Drosera flower dissection and cross pollination part 1

  • In this video I show you some of the basic sexual pieces of Drosera flowers, the yellow anthers which produce the pollen, and the pink lobes of the stigma which receives the pollen. The pollen actually germinates a tube traveling about 1.5 centimeters, before it is received by the eggs or (unfertilized seeds).
    If there is no ripe pollen, you can either leave the unripe anther inside the flower you plant to cross it with, and the pollen will mature inside the closing flower. Or you can keep the anther and wait for pollen to emerge on the surface, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.
    In part two we'll take a look at the seeds, ovaries, and the places where the flower connects with the stalk.

    can i cross pretty much any drosera with any other drosera?

      Actually no, I might go over that in a future video! Many cannot be crossed and many can create seeds, but the seeds will never germinate.
