Here the xi values are very big,so step deviation or assumed mean will make calculations easier...

The class interval is 45-50, here '-' symbol denotes the word 'to' that is 45 to 50.
But to find class size h ,we do upper limit - lower limit hence h= 50-45= 5.
Here '-' sign denotes subtraction.
