This movie was a miracle that should have not existed. The sheer amount of effort and investment put into this film was insane, way beyond what any sensible man would have dared to attempt for just one animated movie, and yet, here it is in all its glory.

Hardly anyone brings up Speed Racer when talking about Live Action adaptations, but I loved it. It definitely wasn't much of a good adaptation, but it was fun as hell, and still made things interesting.
The anime was supposed to be a series. Yet it took 7 years to make and ended up as a movie. Which is a shame but it is a work of art for the level of detail. Very few animes even these days go that far. Now story wise. The story is pretty generic but it works.
This song and the race go so well together, it’s epic. Watched the movie before Christmas, and it’s even more hype. Easily best movie of the last decade. No exceptions.

Looking at these vehicles from a realistic standpoint (which I know is probably isn't a good idea) the car with the most powerful engine is the protagonist's, because every other car is hyper aerodynamic and well-designed for speed. And the protagonist's has the aerodynamics of a brick, which means the only thing keeping him ahead in the race is the raw power the engine produces. And it's probably also why the car suffers spontaneous unscheduled disassembly at the end of the race.
on the last stretch of Redline, the Trans Am might have been making well over 350,000 horsepower. It makes 35,000 hp plus the streamlight, that's 10x a gold nitro
fun fact: the fastest road legal car at time of writing, the Koenigsegg Agera in it's most powerful variation, has 1,341hp, beating the previous holder of the record, the Bugatti Veyron, with 1,001hp. the vehicle that holds the land speed record, the Thrust SSC, that reached a top speed of 1,228 Km/h - 763 mph - 341 metres per second - mach 1.02 (which, by the way, is fucking ludicrus) has 102,000hp. looking at how fast the cars in redline seem to move sometimes looking at the ground passing by (don't quote me on that, it's an estimation by eye and i may be biased as i want them to move that fast), i'd put them close to that. they don't seem to be breaking the sound barrier, it would be slightly slower but seemingly close. the 1000hp in the song is being out done en masse today and, as fucking awesome as the song is, is actually relativly unimpressive for extremes now-a days. The "'exaggerations" people seem to be putting in the comments are actually nothing in comparision to what the redline cars actually seem capable of. also, while i'm on the topic of ludicrusly fast shit and info dumping because this interests me alot, the fastest vehicle air breathing vehicle made, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a retired, miltary, long range reconnaissance aircraft, has 160,000hp and fucking shifted at mach 3.2 - 3,529 km/h - 2,193 mph - 980 metres per second (nearly a kilometre PER SECOND!). this is an aircraft who's evasive menuvers for basically anything was "go faster" and then did. also remember this is a vehicle designed and made in 1964; imagine what we could pull off now-a days.
Interesting bit of trivia, but counting jet engines in horsepower is what makes that over the top number of 100k hp. The top of the line dragsters have 11 000 hp and is more grounded to reality. They accelerate from 0 to 550kmh in 3.7seconds. thrust ssc takes the same 4secs to go 0-160kmh (insanely slow if you consider it having 100k hp. I don't know what crowds you are hanging out with, but for myself- seeing a 1000hp car in action is pretty damn impressive

A Bugatti Chiron doesn't even need mods to have 1500hp but I would never stand besides a quad-turbo w12 and think: "meh, it's pretty unimpressive in terms of raw power". In the world of 100kw minivans, a 1000 hp car is still pretty damn impressive and not an everyday sight.
In the film when they showed the dash he was going 220 kp/h which is 136 mph before he put the gold nitro and supercharged it to 12.0 boost pressure at that point JP could be going 750 mph considering sonoshi litterally had 2 jet engines that looked like the size of an F-16's engine and he managed to catch up and even pass her.
they showed the speedo in the video, which seems to be in MPH and showed 220-250mph (some sort of nitro has been used), which is reachable for 1000hp, so it fits the anime.. FunFact: 1000HP is more than enough and barely driveable if the car isnt designed for it and could probably bent the frames..

I did say ONE of the only racing anime. There is also tailenders, capeta, intial D, Wangan midnight, and a few others, but compared to most other genre, the fact that I can only list a few is pretty telling.
Once saw this movie for sale at the local walmart. Wanted to pick it up, but had some outstanding Bill's to take care of and didn't want to blow money frivolously. When I finally got the money for it the movie wasn't there anymore, still kinda pissed about that.
Fun fact about ol dudes car. It's basically a modified Camero built for drag racing. You can tell because the rubber of the tires is bolted to the rims. Otherwise the rim would spin without without moving the tire due to the high rpm.
