Bella Clements actually I am a doctor it's possible to have your period During the pregnancy. But it's not really a. It's more of your vagina clearing itself for the baby
They jumped straight to awful illnesses for having an irregular period rather than telling people that many times it’s just stress. Like go to the doctor, but don’t panic immediately.
Tracey Lee Booth And when you're younger/when your period first starts, they are often irregular. That just made me ignore everything else they were saying
I feel y’all. I have gone two years without a period. Went to the doctor and had so many tests done, and turns out it was all the stress of starting college. I feel like they are scaring people who haven’t started their period or who have just started having irregular ones. This doesn’t seem educational at all. It just scares young girls.
Florides BB of course. I just wish they had said “It can always be simply stress, but some other factors could play into it. It’s best to see your doctor to be sure.” I just don’t want young girls to think they have these terrible illnesses or disorders, when that may not be the case. You know?
I think one of the reasons why they say "talk to your doctor" is because these kinds of problems can be very individualized and also just in general women's health is underfunded and under researched :/
Camille Voyage every time I have questions about the female reproductive system I find like 10 different potential answers to each question and all of them are from supposedly credible sources and I'm so annoyed because research about vaginas should be SO IMPORTANT and all I ever get is a bunch of loose ends
Camille Voyage so true. Would you imagine I saw a study looking at how the male partners of women with endometriosis felt about her condition...like hello, what about studying the intracacies of all we don't know for endometriosis instead ._. Just a thought. Who cares about how they feel? XD I think helping women with endometriosis takes preference there :')
It’s true you should talk to your doctor. And believe me I tried. It took me years to get a diagnosis because they wouldn’t take me seriously. It was a lot of internet surfing and finally getting the right doctor so I could figure out what’s wrong. I was diagnosed a few months ago with PCOS and I’m 18. Doctors don’t want to believe young people have problems apparently. One doctor basically told me I was crazy for worrying about it and I shouldn’t even concern myself till I want to start having children. Well if I didn’t concern myself I wouldn’t have found out that I am also diabetic because of the PCOS and I would have been running around with insulin resistance and had no clue.
Well, I don't really think that women's reproductive problems are under researched. There's a lot of journals about it, you can found thousand of journals discuss about menstrual disorders. And I think it's not because your doctor wouldn't take you seriously, but in some cases menstrual disorders that happen to women under 20 are related to hormonal imbalance because your body need some time to adjust with the hormonal changes after puberty. In some researches, they said that usually it takes about 3-5 years after your first period or menarche until your menstrual cycle became regular. But I think it's wrong for your doctor to say not to worry about it, you have right to worry about yourself. So yeah, if you want to know more about menstrual disorders or women's reproductive problems in general I suggest you to read journals that are available in NCBI or in any trusted sites or read OB-GYN textbook. (sorry for my english, english is not my first language)
Camille Voyage I know.. it's a requirement for woman yet men have no intention of even thinking about caring about this matter. Underfunded and under researched is exactly how to describe this problem.
Stop downplaying period pain! I've dealt with severe period related pain for most of my life. And all I ever heard from doctors was "It's just cramps you're overreacting" Turns out I indeed have problems with my uterus and needed to be put on medication! Ladies don't be afraid speak about it! There are good, caring doctors out there!
I was always told I'm overreacting and being dramatic when I get my period I get severe pain and I tried different painkillers but they don't work I'm in collage now and it's still bad but I get a bit more support that it's okay from my teachers but I used to take days of of school I didn't want to go cause I couldn't focus being told by someone who hasn't got it that bad who doesn't know is horrible it's bad if it's so painful it effects my education I felt depressed because of how people would be mean to me don't listen to other people who don't understand x
Sad that she said the vagina should not have a smell at all, that is not true! Obviously a strong odor could mean an infection or ph imbalance, but all vaginas have their own smell and some just smell a little more than others. I don't understand why there is such a stigma about it to the point that tampons are scented and we feel that "fresh scent" and flowery perfumes smell more natural. As long as you are staying clean by washing the labia with water/gentle soap and don't have a health condition, the smell of your vagina is normal and healthy.
Go to the doctor, because one symptom can mean multiple things and only a doctor can use instruments or anything else that can determine specifically ehat those symptoms mean instead of just shooting in the dark to what it means.
I’m disappointed that they missed several opportunities to bring up the fact that killer periods are never normal. This kind of dismissiveness is what causes women to suffer needlessly for an average of ten years before getting a proper diagnosis and treatment. If you are missing out on your life consistently because of your period, that’s A sign something is going on and shouldn’t be ignored as part of being a woman.
Yeah, when that one Dr. said that period cramps don't hurt as much as labor pains I was like "um, yeah actually that is my life". I'm so tired of the dismissive treatment I have received when I tell people that my period hurts more than labor. I had one nurse say to me "If you think your cramps are bad Sweetie just wait until you've had a baby" and I said "Well if you had actually read my chart you'd know that I already had one". I know my cramps are worse than (my) contractions because I've experienced both before. I gave birth to my son without drugs and my contractions were no where near as bad as some of my cramps. Sure, that might not be the case for everyone. My cramps might not be as bad as someone else's labor but that doesn't mean that I'm being dramatic or wimpy when I'm lying in the fetal position because I literally can not move.
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, it's so common but never talked about and honestly, most gynecologists don't know how to effectively treat it either
I think this video touches on a very serious topic. A lot of people can't afford health insurance, so there is no doctor to consult. In my case, I need need need a doctor specializing in woman's health but don't have the means of seeing one. My periods are very aggressive. I do have extremely heavy flows, they do push me past the point on exhaustion, they are very very painful, I do have bowel problems when I'm on it, i have to use both pad and tampon all at once to contain the flow, i have clots the size of a tampon at times,I wake up from 2-4 o'clock in the morning because the cramps are so severe I can't sleep. I eat so much otc pain medicine, it's eating holes in my stomach but there's nothing else that helps with the pain. I think woman's health doctors should be available to anyone and everyone regardless of health insurance. Woman's health is just as important as the overall health of any person.
