I get really giddy realizing that it might actually be possible for me to play something like this. Thanks so much for making these videos showing how to play the classic solos. They are really the main things I always wanted to learn!
Great tutorial! Just picked up a sax for the first time yesterday and im already playing this quite well! Still need to work on that intro roll to C# though, Thanks Nigel!
I've seen this before :) Thanks for the re-upload. Personally for me I'd like it if you showed the finger positions closer to the camera, I'm a keyboard player and am just getting my head around the transposition and fingering! Would be nice to have a bit more detail in where the notes actually are on the sax (for us beginners) :) ..But amazing vid anyway! Many thanks
Hi - that's a great suggestion. Check out Sax School on my website for loads of other lessons (link above). I'll put New York New York on my to-do list! N
Please could put the complete song, because there is only one part of the song,Put the music notes, make a complete video, I would love to play this song, thank you

Hi, I just started playing alto sax and when I play this song it sounds much lower in pitch than when you play it. How can i fix this and sound more like it is supposed to be?
Is there any video, where they guide, to different sounds, i can do that clean sound and that crowling sound, but i seek that great sound, what they use example in smooth jazz.
Hi. Having an idea of what sound you want is the most important first step. Check out which mouthpiece and reed combination your favourite player is using and experiment with something similar. Checkout my sax mouthpiece lesson in Sax School (link in the video notes). Free 7 day trial available. Good luck!
I play the saxaphone to and I'm a beginner less than a month ago I had a the same exact problem here a few things to make sure, Good posture, Edge of seat, make sure reed has not cracks, Ligrature tight, and make sure your mouth is wet when your making a D make sure your mouth is your mouth is up to the Ligrature. Welcome
Thanks +M_Aparicio ! I filmed this lesson a while back when I was using a metal Yanagisawa size 9 mouthpiece and Vandoren 2 1/2 "blue box" reeds. I have now changed to a Theo Wanne Gaia hard rubber size 8 with Rico Jazz Select size 2 1/2.
Can you give a direct link to the PDF? I can't find it. That makes me think you want me to get lost and give up and just subscribe, but if you had an easy link to the PDF and it worked out well, I'd actually be much more inclined to subscribe.
I was just trying this on my tenor last night, but I found I was one note short of the top note. I would glis up to my F, then I guess I was lipping it up to bring it to F#, Concert E, then going back down I was lost and flat, because all my notes were lipped off key. Had to get a piano in front of me to figure it out. Found out I have to start on a concert E. There's a front F fingering for that F# on tenor that I can easily hit, but I lost the easy glis into it. I guess this riff is always played on an alto.
hi nigel, i'm a beginner on the alto sax. I think i have a problem with it. It's hard for me to blow it, sometimes it sounds "squeaky" when the sax's reed is wet (because of spittle and breath). Is there any tips for me to decrease the spittle when i blow it?
even though i dont have a saxophone . still want to learn playing saxophone cuz everytime i heard a people playing saxophone i can't do not listening to it :))
Hi, I'm a beginner on the tenor sax and I've never played an alto. I want to learn to play the alto as well. I'm leaving college soon and I've been there for a while, so I plan on doing Sexy Sax Man Style prank during an assembly when everyone is in one room at 8:30am as something for the people there to remember me by after I leave. Betwen now and the summer, do you think I'll be able to pick up an alto sax and get Careless Whisper to a high enough standard to pull off this prank? And how often would you say I should practice? I play my tenor almost every day.
Hey Nigel....I'm new to the sax and I'm not sure how tight to make the ligature. It doesn't seem to want to stay on the mouthpiece. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to tighten the screws so it stays on the mouthpiece and not "walk" up reed? Thanks.
My left ear really enjoyed this
LMAO
IAmMrCasper why your left ear why not both lol
because the video only plays in your left ear XD
Same
Same 😂 but my right earbud stopped working 😂
Never too late to start!

Cool, thanks! (: i don't speak too much english, so is difficult to me understand your musical vocabulary, but i'm trying.
When I do the glissando I tend to run it G-A-B all natural right into the c# and I think it sounds the same if you can't get the whole glissando in
Please could put the complete song, because there is only one part of the song,Put the music notes, make a complete video, I would love to play this song, thank you

Is the octave key down the whole song?
Make sure you're on Sax School and not Sax Shop, and then click on Documents and Downloads.
Can you give a direct link to the PDF? I can't find it. That makes me think you want me to get lost and give up and just subscribe, but if you had an easy link to the PDF and it worked out well, I'd actually be much more inclined to subscribe.
Can this song be played using the Front E.
hi cant seem to find the PDF files that Nigel mentions ,, can anyone help me???

How do I add vibrato to the saxophone?
Hello Ian, being new to sax, is it possible you can make it clear when you are using the octive key. Thank you.

Where's the pdf?
I'm sure it's in Dm, not Bm?
When you start to explain the starting notes you correctly said d, e, fsharp...then later you just said f. Just a small observation ;)
