"We didn't expect Moose to be so popular"
*Moose stares directly in the camera while handling Dave's shaft*
Moose needs more camera time. He's a great addition.
Hilarious. Project Binky would be proud!
You should have used a gasket. It's not that big of a deal but since the diff bolts to the housing (instead of the diff being bolted IN the housing then theres just a cover that bolts on) that gasket provides a bit of spacing to locate the diff perfectly inline with the axel shafts. It'll be a little cockeyed, but you won't really notice it, the wheel bearings will just wear a little faster.
Measuring with moose. That made me laugh so much a little bit of wee came out.
hahaha same. I dont know how but DP makes these videos funny when they shouldn't be hahahaha
2JZ on a Bel Air?? You guys HAVE to make a video on that!!!
I'm doing a 2J in an E30.
In this episode Moose stuffs Dave's rear end with two shafts. Then he makes sure it's sealed tight with his caulk before pumping it full of "magic" fluid.
Keep up the good work! I really enjoy your worryless, relaxed, friendly style.
Man, the episodes keep getting better and better. Keep them coming!
love all the Celica videos you guys put out! Keep up the good work!
Thumbs way up for "Measuring with Moose"
Can't wait to see the new shop!
Just a FYI boys, I know it's said and done. But for future reference you don't flatten and spread RTV with your finger like moose did. It's a common mistake, Even per their instructions it tells your with liquid RTV gaskets is to lay a nice even bead around the surface. Apply the parts and screw to hand tight for 2-6 hours. Then tighten to spec and leave for 24hr to fully cure.
When you flatten with your finger it may be spread more in one area than another. And your finger actually collects a LOT of the rtv.
When you allow the parts surface to flatten it slightly before curing. Then allowing the cure to be put to spec it evenly spreads the rtv across most of the surfaces. Any voids or pits get filled in with the rtv which may be missed by letting your finger flatten and spread the rtv.
That said, keep on keeping on boys!! 👍
Nice!! Love the humour!!
I like the "Length matters when you're a stud" line 🤣 well played
Top episode boys. One of your best. Definitely more MOOSE!
Keep the good work, love that celica.
I wanna see Moose and Turbo Yoda in a boxing match.
This is rock solid content! Im subscribed now nice work. Moose is the man 😄
After the metric comment, I was half expecting Moose to call out the centering measurement in inches.
Moose needs his own show... Moose Academy
requesting a "measuring with Moose" ringtone please
Time to ding you on the rear housing seal job. :-D
1. You should ideally be using anaerobic sealant - that way you don't have to worry about it setting up too quickly, but it will set really quickly once it's actually bolted up.
2. Don't forget that the sealant should be around the inside edge, between the opening and the studs/holes. If you only seal around the edges (running the bead around the outside of the studs), the oil can still get to those studs and weep up to the surface.
I realise what you did isn't necessarily going to fail...but personally, I'd rather not take the chance on having to do it over - it really doesn't cost you a whole bunch more or take a huge amount of extra time, so worth the effort in my book. Looking forward to seeing Connie moving under her own power - soon! :-)
Was just gonna say this. I can already see it leaking from around the studs
The other lovely thing about anaerobic sealant is that if any squeezes out, it stays liquid, so cleanup on the outside is easy - and there's no chunks of sealant whirring around with the gears on the inside. :-)
Thanks for the feedback. We'll see if she leaks!
No worries, mate - I want to see Connie finished (as much as any project is finished, anyway) almost as much as you.
Btw, anaerobic sealant is also _really_ good for the oil pan - no worries about bits of cured sealant gumming up the oil pickup, which is always a relief. Now hurry up and get the old girl finished! :-D
hah, we'll have to try the anaerobic sealant next time we install an S2000 oil pan :D
In Australia they were nicknamed SillyCar
I am looking forward to seeing the rear parking brake setup. I have a 1999 Alfa Romeo GTV V6 and the rear calipers and parking brake are not great.
I can't believe you could get those oe parts!
Please make videos about the 2j bel air
seconded.
I'm doing a 2J E30
You got us on the Metric part...
measuring with moose should probably be an entirely separate channel, Guys. good vid.
Measuring with Moose should be official!!
I love this whole Celica pronunciation lol
Mooooose!
Holy shit 'Measuring with Moose' made me lose my shit! God I love Moose
Looks like moose got SHAFTED into doing all this work.......
The video went all Binky at the end with the cups of tea.
