I feel so bad for Arnie.. gilbert told him if anyone ever hurt him tell him but when Gilbert hurt him Arnie didn’t know who to tell
Couldn’t have said this any better

How does he was frustrated and didn’t know what to do...
But he’s The movie is called. What’s eating Gilbert grape because he has so many feelings that are just like devouring him because he never tells anybody and when you’re dealing with a kid with autism for that long you got really upset because there’s no helping the situation so I think it’s just built up anger
@@mango_moon9702 Ikr!!!
This is a good movie but it made me really sad
It's not a good movie. It is a tremendous movie.
Isn't this not a movie, just a life theater? Because I have never seen actors so good at acting like this movie
Panic! at the Max Loud it’s so heart touching. This is one movie that really hit my soft spot.
The ending made me cry 🥺
Panic! at the Max Loud same
I usually don’t cry over movies but this one is getting me in my feels
•Laurelei Wolf• same
it's such an amazing movie
Same
Me to 😢
I cried got teary eyed
So sad that he lost it and hit his brother. Good acting though.
@Apeman Commeth wow that's not funny
Apeman Commeth Um, buddy, I think you better seek out some help...
Apeman Commeth👈please us help report this jackass
What is wrong with Arnie I’m only 8 can someone tell me what is wrong with him?
Fire ember Glitches so Arnie has a has a mental illness called intellectual disability where he’s older but mentally he’s younger so in the film he’s 17 but hes mentally probably about 4-5 . It’s a very sad situation .
Leo and Johnny were really great in this movie
They are also a perfect match in movies just imagine Johnny Depp Helena Bonham Carter and Leonardo DiCaprio all in one movie
I'm not sure if Arnie was sad over being hit, or because Gilbert had left him.
hehehbehrh4
uuu
I’m thinking both
He was sad because his big brother never hurt him before. I think he was more in shock and sense of betrayal. Gilbert knew that too that’s why he left
I saw someone else comment on another video that, "Gilbert told Arnie to tell him if anyone ever hurt him. The reason Arnie looks so confused is because when it was Gilbert who hit him, he didn't know who to go to." Something along those lines
I can never watch this scene and not shed tears. The acting is superb. I mean wow Johnny and Leo played these parts so well.
Leo 100% deserved the Oscar for this role. It's his best role to this day. I have good friends whose son is like this, and I mean exactly like this. I can't tell Leo is acting, it's that real.
Yasssss.
Tom hank that year was acting too so he got the oscars
Tomy Lee Jones won for fugitive which is such a stupid win if you ask me. Leo deserved it 100 percent.
Je suis tout à fait d'accord avec vous
Passion in is acting 🎥
That scene is so heartbreaking. Arnie didn’t know he could be so aggressive, and didn’t think of the outcome. HEART WRENCHING.
it's rough because throughout the film the only person who seems to be held accountable for their actions is Gilbert. Everyone else is quick to blame others or just refuse to take any responsibility for their decisions. that can weigh on a person no matter how strong, especially when they feel they have no way out.
Hence the name of the film and book.
Feel bad for arnie though
He developed aqua phobia after being left in the bathtub overnight
arnie is one of the cutest fictional characters ever i love him so much i just wanna give him a long hug
Same lmao
Arnie acts so cute!
:)
:)
Yes very cute ❤
Whenever I watch this.. It makes me cry lott 😔😔...
Yeah it is a good movie it is sad but it has its good moments arnie is a good kid and his older brother gilbert trys but he's the only one who is taking care of arnie
Red Boah Sutherland you’re arrogant
@Another Bigfoot with internet access its not like he does it everyday, it just happened this one time because he was very angry at everything that went wrong that day. thats still no excuse but its making it a bit more understandable.
i honestly have so much sympathy for gilbert. it seems as if nobody else in the family seems to help look after arnie and all the pressure is left on gilbert.
These two guys (Leo and Johnny) both went on to get famous and play roles called Jack who went on a boat 🚢
Underrated comment, I can't believe this doesn't have more likes.
leo and johnny are so GOOD at acting!!! IM AMAZED with how leo did his role so good and I CANT EVEN BELIVE IT THE SCENE LOOKS SO REAL with the slaps and arnies reaction i felt so bad! They deserve hundreds of awards
Leo is one of the greatest actors i’ve ever seen
