This Scherzo of Brahms became incredibly special for me from the first time I've heard it with Henryk Szeryng. Brahms was completely himself from the very beginning. Of course, he had his period of learning, but he was always Brahms. I don't regard it as a competition because it is not what art is meant for, but I don't know of any composer who is closer to me than Brahms. So it is a marvel to listen to these two great performers.

Joseph JOACHIM was a friend of Johannes BRAHMS, and played with CLARA SCHUMANN. My Ancestor Friedrich LIST was the best friend of Robert SCHUMANN.
True! I came to RUclips after discovering Kavakos-Wang interpretation of this piece in Spotify. When I heard Maxim's playing, I first felt it's a little bit slowed but in the end, I love both interpretations by Kavakos and Maxim ❤️

this was one of those pieces where the piano accompaniment actually made it twice as hard cuz this song is a bitch with syncopated or offset rhythms where the piano could be going 2/2 while the violin is going 3/2 or something I dont even remember. it was just a pain in the ass. (but worth it in the end)

I love this tempo. Realizing that this is a scherzo, I still think most violinists play this too fast.
Yes, faster than this and it just sounds rushed. Many (amateur) violinists don't realise what the piano has to achieve technically as well.
