I have a simple technique to freeze liquids. First, take a Ziploc baggie and pour the liquid in it, so that it is no taller than the freezer trays. When you've got about four of them, put them in the freezer to freeze solid. Then take them out, cut them open with a scissors and lay them on the trays, and they can even overlap a little if needed. That way you don't have to lift that tray up into a freezer or walk with liquid in a tray. That's an accident waiting to happen this way you have solid chunks of liquid that you set on the trays and put in the machine.
STOP!....... you cannot be 79!..... I have just turned 60 on the 10th and feeling old and sorry for myself. I need to catch myself on! You are such an inspiration... I need to emulate you. What a wonderful example you are of a woman with a zest for life xxx❤
Happy Birthdays🎉 This freeze-drying machine is impressive. I can see a shared arrangement between friends, a church group, a community center of some sort. Costs could be shared. Eggs are seasonal so being able to freeze-dry them during the long days would sure help in winter. Preparedness means a lot to me and I like learning from your thorough work. Hardest part: getting a tray to the oven.
For someone with a head for business, I think that a use at your own risk freeze-dry-o-mat (similar to a laundromat) could be a way to make it a reality.
Our oldest sons bday is the 5th of August as well 😊I’m with others, you don’t look or seem like you can be coming up on 79. I hope we’re still all together here in 20 years!
Happy birthday to the entire family sounds like August is a good month for you! Thank you for giving us a gift for your birthday - 20% discount is marvelous
Happy early Birthday to you (even though I have a hard time believing that you are 79) and your grandson! I have a great nephew who will be 21 on the 4th.
Thanks for the veggie egg bake recipe. I am always looking for recipes for my 89 year old mom to make it easy for her to prepare. The recipe looks good for any one! Happy birthday! My family has a birthday and wedding anniversary in August. Thanks for sharing!
Egg-cellent video Pam!🤣😂. Maybe Rehydrate the already cooked eggs with boiling water…that way it would be warm like a meal after it absorbs the needed water 🤷🏻♀️. I am so happy to see the video & use the tips…our chickens are almost laying age! I can wait to be over flowing with our own eggs! 💕🐣🐥🥚🍳
Couldn’t get my battery operated sealer to work so I had my son and DIL come over to see what I was doing wrong. Well they couldn’t get to work right either. They had ordered one and loved it. I guess I was sent a lemon, even if it seals it come UN sealed shortly after. I am a big canner have canned for 47 years and will just stick to the old way. I do love my freeze dryer it works great. After four loads it stopped working so I called the company they said it needed an up date that I needed to down and put it on a stick. I told her I haven’t a clue on doing any of that. So after paying thousands for my freeze dryer I had to pay $10.00 to have them download the up date and send me in the snail mail. When I received the stick and put into my Freeze Right Mac it only took maybe 2 minutes for the update. Glad to have that working properly but that sealer needs to go to the dump.
Thanks so much for sharing it's awesome just a little tidbit of information if you are reconstituting anything that's already been cooked you're better off to use hot water and if it's something that is raw you use cold 😊
Some folks freeze the items in a standard freezer to save power and wear and tear on the freeze dryer. I wonder, though, if you could handle a large fruit harvest more efficiently if you use liquid nitrogen…
We share a birthday Pam…. I turn 55 on the 3rd…. :). (Theres NO WAY i would have thought you were 79 !! You certainly dont look it ). Happy Birthday to you xo. I LOVE that you are freeze drying nutrient dense foods. My son is off to university next year (one meal per day is provided for him) and he will be gone Monday through Friday… , I plan to send him each week with some healthy, freeze dried foods, and just keep my fingers crossed that he actually eats them, rather than buy unhealthy rubbish to eat - he has just turned 18….
Before Covid, there was an ice cream shop here that would take fresh ingredients and mix it with liquid nitrogen to make ice cream right in front of you
I want to try your Veggie a Egg Bake. No freeze dryer, but I would flash freeze, vacuum seal and freeze individual portions. In your case, you could vacuum seal yours yours, just stop the vacuum (press the Seal button)before it crushes the food. Thanks for the yummy recipe.
Wonderful people were born in August 😁😁. Two of my Grands were and my goodness, they too have gorgeous hearts 💕. Happy Birthday!! Have you ever used yellow, orange, and red peppers as bread replacements? The veggie eggs call out to me as candidates for "'peppers'" bread instead. I realize you are monitoring nutrients and might include bread in the mix and not want peppers as bread. Oh, I didn't include green peppers because I am not fond of them as bread replacement 😀. Another great video in the repertoire of Trail Grazers. Thank you. 💓
I do wish I could afford a freeze dryer. But I can’t. The meals look wonderful. Oh by the way, you do not look or act like a 79 year young person. 59 but not 79.
If you use an oxygen absorber, you do not need to vacuum seal as well. It does the same thing. Your Mylar bags will shrink up over a day or so. Love your many ideas on how to preserve foods different ways. I share your content often.
I am concerned about mixing raw eggs in the freeze dryer with cooked eggs. My understanding is that when processing raw meats and eggs that I have to sterilize my machine before processing foods that are cooked, or raw, like fruits and vegetables that wouldn't be cooked later. Do you know about that? I normally do 2 batches of 6 dozen eggs then sanitize my machine before further processing... just did that exact same thing this week when freeze drying eggs then freeze drying roasted chicken from Costco.
Our sealer is pretty strong and would break the egg squares, which I don't want. I want them to maintain their shape for making sandwiches. But you could do either--they both accomplish the same end result.

