@@eiaeheh For me, its because I love mornings. Waking up early and have sometime to sit down and reset myself through morning pages helps me be more happy and productive throughout the day, especially if its a long one or when I have to meet up with a lot of people. Plus, I sleep a bit early so my body just wakes up at that time. Oh and also its prayer time for us Muslims(winter time). My day does not flow well if I did not have that time to just sit down and be with myself before interacting with others.

I once heard someone say, "get up earlier. not early, just earlier". I think that's the key. No matter what time you want to start your day, waking up just an hour earlier or so allows you to start it better. and you know what? you just showed us that you can live your dream life and be successful without having to wake up early :)

🌟 Hey Aileen, something that helped me waking up early without snoozing my alarm is the 5 seconds rule by Mel Robbins. The alarm sounds, I count 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and I get out of bed with full force... then I turn off my alarm. Don't touch your phone until you're out of bed. It really helps.

Wow, thanks for your kindness & tips in the comments! I was afraid of uploading this video bc it didn't show a major improvement, I was disappointed and afraid of being judged. But I'm glad I still posted it. I realized I had a lot more to say about this topic:
1️⃣ There's this societal belief that you have to wake up early and be a morning person to be a responsible, successful person. I wanted to show that it's not necessary - you can sleep in, wake up late, and still get things done and succeed. I've had this sleep schedule all my life (except for school, when I really struggled to wake up at 6am everyday). My natural sleep cycle might be genetic/influenced, as my dad is a night owl and wakes up very late too. He's been waking up at 2-4pm all my life (when I was a kid, and still to this day) and he still manages to succeed in a big way. I owe it to him for showing me that you don't have to wake up early to succeed, run multiple businesses, and support your family. The sad thing is being shamed for having a different sleep schedule than most people - I still deal with a little shame and guilt about that from society & the people around me.
2️⃣"If you now work a job where you don't have to wake up early, why try to force your natural sleep cycle to wake up earlier?" The reality is, the rest of the world functions on a morning person's schedule, so it's harder to get some things done outside of business hours, when people get off work. I still have to work with others so our work times need to overlap, even if for a couple hours. Also, I mentioned that sunlight is important for filming videos, and in the fall/winter the sun sets earlier ~4:30pm. That's why I have to wake up earlier these seasons, so I can get more sunlight in. In the summer I can sleep in and still film videos til 8pm (when the sun sets), I love it so much. I would love if the sun could set at 8pm all year round 😋
3️⃣ I'm so glad I didn't choose to do a 5am wake up challenge because that's not realistic or desirable for me at all. Even though my schedule is outside of the ordinary, it's not about the time you wake up, it's about the quality of rest you get and how amazing it makes you feel in your life. Let your sleep support your mental & physical health and find a schedule that makes you feel the best! Good luck!
P.S. A lot of you mentioned the book that explains our internal body clock: Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker - thank you! Just wanted to share it again here for anyone who needs it.

I believe the key is consistency- you need to go to bed and get up at the same time every day. And don’t take a nap for the first week. It is tough, but letting yourself sleep in at the beginning makes the process take longer. I have a son and 2 dogs so sleeping in doesn’t really happen but having a better sleep schedule does make me feel better and be more productive overall.

I am on that Vampire night owl schedule and have been on it for over a year. I need to reverse this in the next couple weeks and I don’t know how I’m gonna break this habit. It’s just so hard for me to wind down at night and my boyfriend gets off work at 12:30 AM so I’m naturally up late at night because that’s when I see him. But if I want to go to my parents house for Christmas and see my niece and nephew and my sister whom I have not seen in four years they all go to bed at 10 PM and are up by 7 AM. They are not OK with me sleeping in past 10 AM.

This was so honest that it's very refreshing! I think one thing that sabotages you is the fact that you put multiple alarms. I did this exact same thing before, but when I decided to change it to just one alarm, it really made a change, mostly because at some point you freak out you're going to sleep in if you don't move right with that single alarm. I admit at first it was tough, but at the long term it was the only thing that worked for me to make it a consistent habit :) *Good luck*

So, I'm also a nightowl. I used to think this was something people made up as an excuse as to why they stayed up late and got up late. However, I read a book called "why we sleep" by Matthew Walker and it taught me so much! Being a nightowl is a real, scientific thing! We have an internal bodyclock, and for nightowls it's basically impossible to go to sleep before midnight. I won't go into the detailed science of it but we basically don't have the right chemicals in our body before that telling us to go to sleep. For us, going to bed around 1am or 2am and getting up at 9 or 10am is the best! So, your idea of getting up at 9.30 is great!
Ever since reading this book I've really focused more on getting the right amount of sleep and it feels really good when I get it right!

I think this video can teach us all a very valuable lesson:that failure is the path to success. With social media constanstly portraing only the best parts of people's lives it is very easy to fall into the trap of 'why is everyone so perfect while I am just ...me... aka a complete mess'. Here in this video you are really doing something different, you are showing your fans that success comes not only with effort but also with a good amount of different attempts. Also... I absolutely LOVE the idea for the new series. Hope you will keep showing the whole process as, seriously, it is a WONDERFUL IDEA!!!

