    Just bought the SL88 GRAND too! I can fully agree, it's a joy to play. Dynamics are awesome, textured keytops (ivory-like), wooden inserts (on both sides of each white key). Very fast, no delay at all when hooked via USB. Bundled 'SL-Editor' is also cool, keys can be tailored individually if needed, presets-programs etc, all can be edited easily.
    It's very very playable. Especially for (acoustic) piano VSTs, but also fits nicely for ep, rhodes etc. I can play strings like never before on any of my keyboards. (I'm not saying that my Yamaha CP33 or M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 MK1(!) were bad, the former is a pro-grade stage piano, the latter is the midi-tweakers's heaven.
    The SL88 Grand is one hell of a graded hammer controller! The feel is absolutely stunning!
    + aftertouch!
    Your review has also made me to get the SL88 Grand :)

      @@PraiseTracks I'm an extremely bad keyboard / piano player (... nowhere near your skills). But when I had my first contact with The Orchestra, I knew immediately, that I need some way to free my hands for playing while still being able to change the dynamics. Had to change my crappy Miditech keyboard for an Icon iKeyboard 6X to be able to use an expression pedal. Tried a few used pedals from eBay (Yamaha, Behringer) but was unsatisfied with their feedback. A new Moog EP-3 for around 40€ finally offered what I was looking for => Perfectly adjustable feedback all the way from values between 0 to 127. Wish you all the best and hope to see more from you soon. 🙂

    • @onurpekdemir
      @onurpekdemir Год назад +1

      @@tylerdurden2577 Not exactly sure what you mean. Unfortunately I don't have a very fancy master keyboard (no aftertouch or other shenanigans) ... therefore can't tell if that would be possible to integrate with the Orchestra. If you're talking about regular, dynamic keyboard playing: Yes, it's possible - but it depends on the preset you're using. Some are designed to work more as a rythmic pattern structure while other presets are based on dominant instruments like a piano or flute (combined with other elements) and can be played dynamically. That said, the orchestra IMHO is best used for quickly building complex pattern based song structures. But you can easily combine that or flesh it out with other libraries (if you don't like the provided isolated instruments). I use it a lot to start something off from scratch and then see where it will lead me. Hope this helps. Cheers 🍻

      @@onurpekdemir Thanks for the answer. I'm quite new to the VI stuff and usually play classical piano. I bought the essential orchestra for sale (50 euro) because of its intuitiv interface and the ensemble presets with the intention to "test out" ideas for composition by using a digital weighted piano as midi controller (no modwheel or expression pedal) with both my hands at the keyboard. This doesn't work so good because it seems that I can't controll the volume by pressing the keys harder or softer, which is very limiting in the way I want to use this program. I also have one of the VSL synchron Starter packs, where you can do this. Maybe I don't get how to set this up or it isn't possible at all (sry for bad english)

      @@PraiseTracks Yes I know you DID mention that in your review - that it would be ideal for a small situation. And with it's small "footprint" it would be ideal for use on a laptop and limited memory or storage capacity. I LOVE The Orchestra and The Orchestra 2 Complete. They are wonderful products and so much of what they have apparently done with Essentials - has gleaned plenty of the good stuff of Orch and Orch 2 and packed it into this library. And they certainly didn't skimp on a superb powerhouse of sound while packing it into a smaller library - nothing was spared indeed. Orchestral Tools - yes, VERY expensive but the TALLINN and MIROIRE packages I just got - such good stuff. Very specific libraries but OT I'm beginning to appreciate regardless of price. I can't afford what I'd love to afford, but the new Berlin Orchestra library is too good and with a couple hundred off the price for a couple weeks, well it will be hard to pass it up if I do. Glorious. I'm a beginner and I love this, but I struggle with where a composer draws the line with the animated presets/patches. Maybe some of you experienced composers can give me your thoughts and some advice, do you use programs, engines like this in your compositions without a care, or do you feel hesitant since you are not composing, per sea, the essential rhythms and sounds, etc.? I've been especially struggling with this thought as I review Action Strings 2. Someone once said, if you can write it yourself and are using these engines to just save time that is fine ... but I can't write these complex sketches, arrangements myself, does that mean I shouldn't be using what these engines have to offer?