Who else cried
Nope? Just me?
@Yousef Khan yes I know. Heartbreaking
These scene breaks my heart for both of them, Arnie being hit by Gilbert while Arnie look up to Gilbert as his protector, and Gilbert who happens to be so fedup with all the RESPONSIBILITIES he had for his family. 😔💔 these film is a rollercoaster of feelings from funny, to sad, to angry & joy.❤💙
DiCaprio is and will always be my favorite actor. There's very few actors/actresses that can perform at his level. It's absolutely absurd that he only has one Oscar. He should have at least 6 or 7 in my opinion. He makes everything seem so real.
Great movie with unforgettable performances by Depp and DiCaprio. Heartbreaking scene.
He’s 18 looks more like 12-13
Yeah that's what I thought too
I think he was just starting to go through puberty during this movie. His actor I mean. That would explain why he looks so young for his age!
The actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) was actually 19 in this lol
Sometimes special needed children looks younger than their actual age.Because they mentally they Don't grow.So they appear to be younger.
Sarah Zahir Sarah Zahir yeah but dicaprio isnt special needs. he just happens to have a really young face
Man I resonated with this scene. Lost it for a moment and hit my disable brother. Felt like absolute garbage because I failed as a Brother.
My parents had Bonnie's inability to cope and handed parenting responsibilities over to me. I never hit my disabled sister, but I recall losing it once at 14 and screaming at her SO loudly. I'm sure people could hear me for miles. It does feel awful.
Leo should have absolutely WON the BSA Oscar for his superlative performance of Arnie!
“You don’t hurt Arnie, you just don’t”- Gilbert
I cried here
He’s annoying as hell
I'm fat too. But Johnny and leo didn't care , the mother was so lovable it made me sad when arnie crying damn sad, Gilbert you damn sad man .... Leo you played Arnie well ....
"Im fat too"
Then fucking do something about it
You forget that they are acting this is a amazing movie
She didn’t care enough about her kids to lose some weight
Seth Hixie what a horrible person you are..food is the worst addiction in the world
@@SethHixie your not fat you're perfect just the way you are people are perfect
Of course it's super sad. You should *never* strike a mentally disabled person. He just lost control of himself for a minute. This is the best part of the movie because Arnie finally realized he messed up, and that its his fault that gilbert acted that way. So instead of crying to his mom about it, he goes away and figures it out himself, like a man. I may be stating the obvious but I love this movie :)
If you notice Arnie strikes him first and that is what gets him to hit Arnie. I'm not saying it is okay, I've just been there and I know how it happens. I know how you can instinctively hit someone who hits you and then feel so terrible about it that it's hard to accept you even did it. It's just natural and sadly as much as we may want to be a force of overwhelming good for someone there will be moments when they bring out our innate human nature. Especially when we are young and have not yet encountered this kind of problem before. Truly it is difficult to always be there for the people you love when they are never there for you.
@@SpcGiraffe Of course. Pretty much any of us put in Gilbert's shoes for a month would cause a bunch of stress, and in this situation we would likely do the same. I love Arnie but the kid maybe needed a good ol' shlappin. It's hard to watch, but he forgives Gilbert the next day because he realized he messed up.
Before of that you see Gilbert's balloon blowing up, a clear sign he was on his limit: his girlfriend will leave the town, possibly he will lose his job because of Arnie's cake that then Arnie will ruin, etc.
i noticed that too i think arnie understood he pushed gilbert to far. i am not saying what gilbert did was right but when someone are something pushes you too far you snap. and it is my favorite johnny depp movie too
There's no way this is Leonardo Dicrapio!!! He doesn't even loose character for 1 second. The acting is mesmerizing! He has a twin brother or someone really close to him has this condition xD
Dude, it IS DiCaprio. Get over it, lol.
@@jcmat9917 stfu bro you know he’s not being serious
I researched it; he studied those with disabilities to make this as real as possible. Are you shocked? I am … that he didn’t get an Oscar then.
C'est la marque des Très Grands Acteurs ✨💖💗💓✨✨✨✨
Part gets me every time. They should've won an award for this