This is the most relatable video I have ever seen!!! I don't understand how most of my friends function on 5-6 hours a night. I need at least 8.
The thing that has helped me the most is being strict with my routine which means going to bed at the exact same time every night and waking up at the same time each morning. I've found that being flexible with the times just makes it so much harder the next day. If you can't stick to your times it will help so much!

Wow, this made me think about how it is all about the mindset and also, how important it really is to just focus on YOUR own best.
When I wake up at 10 am, I seriously want to die haha. It feels so late for me, and I'm feeling that guilt throughout the entire day. Waking at 7-8 is ideal for me and what I always aim for. Yet, for you, 10 am would be ideal and much better than 1pm.
So although it is great to collect inspiration and motivation from one another, it really shows how the most important thing is to focus on yourself and listen to your body and gut feeling and do what's right for you.

Omgoodness this is and has been SO ME for so many years... but I’ve been wanting to change my mindset & habits for a while now. I’m a stay at home mom, turned stay at home wife now that my kids are grown & I’ve always been productive & creative at night while everyone is sleeping. However, I ended up becoming a morning grouch and I hate when my phone rings before noon. If I don’t have anything pressing to get up for, I’d rather sleep BUT I’m missing out on reading, eating, spiritual enlightenment, exercise, etc. I’m definitely gona try the tips you shared here!!

It’s really refreshing to see a vlogger or whatever being authentic about the time you wake up. I’ve never been a morning person. Even when I was a kid I hated mornings and going to bed early. It’s hard for me to get out of bed when my alarm goes off. Sometimes I’ll hit snooze for two hours.... Anyways excited for this series. Good inspiration for me to try and get going earlier so I’m not rushing to work.

It is honestly so refreshing to see someone who is not preaching waking up at 5 am to be successful. Your sleeping habits are so real and I resonated so much with them, as I too have always been more productive at night. Ever since my student days, I always felt that my focus was at its peak at night, so I usually left the most daunting part of studying for the evening. I guess my sleeping habits have been messed up ever since. I am quite worried what is going to happen when I start my first 9-to-5 job soon, as I can't really function properly for at least an hour after I wake up early haha. So thank you Aileen for being so real and honest, I am going to try doing this challenge as well.

Wow - this is amazing to me. I couldn’t imagine sleeping that much. If I happen to sleep past 8 I generally wake up with a migraine. I have been getting up at 5 am to finish a book I am writing and while it was challenging the first few days, my body adopted to the change and now I naturally tend to wake up a bit before 5. I guess we all have very different nocturnal systems. It’s a good thing you have a successful RUclips channel so you can support yourself and not have to comply to traditional work schedules. Best of luck in your continued quest to master this challenge!

I swear we are just on the same wavelength on Everything! I have not seen anyone else who makes self-development content view sleeping like this or have the same perspective as me. Society tends to view productivity and success correlated to waking up very early and having lack of sleep, but everyone has different sleep cycles. And sleep is SO important! I applaud you for being your authentic self & sharing your truth, even though it may feel a bit taboo. @Brittany FFF True. What bothers me is that I can't sleep in even when I need to. Like when I go to bed around 2 am and I automatically wake up at 7 am and can't fall asleep anymore. It's really annoying. I go through the day already exhausted because I didn't sleep well.

I started to wake up at 4am just because I have zero energy after work and I can’t focus on my passions so I shifted my schedule to do things I love before work and sleep after work & gym. Hi Aileen! I've been binge-watching your videos for a few weeks now and this hits different I need to comment haha. Thank you for uploading this video. I've accepted the fact that I do not enjoy waking up early and was only doing that because society expects me to (school/work)~ I always feel guilty about it and always have this thought that I NEED to learn to wake up way earlier than my natural wake up time. Watching this, I realized that people like us exist and I just have to learn how to be more productive at the later time of the day so I won't feel very guilty about waking up late :D

  • @frenchfluency
    @frenchfluency 6 лет назад +6

Get your life together challenge : I love the idea! There are a number of these areas in which I'll happily follow along :)
Regarding sleep, I thought I'd give you something to be grateful for ;-) Have you considered that being able to sleep late could actually be a bonus?
I know it sounds like a great problem to have, but I *cannot* sleep after 6 AM. I trained myself to wake up early at some point in my 20s, and now, no matter how late I go to bed or fall asleep, I wake up at 6 regardless of anything else. And then I can't sleep again until the night. So if I'm lacking sleep, I just have to slug through the day, typically very unproductively and hope that I will sleep better the next night.
So right now my sleep challenge is to 1) be in bed at 10:30 no matter what - and 2) try to read something that doesn't excite me so I do fall asleep early enough.

Hey Aileen, thank you so much for being honest, I loved this! I used to struggle with my sleep schedule and still am when I am not obligated to wake up for an event or for work. My friends know that I will not make any appointments before 11 am on the weekend :D But I think it helps to not be too hard on yourself and accept that you are only human. I noticed though that I feel much more happy in the mornings and I sometimes get anxious in the evenings. Not get out of bed but stay on social media then fall back asleep right when I should be getting up. Then sleep in past 10 am. Then my whole day is messed up. Or other times I get up early, take a nap in the afternoon for several hours, and the whole messed up cycle starts again.
