For a brief little run there, I was afraid MTECH had joined us in the real world, and "Terrible Knives" videos were a thing of the past! But, you kept plugging along, and restored my faith that some knives just runneth over with terriblity.

The writing on the flag knife is the Preamble to the United States Constitution. The Declaration of Independence begins "when in the course of Human events, it becomes necessary..."
I've missed these videos a lot. If Mtech ever starts using real blade steel and figures out how to do a detent correctly, they may one day move up to Camillus levels of "bad but not terrible."

After starting on a Gerber paraframe, I graduated to a Smith&Wesson. I thought they were a well known company, so they'd make a good knife.... I was very wrong. The lock bar travelled completely over the blade tang. It locked up, but could only be unlocked with the help of a penny being used as a lever on the liner lock.

Lol at the smith and Wesson being a POS. They make great firearms so you’d think their knives would be good, but you’d be wrong. I made the mistake of buying one once. It looked cool but I dropped it one day and it broke in like 3 different ways. Complete garbage.

6:55 Those text are in deed in Chinese, somewhat deformed (as in compressed horizontally), but still recognizeable.
It says "红色营火", meaning "Red Campfire", which corresponds to the tent icon to the left.

WOW, the dragon knife!!! One of my friends has one and he carries it almost every day. Same knife but with a red dragon. He has had it for at least 7 or 8 years. It's got a pretty wobbly blade but still locks well. He has some good knives but I think he carries this just to spite me and other friends that carry expensive knifes. He calls it the knife that saved China! Don't throw that one away, it might actually be magic. I can't explain how else it has lasted so long.

That's called a trench shovel. It's a fairly useful tool when made with a good steel. Of course there are higher quality versions. Cold steel offers one that is not foldable but much higher quality I am sure.
Russian special forces supposedly carry shovels like that for use as a tool/melee weapon. They are pretty versatile, tbh.

    • @karvast5726
      @karvast5726 2 года назад

I find that the ones from surplus stores, the used military issue kind is always good quality steel wise even if the technology is kind of outdated weight wise for example, but it's a lot cheaper than a modern one of similar toughness.

The weird part is, I remember being around 8 or 9 years old and looking at tons of knives. I remember riding my bike to all the different stores and outlets to look at knives. I remember something like 90% of knives having designs and metal that even as a child, I could just tell it was horrible crap. I then found a used Leatherman at a yard sale down the road were a Old man sold me a Leatherman for next to nothing. I could tell it made him happy to pass it on to me. I appreciated its quality and the old man because I knew he did me a big favor. I took that Leatherman on so many adventures as a kid. I remember using the saw to notch vines for water because we seen it in some 80's action movie. Worked great. 🤣👍

I own the extreme hawkbill shown at 1:23:00 and use it regularly. I bought is specifically because curved sickles are difficult to find nowadays and I need something to cut weeds and tall grass around my house. Mine is the plain edged assisted flipper version, marked as AUS-6. Whether that's true or not, it works very well in the role of a grass cutter.

I also share a fascination with terrible knives, though unfortunately I can’t afford to amass a large collection of them. I love going to small little shops in semi-remote places just to see what absurdity I can find.
Sometime around last thanksgiving when I went to the general store in Drummond Island Michigan, I came across an unbranded cheap knife that just blew me away. This wasn’t terrible by any meaning of the sense, it was a chunky spring assisted $12 folder that ended up replacing my Gerber Stag Stockman knife as my edc blade. The knife has really nice construction and features none of the usual errors knives of its price point tend to carry. Despite it having an unnamed steel type, it preformed very well in cutting, sharpening, and holding an edge. It’s just an overall shocking knife, I’d’ve easily payed $60+ for it; it was such a steal.
(I’m pretty sure it was assembled in the US, which may have contributed to it, but it was still very impressive.)

That is a weird version of the military trench shovel. That really is similar to how they really are designed. You can find them in any army and navy considering they see actual military use. Oh and that M&P is actually an automatic. A very low budget version, but that button will actually deploy the blade. Low quality all around though.

1:28:00 reminds me of Gordon Freeman’s H.E.V. Mk2 suit from the Half Life games. Knowing the competence of the scientists in Black Mesa, that was the knife Gordon had in the chamber, and it indeed caused the malfunction in the anti-mass spectrometer that inevitably led to the resonance cascade. That’s my new head cannon for the Half Life series, and it’s why Freeman prefers to use a crowbar as his all-purpose EDC blade.

You can find a lot of real shitty knifes on offer up. But there are some gems too. Found this “knife collection” for sale, original price was $70.
Description: 2 all black knifes military issue
The others are all well known blade companies like tac-force , Mtech and Smith & wesson blue knife has been sold but the rest remain for $40.
That blue knife was a benchmade 477-1 Emissary with the aqua blue aluminum handle…

I must strongly disagree that the rat2 is better than any of the terrible knives. I have one that fell apart in only a few months of moderate use. The blade won't stay closed, clip is always coming loose and one of the thin teflon washers ripped. Blade is made well, but the rest is lacking. Really no better than a frost or mtech. I love these terrible knife videos, very fun to watch.

Nick, wonderful video as always. M-Tech, although terrible, seems to possibly put out a better product than S&W (at times). Some of their fixed blades look to be "dare I say" usable. I do own a fixed blade M-Tech (friend of mine got it for me because he knew I like knives-I need to look for better friends lol), but it does seem pretty solid. Thanks for sharing the "bad & ugly" helps us to appreciate the "good" that much more.