I feel bad for Gilbert, his mom is morbidly obese, he has to take care of his autistic brother all the the time, his father’s dead and the shop he works are losing money and customers
its a sad reality of life for alot of people. I like this movie because alot of people are given an unfortunate hand of life and have to deal with mentally ill disabled family members sick family members so this is real life for alot of people. Life is not all rainbows and sunshines and Disney happily ever after movies.
I don't think autistic people can go at any time like they say about Arnie in the movie
The first time I watched this movie I connected with it so much. I too had a moment in my life where my mom fell into a depression that destroyed our household. Just like Gilbert I felt a huge amount of resentment towards my mom even though deep down I know it wasn’t her fault and I should’ve tried to support her more instead. Instead of a mentally challenged brother I was dealing with a grandma with dementia and I had more moments than I’d like to admit where I snapped out at my grandma in anger and frustration and yelled at her.
Sometimes we get cant control our emotion and frustration.
I honestly cannot watch this movie without crying
Such powerful acting
Gilbert had it rough. I mean the whole slapping of disabled person is bad but Gilbert reached a breaking point tho
His best performance...just nail it.
I have autism, and I feel like crying when I think about my crush Jillian Colapinto.
Hope you got her brother. Never settle for less!
This scene made me cry
This was such a good movie but it’s just so sad
I’m just crying
I've loved this movie since it came out back in 93' and I still love it to this day.
Johnny Depp doesn’t get enough accolades for his acting in this movie. Leo was amazing but Depp was awesome too
I just love Leonardo DiCaprio..his acting. His speaking style , his face . He's the totally best , more than that.
Leo is really a great actor
These are such excellent performances on both Johnny and Leo. It's such a real feeling of guilt and their living condition. To think these 2 would become mega stars 30 years later.
I have two sons and they remind me so much of the characters in this film. I watched it many years ago and loved the movie but it really hits home now that I’m practically living it. I love this film for being so real with the characters and touching the hearts of so many people and giving a glimpse of what having a disabled child is like.
I’m sorry happy there’s a movie that stars both of the greatest and most beautiful actors simultaneously. And it’s crazy how close they are in age so they were a part of that whole era. Lovely.
This movie is the definition of melancholy. It ends on a hopeful note but has several moments of turmoil. I don't have any mentally handicapped family members, but I am the oldest sibling and a lot of things fall on you sometimes. My mother works a lot so it's up to me to watch over my younger siblings, and sometimes they do make me stressed enough to want to hit them (I never did, rest assured). Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio were amazing, they felt just like brothers. When everyone laughed at the mother, you could feel the pain. I cried when Gilbert and his mother had a heart-to-heart and hugged on Arnie's birthday, reminded me a lot of how much mothers truly care for their children, and despite how she was embarrassed, she was more concerned of being a burden on Gilbert. I hugged my mother so hard after the movie, it's truly something that you must watch before you die.
This movie has some truly great moments
One of the greatest movies I have ever seen. 👍🏻
I don’t usually cry over movies but man this one took me out I swear
We NEED another movie with Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio, it doesn't have to be related to WEGG, But. . . A short film of Their life now would be AMAZING, id cry my heart out, Like imagine, you see Johnny Depp from the side, from the waist up, Walking in the Dark, Looking at the ground and over his shoulder, then he comes to a ladder and starts climbing, the entire time your just hearing the sounds of the night , his footsteps on the ladder that squeak and groan with dilapidation, and him breathing, the climb takes about 45 seconds, he doesn't seem to be in a hurry, when he reaches the top, he stops and stares for a second, then with a slight sigh of relief, slowly shuffles his feet, walking up next to a figure leaning against a railing,. No words are spoken he just leans on the railing too, you hear squeaks and groans of metal, then the camera switches to a wide front angle and you see Johnny and Leo on the water tower, and the camera slowly pans in on their aged faces as they look out into the black of night. Then you hear a voice call from down below, "hey, Everything alright up there?" and the camera cuts to Juliette Lewis calling up to the tower. Johnny calls back, "yep, everything's alright, we'll be down in a sec" and Leo yells immediately after, "Yep, alright, Be down in a sec." Everything falls quiet again as Johnny and Leo stand there, looking into the deep black, then Leo says, " I miss mama Gilbert." a moment of reflection then Johnny replies, "I miss her too Arnie". Arnie furrows his brow in deep thought then says, "Gilbert, your old, your old Gilbert," and begins to singsong, " Gilberts old, gilberts old," while Gilbert chuckles and torts, "your old," they both laugh then Juliette Lewis calls from below, "Hey guys, I'm getting kind of hungry, you wanna get something to eat?" Leo immediately asks, " Can we get Burger barn Gilbert?" Johnny replies, "That sounds good" and calls out to Juliette, " what about Burger Barn?" Juliette calls back, " Sounds good" they take another small moment then Johnny asks," you ready Arn?" Leo replies back, " Yea I'm ready," they turn and start to go then Leo stops, Looks out into the blackness and asks, " Gilbert, can we come back here tomorrow, Gilbert, one last time? " Johnny turns and says, " this is the last time, Arnie, remember they're tearing it down tomorrow, it's been condemned." Leo looking a bit sad and worried replies, " oh yea Gilbert, i remember," Johnny steps forward and wraps his arms around Leo and they embrace, a tender moment is cut short as the water tower shakes and shudders and creaks and groans causing both Johnny and Leo to grab the Railing. Johnny says urgently, " We gotta go Arn, It's not safe. Leo replies, " Ok Gilbert". The camera pans back as they both make their way down the water tower one last and very final time. When they reach the bottom Johnny and Juliette embrace, Juliette looks at Leo and asks, " are you alright Arn?" Arn nervously Repeats, "I'm ok" Juliette immediately senses Leos distress and she embraces him and starts singing softly as Johnny watches. After a moment Juliette looks Leo in his eyes lovingly and Leo laughs. Juliette turns to Johnny and says, "shall we?" Johnny smiles and replies, "we shall." They turn and walk past a bulldozer and other construction vehicles And we follow behind them as Johnny and Juliette are having a playful conversation in the background on the way to the car. we focus on Leo as he stops and turns around to look at the water tower one last time. As he stands there looking up at the water tower we slowly pan into a close up of him smiling mischievously, The end. lol My imagination got carried away, happens all the time.
Wow! Amazing.

