  • Paco, Jordan, and I went to Cloudcroft, New Mexico to ride the northern segment of the Rim Trail (T105). Cloudcroft is 40 minutes away from Holloman Air Force Base and 30 minutes away from Alamogordo.
    The Rim trail (T105) is located south of cloudcroft and extends down to the Sacramento Road. The trail is over 30 miles long, however, you can ride them in segments using one of the many access points.
    We took High Altitude shuttle service which brought us to Parking lot 5 which is 12.5 miles away from Cloudcroft. Parking lot 5 gives you access to the northern segment of the Rim trail.
    This single track will take you up to 9100 ft of elevation then back down to 8500 followed by a climb back up to almost 9000. This 12 mile trip accumulated about 1400 ft of climbing but also 2,000 ft of descent. This trails has bursts of fun downhills including a 2 mile long downhill section. Surprisingly we only encountered a few hikers and bikers throughout this segment of the trail.
    Checkout High Altitude Store in Cloudcroft:
    They have outdoor adventure gear and so much more. The store is packed with big brands, hand picked goodies, and as much local flavor as they can fit in their little space.
    Info on High Altitude’s Shuttle service:

    OPTIONS: Choose drop off points of either Alamo Peak, (12.5 mile, 2-4 hour ride time) or Russia Canyon (8.5 mile, 1.5-3 hour ride time) back to Cloudcroft. This beautiful single track trail will challenge and amaze you with it's high alpine riding and amazing views of White Sands National Park and the Tularosa Basin. Not recommended for beginners. also that reminded me of when I was biking in Colorado and moved a tree out of the trail👍

      Colorado is known for knocked down trees on the trail. It’s so windy there. On top of that, winter storms will do more damage. I remembered the Colorado trail was closed because of all the knocked down trees after one storm.

    You guys were hustling down the trail. Great riding. Your drone work is so on point. As always a great story told. Thanks for sharing the way you do. Stay safe.

      The trail had so much flow, it was so easy to open up. What’s nice about flying here is the airspace is less restrictive since it’s far away from any major airport or base. I get way more opportunity to capture drone moments. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Dave. What was your favorite trail to ride in this area?

    • @DavePFilms
      @DavePFilms  Год назад

      Within the cloudcroft area, it would be the rim trail. However, it does take some logistical planning when it comes to shuttling. Unless you would ride up and back. Second would be Bailey Canyon. Very flowy trail.

    what kind of drone do you use? Is it a DJI?

    • @DavePFilms
      @DavePFilms  Год назад +1

      I used the Dji Mini and FPV. Majority of the time the Dji mini. You get more cinematic shots and way easier to carry around. Do you own a drone or interested in getting one?

    • @jp_carbon10

      @@DavePFilms My Dad owns a DJI Mavic Mini. But it's hard to find places where you can fly them.
