    Totally avoided the question: how can someones death and resurrection day vary from year to year. Like saying your birthday changes each year depending on the fase of the Moon. Not the actual day you were born. He simply shows the movement of the Earth and Moon in relation to the Sun.

      Easter seems random and arbitrary, but that's because we use a solar annual calendar. If we used a lunar calendar Easter would be "Sunday of the week that begins on or after the 15th of the 3rd month" where that is the lunar month when the northern spring equinox happens before the 14th. To this day we keep special days that change their dates every year such as Bank Holiday Mondays or Mother's Day.

    Good illustration. I clearly see how the new moon and full moon work. The stars, moon and sun are for signs. “And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights-the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.”

As Easter was formulated at a time when the southern hemisphere was largely unknown, I wonder how this festival celebrating increased light, resurrection of nature and new growth applies to the southern hemisphere where Easter occurs after the Fall Equinox, (although after the full moon and Sunday, as in the northern hemisphere)?

    I know I'm late, but Easter is not dependent on being after Passover at all. Easter was 23 March in 2008 and 27 March in 2016. In the current Metonic cycle, the 1st day of Nisan is never earlier than March 12, whereas the Christian equivalent lunar month begins on March 9 in 2008 and 2027, and on March 10 in 2016 and 2035, so Easter is guaranteed to be earlier than Passover in those years (and it's generally a month earlier when it is).

  • @acousticdrivers
    @acousticdrivers 8 лет назад +6

    WRONG!
    Passover is not determined by the equinox, thats the pagan way to determine a pagan easter. Thats why easter and passover is about 1 month apart in 2016.
    Passover is determined by the Barley is Abib as is stated in the Bible.
    (Deuteronomy 16:1)
    Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the LORD thy God:
    for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of
    Egypt by night.

      Acousticsdriver is right.
      Passover was a type of “renewal” ceremony as “firstborn sons” was a euphemism for that family’s success in future heirs/lineage. Any unbelieving Jews who did not mark their doors would have suffered the same fate as the gentile Egyptians. Therefore, after Passover, the Jewish families were blessed with fruitful inheritance (since they now had a head start on their Egyptian counterparts).
      Understanding this concept allows you to understand that the month of Abib happened during a comparable time as the resurrection of Christ. The Jewish people were freed from captivity and given blessings to thrive and that is exactly what happened after the resurrection of Christ.
      It also makes sense when you compare the sense of a year to the sense of a day.

    • @PopeLando
      @PopeLando Год назад

      In 1582 the Catholic church was anxious that Easter should not move too far from the Vernal Equinox. The rule to calculate Easter was, not that the full moon must be after the Vernal Equinox, but it must be on or after March 21, a specific calendar date. However because the Julian calendar was too long, the spring equinox was moving backwards in the year, away from March 21. To fix the problem Pope Gregory XIII snipped 10 days out of the calendar and introduced a new calendar rule that kept March 21 to be within a day of the equinox. In addition the moon's phases had shifted over the course of 1,200 years so that the tabular position of the full moon was several days later than the actual full moon. So the new way of calculating the new moon started by changing the first number in the table from 8 to 1, and a new rule to account for the moon phase shift as well as the new calendar rule which drops a Feb 29th 3 times every 400 years. (The first value in the table is currently -1)

    • @PopeLando
      @PopeLando Год назад

      The Orthodox Easter keeps with the original rule for calculating Easter (that the first number in the table is still 8 and never changes) and continues to apply the rule to the dates of the Julian calendar, currently 13 days behind the Gregorian. This makes Orthodox Easter generally later than Gregorian. Orthodox Easter can happen as late as May in the Gregorian calendar, which was the situation that the Gregorian rules were introduced in order to avoid, specifically that at least 2 full moons pass after the actual astronomical Equinox before Easter is celebrated.

In regards to Easter it has to do with how the Hebrews viewed their calendar, all calenders are based on the movement of the sun/moon, looking at order. A bit before the turn of the millennium, the Syriac Church suggested changing this so as to actually follow what Nicaea instructs but the Byzantine Churches rejected unifying the date because, in the immediately ensuing years, it would too frequently correspond to the current Western system instead of theirs. Of course, this is because they follow an astronomically incorrect calendar but they don't care about that.
