- Color button theory is the Nintendo Switch 2 rumor I believe most. We need to talk about why Super Famicom colored button icons appearing in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake and Super Mario RPG remake might suggest Nintendo's next-gen console will be backwards compatible. There is one more game with colored buttons, dev cycles can be chaotic and do not match up with release dates 1 to 1 so only some games having colored buttons could be that its not mandatory yet and games that started development earlier would not have them. The other side of the coin is even if colored buttons are real it could just be for a Switch 1 refresh that has colored buttons instead of a switch 2. Definitely a work in progress theory

It won't happen. Famicom style buttons would make colored Joy-Con impossible.
Not completely! Xbox has done this very well with their buttons over the years. If buttons are custom colored, put 4 colored dots between each of the buttons. Nintendo has also made just colored lettering before, on the New 3DS XL.
And like xbox, on some special edition controllers they can simply just omit the colors entirely of the design fits it.

If every controller might be different, what's the point of the UI button colors?
