues making my kehin make power love them!
Ive tuned on a ton of different two strokes over the years, and your explanation of the difference between the sounds of lean or rich was spot on. They make pwk 28,33,35,39,41. Ive had them all. Meaning the compression was too high? Just keep milling that head? :)
I knew nothing about carbs, now I feel I have a great understanding.
Your sound effects are on point.
Oolo+9
nice tip on the plugs, I always do plug chops with a crappy plug
I know exactly who said "take that fucking thing off" also my favorite engine builder
I want biggest altitude range. I wonder how the new billetron differs from the older gen lectron like the sled carbs? should you just get billetrons?
Raise the needle on the clip makes it richer (lowering it makes it leaner) (if blubbery on bottom you can lower the clip one notch).
Keihin is the easies to tune long time motocross bike rider (never cared much for Mikuni carbs) - but KTM is now TPI on Enduro and cross country race bikes (except for the SX version) -
I agree I have had several cr250s and 500s never had carb issues
I had a 38mm pwk kehine carb spent weeks trying to jet it, watches hundreds of videos on carbs and how to tune never was able to get it. I found the lectron carb and also watched hundreds of videos on it and it was supposed to help exactly what was wrong and it did after a little bit of work
Has anyone run the Lectrons on a Banshee?
You are very Knowledgeable,, from experience , And REAL world “teeth in the pavement” research LOL 😂 ; thanks for the great VIDJA’s
Great Video...if you still have the Lectron I'm interested. Love the vids long live the 2 stroke!
Miss the dump truck 🚚 😪 stuff

Thanks Justin u helped me out more then u 🤔 think ! 🤘
Have a question though that doesn’t make since to me
I need to hear you do that lean sound again about 4xs in a row. Soo I can cross reference that sound on my bike...😄

what about the newer billatron it definitely performs better than the h series lectron
why don’t you like the short body keihin? the long body doesn’t fit on a lot of bikes
You sound and talk like justin dow..brothers from another mother😂👍
Ya gotta get a smart carb and test one of those.
Has anyone made a 10 hour loop of Justin's intro?
You don't use the correct spark plug heat range and full throttle runs with throttle chops to select the main jet?
Did you learn anything here? :)

How much for th lectron
I feel like lectrons are for people who can’t tune a 2strk
Ppl like me...
or people who ride in the mountains and go from 5000 feet too 13000 feet in elevations i run smart carb i jet bikes Daily
Have you talked to Jeff Slavens ? He helped develop the lectron and has a shop out west. He used to be a engine mechanic for multiple factory teams.
I know the inventor of lectron and he also designed and invented the smarts carb! There's a booming market if u fide above sea level. Lol 😆

I'm building a trx450r....I'll take the lectron bro...big fan of you
Hey Driver at the hoilday inn come fix the shower water pressure...lol
You have to get lectron through packard racing !! He sets it up for u perfect.

Yes they will work great on a 50. Thats what my brother runs... however, the harley super D seems to work really well too.
Dam right brother good video thanks for this video gonna help a lot of folks

My Lectron went great ! ( on Market place :) )
KEIHIN39🇵🇭👍😊
Yeah there's nothing worse than putting 20 grand into a 250R and burning it up the first time out
I prefer mikuni carbs