Em Brady well... labor pain is pretty horrible. It feels extremely excruciatingly hot as if you keep getting burned from the inside out while someone is trying to rip your midsection apart.
"period cramps are not worse than labor, I know it seems like they are, but they aren't." Okay, but pain is subjective. Some women have no problem with giving birth, while other women have found it incredibly painful. went to a midwife who brushed off some pain i was having (we're talking doubled over in pain, sensitivity, thinking y uterus was going to fall out, couldn't walk, pelvic joints couldn't hold my weight) as "normal" round ligament stretching and told me to take a tylenol. Went to an OB, and she actually examined me and said "ah, yup. Your pelvic joints are dislocating themselves. You need to be going to physical therapy, and you need to be given strict work restrictions so you won't hurt yourself or your baby." I hate when medical professionals brush off patients questions. Just because YOU didn't experience it, doesn't mean the patient doesn't know their own limits of pain.
It is normal to not have regular periods when you're breastfeeding because of Prolactine hormone, some wemen don't have them at all untill they stop breastfeeding. I feel I am in labor pain every month so I am actually happy to hear that actual labor pain can be less or at least the same. I don't think I can handle anything worse
mermaidmakeup thank you haha, i have an older sister and she keeps telling me about cramps and other pain that she has to "suffer" during period. I didnt understand anything about period and also didnt know it would be this complex. Props to the channel who made this vid!
No one: Me getting up for school: My period: hi :D Me realizing that I have gym and I have to do all that running around and do all that stuff in gym we usually do: ;-;
PMS can actually be responsible for you being so tired, but sometimes it could mean you anemic. I use to lose so much blood during my period, the problem is that for me it was a normal amount. But after falling asleep once in my class, I told my mom about it. We went to my doctor, turns out I was anemic. But because of the amount of blood I lost.
When I get my period, I always go back to buzzfeed and watch these kinds of videos about periods and cramps. It’s so soothing, and calms me down from panicking of my horrible cramps and pains. Which helps big time, I get distracted and then learn about periods all over again.
My doctor wouldn't believe that my period has been irregular for a long time now, so I made notes of it, the longest I've gone without was 7 months. That was when my doctor finally referred me to get tested for PCOS.
I've had mine for nearly 5 years now and I've gone 6 months with having non. I have 3 periods a year. I've been referred for a blood test to see if anything is wrong, I never considered that I might have PCOS
Jade Hall mine are like that, someone on a different buzzfeed video told me that I should look at it and the symptoms and I did and it matched me perfectly. I would also ask to get tested for pcos while you're getting the blood test
Gummi-Bear Nikole I've had a look at the symptoms and I've only really got 2 maybe 3 of them. I did get my bloods tested but my doctors lost them 😩so I've got to go again Monday. I'll look into more though. Do you get chronic pain when you do get a period? And also do you feel nauseous because I sometimes am physically sick from them 😔
in 14 years i probably had my period 2 months in a row like 3 or 4 times, don't remember ever having it 3 months in a row lol. the longest i've went without one was probably 5~6 months but i was never bothered and never went to a doctor about because i don't have the time or money to go and no symptoms of anything that could be worrying so i'm living that life of getting pastries instead of period protection most of the year.
I'm glad this video was put up, it reminded me I'm not the only one having horrible cramps right now and bleeding like freaking Niagara falls. Also it was very informative.
Ummm? How can they know if that specific person's cramps are worse than labor pains? I know they're doctors and stuff, but everyone's cramps are different! Maybe her's weren't as bad as labor pains, but someone else's might be! I know someone who's appendix almost burst/did burst (can't remember) because she thought that if it wasn't as bad as her cramps then it's no big deal. Sometimes just because you haven't experienced it, it doesn't mean it can't happen.
How I describe period: Uterus wants a baby You don’t have a baby Uterus wants revenge How my friend (who’s a boy) describes a period: Punishment for being a woman
Getting on pill was the best decision EVER. My periods were so bad I couldn't get out of bed the first day, and the second was also terrible (but at least painkillers worked). Now I barely notice it
Birth control is actually addressing the issue, most of the symptoms are due to high hormone/estrogen levels, birth control regulates the hormone levels therefore your getting rid of the symptoms not masking them.
You can’t fix these issues unless you are put on oral counterceptives. There is no masking involved here. And if it’s not the pill, then you’ll be pumped full of some other hormone or metformin.
Vomiting from period cramps can also be a marker of several uterine diseases like polycistic uterine disease and endometriosis. Im kinda shocked they didn't mention any of that. Period cramps should only feel that bad and still be normal in puberty, when the body is going through changes.
These people always freak me out so much, "why is my period irregular?" "Well, you could have this horrible condition, or this horrible condition" how about maybe you're just young and haven't had many periods yet, in the beginning it can be very irregular. Or how about stress!
I have PCOS with heavy bleeding and it almost cost me my life. I had to go to the hospital for 2 blood transfusions and later on I almost had to get another one. I’m still not the same as I used to be
Pink N Purple I think it's because your doctor would know your history. You really can't expect a doctor who doesn't know your whole history to effectively help you.
I highly recommend downloading the free app "eve". You can track your cycles and mood everyday and talk to other period having folks on threads/forums through the app. Really helpful
The OB/GYN was caring and pleasant. The endocrinologist was less warm and fuzzy but her answers got an A+. Luckily my GYN/ONC is a combination of learned and kind.
I laughed at the period cramps aren’t worse than labour pains part. I was in labour for 2 1/2 days and can say my labour hurt less than period cramps. Even the nurse said to me that I was taking labour so well. I told her I had period cramps worse than this lol. It wasn’t a lie. For every women it’s different. I have PCOS.
Whenever I get my period my cats can’t get off me! It’s like I’m a magnet. It also happens the day before so when they are extra nice to me I know... ITS COMING

