My g/f has one hell of a time with the infinity loop. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. She always wants to turn it into a baton while she spins, losing her grip. Playing like it belongs in the fingertips and not the palm. 1:44 Thanks for reminding me about guiding with the thumb. Sometimes when you get used to doing, you forget the basics when it's time to teach. Teaching is the best way to be sure you have learned. This will help. 2:36 I recognize the value in returning to the basics, day after day. I appreciate your work. 14:44 I stand corrected. 17:20 Three coats of stain, many coats of tung oil on Poplar has prevented me from smashing through the lanai doors. Too light to cause too much accidental damage.
In time, I will have the White Oak, and the Hickory. 19:45 I am provided a hook on a short strap when collecting carts for a grocery. The hook helps you control the carts, as you stack them for return to the store. The hook, on a strap with a loop for the wrist makes it an incredibly effective tool.
21:28 My Grandmaster never liked to teach sweeps. Falling techniques, yes. Sweeps, or knocking a man down, who cannot fall correctly can easily kill him when he smacks the back of his skull against a hard surface. With sweeps and takedowns, what was a contest, accidentally became a homicide. I don't see a whole lot of grapples in real life. Shoves on to a subway track, a push down the stairs, knocking an older or weaker person to the ground to steal and escape. Who wants to grapple unless they feel secure raping? Thieves and murderers should stay on their feet, like any predator. To escape reprisal of the herd.

Matt, my girlfriend is shouting at me as I have just cut the head off the broom to use a Bo staff lol 😃 Really loving your tutorials and I really glad that I have learned self-defence from your tutorials to help defend myself from girlfriend lol 🙂

Hi Matt, your videos are wonderful. Your advice takes me back over 40 years to my childhood when I learnt Karate then moved into Judo and Jujutsu. You share the same values and foundations to your teachings as my mentors, but you have much better teeth. I think they must have lost more fights than you lol 😁

Hi Matt, Would like to see a recent video putting fighting skills together... blocks, strikes, parties. Transitions from one move to another. You seem to have done some of these years ago, but nothing recent for the bo. Best, LB

Yet another car jacking attempt in my region. Victim was actually pulled out of his work van .luckily he was not hurt but was left absolutely terrified I cannot imagine having to feel that helpless and defenseless. I'm definitely gonna keep practicing and on my next day off I will spend the day making weapons .

Hi Matt, i would like to use the Bo, but with it's length, i probably will have control issues due to my wrist arthritis condition. Still using the 7/8 in. Jo and always faithful to your videos, especially when i unfortunately miss the online classes, and practice while watcing. (Instruction Experience: ( Self Defense Assistant Instructor) -STATE LAW ENFORCEMENTACADEMY, ( at the request of retired FBI self defense instructor for basic recruit state certification, 1974/ Instructor for my CITY POLICE POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY (State Mandated} at the request of police recruits, 1977.) The only reason i add the above information, is to show i totally agree with the quality, yourOnline Dojo. Thank You, Doug Boal.
