The details that y'all talk about with internal/external rotation, drishti, and all the "What not to do"s are SO HELPFUL. The details on *what* to focus on in the asana as a beginner are really helpful as well! Thank you both!
wow the thing about not going straight for the shin or knee and grabbing the toe even if the leg is bent really helped me today! ive practiced for years and always felt that i either had to grab the knee (no improvement ever) or try to straigthen my leg but compromise the whole pose, and i thought grabbing the toe and not straightening made no sense but today i just held that pose with all the rest of the pose straight and i could really feel all the work my leg and hip flexor muscles were doing, definitely practicing this way from now on, thank you!
I see that although I have been practicing for years, I have so much to learn, still. It is a happy and unsettling thought at the same time. But I feel that I am on a constructive path. Thank you both ♥️
Thank you very much for your great work with these videos. Can you explain how to work with the legs (cuadricpes, knee, foot) in the standing and sitting postures of the Ashtanga Primary Series?
A tough pose but so much good work in it. I really feel it in my quad holding up the leg at the end. For me as well it's a good measure of the progression of flexibility in my body as I can plainly see how much higher I can lift my legs compared to a year ago. This is one of the most interesting asanas to me. I would like to see a tutorial on Purvattanasana, my most detested posture
Thank you Jelena for mentioning at the end the turned out feet. I am conscious that I do that and have not been able to correct it because I have tight hips and trying to point the toes forward almost twerks my standing knee.
Thank you for the tutorial! Couple questions. 1. standing leg, can it be bend a bit? Is it right or wrong? 2. The last part, holding the leg strait without hands, how/what to do to raise it higher? I'm practicing for 10 years (once a week), but this leg is still 20 cm from the floor since the day one, no improvement whatsOrEver. Should I contract/relax/feel any particular part of my leg muscles? If you already have a tutorial for both those questions, please, point on it. :) Thank you very-very much.
❤ You guys are amazing. Can we have video how to improver the hip flexors strength to attually hold leg up straight first please. I can balance but I am not strong enough to straighten that leg without holding the toe. ❤❤❤ Thank you
Thanks!! This is the most challenging pose for me. 2 years ago, I could balance and do it (nor perfect) but with flow. This year, I have been practicing the last 3 months with NO balance, and I had to start all over again with this pose... What happened? I don't know. My teacher never gets stressed and simply tells me to take it easy, "Do it as a child playing." Do not think the posture that much, and that advice helps me 😊
Thank you for these tutorials. If you haven't already could you please do one on parivrtta parsvakonasana(revolved side angle). I don't know if I revolve enough but my arms always feel awkward. Or maybe I'm not low enough. A tutorial would be nice to see. Thank you.
Thank you guys! I'm going for my first ashtanga teacher training this summer (very excited and a bit scared) and your videos are great preparation. Personally, I would love to see a video about hopping through - with my short arms and long legs it seems pretty impossible (but is it?).
Good tips on balance for what is currently probably my worst posture in primary series!🦩My sense of balance is really affected by travel and my surroundings… I can do this pose at home, but in a shala with other people, it’s tricky and difficult, particularly in the past year or so for some reason.🤔🙈😅
I was actually going for the easy pose, even though I learned it the hard way in class. I was always wondering why should I stand there hunched over with a not straighten leg and having my teacher hold me😂. So back to that difficult pose, because the easy why isn’t really fun! Thanks for pointing it out so clear! I have a question about first series, I do not understand when it starts, as you say it starts with that Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana?
You did not point the toe in the first bit? I thought the leg needs to go into the hip socket and the toes need to be pointed when touching the knee? It's confusing cause people have different approaches to it.
As a yoga teacher and 10yrs Ashtanga Yoga.practicioner, 20yrs hatha yoga, with science background, I strongly disagree with you: 1. When you say don't use strap! Why hands to leg ratio is different for every body, hence the force and effort use to bring foot up is same you can use with strap. People can build flexibility on conditioning exercises, it's a delusion to "practice and all is coming" used for the series. It doesn't magically happen. Especially within a 5 breath cycle. 2. Stability is key, so hands to shin fine, as they build all the anatomical engagements to hold and balance. Out of that, great tutorial
Love the teaching style of David and demonstration by Jelena.
Me too!
I love the way she says I am Yelena , so cute...
The tip is really helpful❤
Growing with you, thank you :)
These asana videos are a gift. Thank you both so much!
Hi, Thank you, I love your videos. Would it be possible for you guys to do the tutorial on kapotasana ?sendings blessings!❤❤❤
This is the hardest pose from the half primary for me. Balance is hard, but straight leg is even more harder. My pose is something like David showed 🤭
Vinyasa nerds are happy with this. Great video as always.
I love how you call it a feedback loop 😊
Thanks ❤
I hope I can be in your studio , and work with you
Thank you for yours precious service 🎉 hope to meet you next year. ❤

Thanks for the modification suggestions ! I’ve been waiting for this one !
Please have a workshop in the south of Sweden🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾❤️

Hey 👋
Well brought out demo...
👏👏👏
I see that although I have been practicing for years, I have so much to learn, still. It is a happy and unsettling thought at the same time. But I feel that I am on a constructive path. Thank you both ♥️
Sooo glad I have met both of you in Milan. Your tutorials and workshops are the best!!! All the very best! ❤ 🙏

Love! Love! Love!❤
Great video! I appreciate y'all! can you talk about this pose as a gateway? or do a video on gateway poses in general?
Love your instructions. Good for my practicing
Thank you very much for your great work with these videos.
Can you explain how to work with the legs (cuadricpes, knee, foot) in the standing and sitting postures of the Ashtanga Primary Series?
Love how open Jelena is to admitting that some things are still not the easiest for her 9:14 🩶
makes me feel less crappy about my practice 🤣

Nice explanation love you both ❤
Man I was sure you were both stoned at the start, but eventually you both got up to normal speed. Very helpful as always, Thanks : ) 🙏

Your videos are great!!!
Love your tutorials, I would love to see some tutorials on transitions like Utkatasana and Virabhadrasana 💖
Love your videos! I learn so much😍
Thank you! I'm having a hard time in this Asana, so this video is perfect! ❤😊
What's the focus on the side variation ? Are you still trying to lift the leg as high as you can or do you focus more on opening to the side ? 🤔

Як завжди чудове відео ❤
А ще змінився звук і стало помітно що у вас є оператор😑
sadly I'll need extra 2 breaths to keep balance between sat & sapta(and 2 extra between pancha & sat too) :(