aw noo that sounds awful :/
I'm not sure if you are on the US or if you have one near you, but you can try Planned Parenthood as they can do exams for women as well.
Why is endometriosis not mentioned when your period is so painful! Thought doctors knew better!?
C. C. Notting Photographie right! it annoyed me that she just pushed off the worse than labour pain as not being true! x
C. C. Notting Photographie Endometriosis is just one of the several reasons for dysmenorrhoea. They couldn't possibly list all of the causes.
Prerana Modani thats true but she completely shrugged off all reasons and didn't give any!
It could also be due to how the video was edited
Em Brady well... labor pain is pretty horrible. It feels extremely excruciatingly hot as if you keep getting burned from the inside out while someone is trying to rip your midsection apart.

KamiltheCamel basically google
Because these things aren't easy to diagnose... Its safer and covering herself so people can't take this as a solid diagnosis.
Shut up. Period!
So many people don't want to ask their doctor questions, so I think they were trying to convey that it's okay to ask your doctor questions.

Conclusion: I hate the hormones. I hate my period. Period.
And also do you feel nauseous because I sometimes am physically sick from them 😔
Jade Hall I get so sick while I'm on or about to start my period. Tons of pain, migraines and nausea.
in 14 years i probably had my period 2 months in a row like 3 or 4 times, don't remember ever having it 3 months in a row lol. the longest i've went without one was probably 5~6 months but i was never bothered and never went to a doctor about because i don't have the time or money to go and no symptoms of anything that could be worrying so i'm living that life of getting pastries instead of period protection most of the year.
The first doctor is literally Anna Farris

I'm glad this video was put up, it reminded me I'm not the only one having horrible cramps right now and bleeding like freaking Niagara falls. Also it was very informative.
I can never tell when my period is over.
Sameeeeee it always comes back when I think I'm done with it it's really annoying and a lot of the time embarrassing 😧😳😡😰