Chrisfix installed twin calipers in the rear of his mustang drift project.
a better axle would have been a mk1 supra for the rear disc brakes. its the perferred upgrade for ae86 owners. probably too hard to find or expensive for this project though
86 axel ASSEEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBLLLEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
That cut out of moose eating!!!!! HAHAHA
In TX we call it a car or Toy-yoda
davegt27 Texan here. At first i thought you were making a joke about it being a small car until i realized that is exactly how i pronounce it haha
Moose is good with the caulk.
The Celica was designed for the American market, therefore the American pronunciation is the correct one. LOL
It was a little funny!
But... but they pronounce it in Japan the way we do in the USA....
Totally in for metric, though.
I love metric and have started doing personal projects in metric to force myself to become very familiar with tolerances and such.
Scariest thing on the internet today. Moose doing his shaft work with a scotchbrite!
stick to the builds guys, dont need the inuendos! back to the diff restore, need more!
Didn't know Jon Favreau is a mechanic.
Did you know that?!?!
Know you know......
Wow 5 years later you can see how much the format has changed... Annnndd the dirty jokes have faded😂😂
Ur building my dream car I just want do a whole gt4 5gen drive train and motor
it's been over 18 months since this video, when's the next update?
Jed, there’s a whole second season, 23 more episodes. ruclips.net/p/PLp8FsoRYWYK6bP17B66VUBrOzJ66yi-6D
What's the perpous of the metal gasket ?
why not go irs in the rear? just wondering
Can i get the parts numbers for everything you replaced in the video? Planning on rebuilding my ma46 rear soon
Quick question, how do the axles stay in the housing? From my understanding you need some type of c clip in the diff to keep the axles from shooting out the sides of the car. How do the axles stay in when there isn't a diff cover to remove to access these c clips?
Cameron Lancaster no c clips on the ae86 rear end. Four bolts hold the axle in place.
2jz Bel air can we see more
moosius maximus
I'm pretty sure the dislikes are for non metric and the overall volume of measuring with moose.
lets eat.... goes to a moose eating a banana... 5 seconds later I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
more moose !
Hey Moose, Don't choke the Hammer.
"QUITE ON THE SET !" (only joking please do a vid on the Bel air ;-) )
Please tell me you checked the ring and pinion engagement and didn't just trust that using the original shims would work
It's a bird it's a plane it's super moose!!!! #pin this !
Where did you get that cool Toyota jacket?
I bought it from an auction that was raising money for a friend and fellow auto journalist who was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease. Toyota Canada put it up for auction.
Been watching too much bad obsession 😂
Good call on the proper pronunciation lads!
And I see your Schwartz is as big as mine...
I prefer metric, but I can't get down with CalEEEEca.
700th like!!!
*Shaft Play?*
He's a bad mother...
Well since it is a Japanese car, and in Japan it is called and pronounced Se-li-ka (Serika) I guess the Americans pronounced it right or at least better than see-lee-ka lol
Never trust anything that finishes in 3-5 minutes 😉
anyone else see the massive chip out of the machined area before he flips the rear axle at 1:51 ?
Or is that supposed to be there? Because it looks like it has that piece missing on both ends..
Nope, it’s symmetrical on both ends. Probably a pry point to knock the axles out.
Its on the new gaskets as well so its not broken
it's there by design to pry the axles out.
Buy a space heater from crappy tire
Oh we have several heaters on the go in there, but when it's -20 it's tough to make a dent in that kind of cold. No worries though, Connie is moving to the new shop now, which has heat.
セリカ .. if your being technical no? idk
second
Guys, it’s not like we just said screw you Toyota, we are going to call it what we want. No, they (Toyota) told us what to call it!
You need to put epilepsy warning on new intro
Moose!!!
if he is married wouldn't he be very experienced at polishing his shaft?
@11:44 thank me later
1337 video length
Isn’t it all you do when your married is polish your own shaft?
Cel-ic-a learn phonetics kids.
I was working in single digits last week,, on cars for a living....imo American Standard should have ended with WW2, wish I could guesstimate in metric. I blame the school system.
Never metric, that's why you all pay so much for gas. Politicians know if its a small tax people don't bitch as much so they nickel and dime you to death. Now a dime on a liter you are paying $.38 per gallon more and we are at just a dime. I live in a high gas tax state and pay $2.60-2.70 per gallon what do you pay per gallon in Canada and Europe?
Oh I see more awkward sexual innuendo. What are we 10 year olds?
Measuring with Moose was awesome!