This made me cry
Johnny Depp admitted that he got easily irritated by co-star Leonardo DiCaprio during the filming of the movie. In an interview, Depp said, "It was a hard time for me, that film, for some reason. I don't know why. I tortured him (Leonardo DiCaprio). I really did. He was always talking about these video games, you know? I told you it was kind of a dark period... 'No, I will not give you a drag of my cigarette while you hide from your mother again, Leo.'" Depp concluded, "I'd say the absolute truth is that I respect Leo a lot. He worked really hard on that film, and spent a lot of time researching. He came to set and he was ready to work hard and all his ducks were in a row."

This honestly is his top 3 best performance of all time. The guy didn’t just played Arnie he really became Arnie. Seeing the interview on how prepared for Arnie by literally visiting the home for disabled kids is just how incredibly dedicated and hardworking he is. Plus how he absolutely made some bits for Arnie is again a testament to his talent
Deux IMMENSES acteurs ✨💖💗💓✨✨✨
Aww poor Arnie 😭
Way he do that to Arnie 😭
Two great legends in one movie
This is what i call good acting
I was so sad for Arnie and Gilbert both. Gilbert did the wrong thing of course but it's hard for him too.

he actuallly love his brother he just got out of hand and hit hi cus he was just angry at that moment
he still love arnie
I have watched the movie multiple times already but damn.. it always hit me. Arnie Grape’s character just penetrates the soul of any human ! Leo is so brilliant and powerful in this character that you will be in awe. It is so believable that I thought they casted a real one just like momma Freaking amazing Leo. The Oscar should have been given to him in 1993 and to me this is still his best performance ever definitely better than Revenant Aviator Wolf of Wall Street and Once upon a time in Hollywood. Arnie Grape symbolizes humanity in its simplest sense a pure emotional journey. This is his only movie when he is not fuckingly mad or shouting at the top of his lungs or smoking a cigarette or sex or vices and all those negativities in life. His character brings back the pure goodness of being a human
I love this movie Leo & JD did great job
The background piano piece when Gilbert leaves is amazing
0:37 arnies scream is so cute

Incredible film with Incredible acting!
Gilbert warned you, Arnie. Not to touch the cake!

I have a mentally challenged nephew its hard on everyone
I'm sorry, but literally poor Arnie. I know that Gilbert was frustrated and just acted out, but he could’ve tried to understand Arnie’s perspective. He didn’t want to go in the bath because Gilbert left him in there overnight, and he was scared he was going to drown. I know it’s hard for Arnie to explain that but Gilbert could’ve thought it out. This scene does show how real the pressure is though, which is why it’s also a good scene. Also, since Arnie was mentally disabled he didn’t know why he got hit, because he thought he could always trust Gilbert. Props to him for not crying though, he took it. To wrap it up, you should probably try and think things through beforehand because you can act out in a state of rage and hurt the ones you love.
I'm beginning to wonder why the mom would rather enjoy the party from inside the house? That's no fun. I'm thinking to think the reason being is because when they went to release Arnie from Jail, everyone in town laughed, pointed and took photos of her rudely and was worried they'd do the same thing at the party and would make fun of her. She just didn't want to be seen again after being the laughing stock of the whole town. I think that's why she said she wanted to be inside during the party.
That so sad.. but very good acting ❤💧
2:00-2:05 leo the little master.❤❤❤deserved an oscar
My top 3 most believable characters played by an actor:
1. Leonardo DiCaprio - What's eating Gilbert Grape