How I describe period:
Uterus wants a baby
You don’t have a baby
Uterus wants revenge
How my friend (who’s a boy) describes a period:
Punishment for being a woman
The Gacha Wolf Gamer Girl dude stop stealing other people’s comments and not giving them any credit
Getting on pill was the best decision EVER. My periods were so bad I couldn't get out of bed the first day, and the second was also terrible (but at least painkillers worked). Now I barely notice it
My period certainly does not smell sweet.
Yeah if mine could smell like candy that would be nice☺
I’ve never had my period. I’m a healthy 25-year-old male. HALP!!!
You're a male. Males don't get periods.
@@carultch
You're joking aswell right?
I don't know of any biological male who has ever had a period. Our bodies aren't set up to have one.
@@carultch
Dude, the first comment was a joke. Of course men don't get periods
omg, visit your doctor asap
Bugs me that doctors are so quick to put you on birth control to cover up symptoms which you should be addressing and not masking
"periods are great, they're sign's you can have a baby"
...when did I say I wanted a baby...or periods ?
Vomiting from period cramps can also be a marker of several uterine diseases like polycistic uterine disease and endometriosis. Im kinda shocked they didn't mention any of that. Period cramps should only feel that bad and still be normal in puberty, when the body is going through changes.
Doctor: "Having a period is a passage to adult hood." Then can I stop getting one, Kay byeeeee
These people always freak me out so much, "why is my period irregular?" "Well, you could have this horrible condition, or this horrible condition" how about maybe you're just young and haven't had many periods yet, in the beginning it can be very irregular. Or how about stress!
My cat always lays on my stomach when I have cramps. Idk how he knows, but he does.
Hayden Levy I love your profile picture!!
When she said “Yes you could lose your life” I clicked off the video so quick😂
I have PCOS with heavy bleeding and it almost cost me my life. I had to go to the hospital for 2 blood transfusions and later on I almost had to get another one. I’m still not the same as I used to be
i got my period today what a coincidence!!!
same
Have fun....
Whitney Houston me too way!

short answer: I don’t know ask you doctor
Omg yesterday I had the biggest cravings I’d ever had. Had half a tube of Pringles, bag of pick n mix, and four potato waffles, then chocolate.
Isabel Reedman
dude same
My appetite is through the roof lol. I ate so many potatoes it's crazy.
I love that typing noise
Oh that's why my cat and my dogs starts coming next to me when I'm on my period.😅
That dark haired doctor: Talk to your doctor( says this almost in every answers )
Me: Ermm arent u a doctor?
Pink N Purple I think it's because your doctor would know your history. You really can't expect a doctor who doesn't know your whole history to effectively help you.
I heard her say “talk to your doctor” while I read ur comment
Key word - talk to *YOUR* doctor. She isn’t you own doctor that knows your history etc is she? Probably not.
That’s why she says it
Yet you're not talking to her, are you?
How many times she said, “talk to your doctor” 😂😂😂😂
👇🏻
Take a shot every time they say “hormones”
Take a shot every time they say "talk to your doctor"
I'm loving this series, very informative.

I highly recommend downloading the free app "eve". You can track your cycles and mood everyday and talk to other period having folks on threads/forums through the app. Really helpful

This is why we need to be taught this stuff in school!! We don't talk about periods enough and so so many women are clueless, like myself
The OB/GYN was caring and pleasant. The endocrinologist was less warm and fuzzy but her answers got an A+. Luckily my GYN/ONC is a combination of learned and kind.
Hormone hormone hormone....
My doctor said it’s normal for girls to have irregular periods
Telly Areli girls who are just starting their period but if you have had your period for years and starts to be irregular then that's not good
Maya Skowronski I’ve had my period for 2 and 1/2 years already and it’s still irregular. Should I consult with my doctor?
Describe this video in 3 Words: shift of hormones
Diekje see your doctor
It's your hormones 😂
I laughed at the period cramps aren’t worse than labour pains part. I was in labour for 2 1/2 days and can say my labour hurt less than period cramps. Even the nurse said to me that I was taking labour so well. I told her I had period cramps worse than this lol. It wasn’t a lie. For every women it’s different. I have PCOS.
i love how these two doctors counter each other in how they are mannerism wise but are still saying the same thing and are still just as credible
*Saw this 20 minutes ago 5 minutes after is on her period*
Is anyone else watching this on the first day of their period too?
Me too
Hello
This was very informative......
Disposable like pads and tampons also can make your period more painful, heavier, and for longer. Cups and cloth pads reduce all of those.
Dr Mike should really do this it's very helpful
So there is absolutely no odor during a period?
This video is making my cramps hurt more every time she says talk to your doctor 👎🏿
Weird side of the internet again..... But hey i love buzz feed lmfao 😂
Last day of my period!! Hallelujah
Whenever I get my period my cats can’t get off me! It’s like I’m a magnet. It also happens the day before so when they are extra nice to me I know... ITS COMING
And of course I’m on my period
What kind of keyboard makes that noise????
Brandon Taylor I take it you're quite young?
I had my first period a half a year ago and i haven't had it since.
Go to a doctor
I love the black doctor, how she explains everything it’s amazing lol
This was actually really useful, I just came here for entertainment I’m SHOCKED