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  2 года назад +1

      Nick, welcome to the channel and I am so glad you are enjoying the content, it is a joy to be able to share these moments with you.
      So the way I view the various animated orchestras and instruments is that they serve as sort of a 1st Floor so to speak where you can then build on.
      When exploring, you might find one in particular that provides a steady pulse, or even one that inspires a rhythmic motif, better yet, you could combine both of these to then build a solo track that will sit on the top.
      You are in fact composing just as someone might actually write a pattern, an ostinato, or a motif, for a section to play. The only difference here is that you can choose from some preselected patterns and ideas and have the ability to customize them to better fit into what you are working on.
      I look at all of these types of things as creative fuel, they are the kickstart of ideas, and inspirations to pull new melodies out of you, so it really is a win-win.
      I hope that helps and again, I so appreciate the kind support. Joyfully! 🎹

      One of the main things to look at regarding your audio interface performance is making sure that it is on its own dedicated USB Root Hub and not sharing USB connectivity with any other devices, that can cause a significant performance hit. I've tried boosting Cakewalk's gain, or raising the volume in the orchestral plugin itself, but the result is the same. I've tried researching the internet to no avail. I'm setting up Kontakt as a "simple instrument track". Everything work's as it should except the volume issue. When I say it pays back low......it's incredibly low...like -35db low. I'm lost, and help would be greatly appreciated!!!

      Sash, sorry you are having issues. The first thing I would try is to Expand or Split the Instrument track so you can see the AUDIO and MIDI track separately, this will allow you to adjust the volume of the MIDI track which defaults to (100), so adjusting this might help send an initial higher level to KONTAKT.
      It also could be something to do with MIDI CC data getting reset somehow, so try moving CC11 (Expression) or CC1 (Modulation/Dynamic) and see if that helps. Let me know what you discover. If you need any additional help please let me know, even possibly sending the Cakewalk project file to see if there might be something going on there. Joyfully yours!

    Hi, i don't know much about that kind of software but i'm really interested about making orchestra. How do you record your composition with orchestra essentials ? Is there another software to export our work and to produce the final song ?

      Nicolas, yes you would need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to serve as the host where you can capture your performances to MIDI tracks and then be able to edit and mix them into a finished audio project.
      I use Cakewalk by BandLab which is a very powerful and full featured application and the best part is that it is FREE.
      That would be where I would start.
      Thanks for watching and please let me know if you hav any additional questions. Joyfully!🎹

      Hello Dage, sorry you are having trouble. So there are a couple of steps to get this running.
      You first need to create an account on Native Instruments website and download the Native Access app, this will be where you will manage things related to Kontakt and your libraries.
      Make sure you go to the preferences in Native Access to set your download location, content location. I am thinking on MacOS the plugin location might be already set.
      When you launch Native Access and log in, you look in the upper Left Hand side of the app and you should see ADD SERIAL.
      Select that and copy and paste the serial number you received. You should see SHOW NOT INSTALLED and there The Orchestra Essentials. Click on install and it should download and install the Kontakt player and the library.
      Let me know how it goes.
      I am on Windows so there might be some differences as far as file locations but it should work.
      Thanks for watching.

      I am glad you were able to figure it out. I need to do a series on how to get these running as there can be a lot of confusion when dealing with the way different developers handle things.
      Joyfully!🎹

      Yes, I think it is a fantastic library for the price, a great way to get started if you do not already have any orchestral libraries, and a wonderful addition if you do. Thanks so much for watching.

    Will Fishman triple play recognize the libraries?

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  2 года назад

      Yes, it should as the Kontakt Player is a VST instrument. That would be really interesting hearing how a guitar player might approach these orchestral libraries. Thanks for watching.

      I've always said that the sounds in The Orchestra Complete are very good but not world-class, and obviously this Essentials package is pretty trim compared to that - although I think it's definitely better than a Yamaha rompler. It really is all about that Ensemble Engine, though - some of the presets sound fantastic and are so easy to play and integrate into your compositions, without sacrificing much flexibility since it's not pre-recorded phrases or chords. And you can make your own too. I mean, listen to Simon's improv starting at 36:26 - you're not going to get sounds like that out of a keyboard, and it's all being played live in real time.
