    Great video, and congratulations on finishing your first ultra! If I may offer some advice; speak positively to yourself early on. Try not to comment on how brutal a climb is, or how hard a technical section of trail is. When negative thoughts start creeping in, do your best to immediately think of something positive. "This trail is brutal, but I fkn got this!" These races are all about mindset! Welcome to the Ultra Club!

    Awesome content! I'm also a bigger guy (6'3" 210) and keep getting told longer distance runs aren't for me - inspiring to see people proving the haters wrong.

    Bro… back in the day of days of pagers, look them up I’m 55. The number #1-4-3” was code for “i love you” (1 letter 4 letters 3 letters). I’m thinking it’s a bit of a trail gods karma blessing for you to get that number in your first ultra. Keep that bib nice and framed. Congrats on finishing.

      The race volunteer who convinced me to try ultras started running in his 60s, and did his first ultra just before 70, and was still doing them in his 70s. You've got this!!

    The carb load for ultramarathons is harder than people realize. Lol. I always feel HUGELY bloated, but it pays off.

    Awesome job!! What was final elevation gain? Seen about 8k on ultrasignup, that is crazy for 1st 50k esp. in mid May (warm)! I've done about 8-10 50k's and still trying to figure out the nutrition thing with going fast?! Usually hit the wall and hang on from 25 mi. on.

    • @coachcodysmith
      @coachcodysmith  Год назад

      I don't remember and tried to look it up for you. the "total ascent" in my Garmin Log was 7,750ft
      As far as Nutrition - Salt and Electrolytes were huge for me. A good carb load before is a game changer. I went for about 750 carbs the day before and had a gel every 30 minutes for the entire race on top of hitting the aid stations often

      The only race I ever had GI issues on was the trail marathon where I tried gels every 45 minutes, instead of every hour or two. Never... again. 😆 Give me quesadillas, peirogis, and Mac n cheese any race! 😂