There is no way you turn 79! More like 59. Happy Birthday! Eggcellent video, thanks for sharing
i agree!! she looks fantastic & has more energy than me at 60!!
Thank you for your kind words!
When the grid goes down your house would definitely be the place to be! Your husband is lucky for all your hard work and expertise!
Thanks. I pretty much think my children will be migrating this direction if things go south! LOL!

Thank you so much. It is not easy growing older, but I don't plan to let it get me down! So much still to learn and do!
I love how you show things, I bet you were an amazing teacher/professor!!!
Thank you so much.
Happy happy birthday, Pam!! You are such a treasure!! Thank you for all you do for us! I appreciate you. ❤
Thank you so much!
Make yourself a funnel out of Foodsaver bag material longer than the tray. It works well with any freeze dried food and contains the mess.
Thanks for the tip.
Another way to approach fresh-sealing a jar or bag is to use a chunk of dry-ice
Yes, so long as you know how to handle dry ice safely.
You have my head spinning with all the new ways I can preserve food. Another great video. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
Happy Birthdays🎉

I'd like a freeze drier but yikes, the cost !
Shared cost is a great idea. I would have done that with my sisters if we lived closer together.
You put the tray in the freeze dryer first, then pour the liquid in. 😊

I hope so too! My maternal grandfather lived until he was 99, so it is a possibility! LOL!
I have some freeze-dried eggs I want to use. That's for telling us the mixing proportions.
Happy birthday to the entire family sounds like August is a good month for you! Thank you for giving us a gift for your birthday - 20% discount is marvelous

What an eggcelent idea! The egg and vegie bake looks scrumptious. I think we shell be trying it some time as a party snack.
It was pretty good. We finished the last of it for breakfast yesterday. It keeps well in the fridge for several days.
Happy be-lated birthday 🎂
Thank you.
Happy Birthday to you and the family members that have birthdays in August 🎂🎉

I would not recommend that.
I’m new on this and I love your videos and recipes thank you
You are so welcome, and welcome to our adventures!!!

Happy belated Birthday
Thank you!
Happy Birthday--and many Happy Returns!

Love your videos. Really great information here. We have a freeze dryer and have not tried this yet.
Thanks for watching! Eggs are one of my favorite foods to FD!

Happy early birthday 🎉ps, hot water seems to rehydrate better for me.
Yes, I agree that hot water works well to rehydrate.

I need to dose insulin for carbs. Does your recipe show carbs?
Sandwich looks absolutely wonderful!
Yes, in my new book the nutrition facts will show the amount of carbs.
I was wondering why you don't pre freeze things to save time.
It is no longer recommended or required by the software update. We do pre-freeze some foods like buttermilk or other liquids.
Where can I find that English muffin recipe?
It is in our bread book.
Uh oh - I have freeze dried eggs in mylar from up to 6 years ago - they won't be good? Never tried already cooking them first for camping etc.
They might be just fine--just give them the smell test before you reconstitute. You will know.
Do you use oxygen absorbers for the jars of eggs?
I generally just vacuum seal them.
Thank you 😊

Whatever works for you. I wash my trays carefully after each batch, but generally don't sanitize per se.
Why NOT vacuum seal that bag; why just seal it?
Our sealer is pretty strong and would break the egg squares, which I don't want. I want them to maintain their shape for making sandwiches. But you could do either--they both accomplish the same end result.
I thought freeze dried foods last until 25 years but now you're saying that scrambled eggs only last two years?
Happy birthday 🎉
Thank you.
