Thank you for the Video Terry Swoope I Remember her She was Married to K. R. S. I. I missed Boogie down production She was A Wonderful Rapper Rest In Peace 🕊️🕊️🕊️ I missed Positive Rapper and Positive Messages That was my favorite song
Ms Melodie was a beautiful woman. I remember seeing her in the Self destruction video sitting at the head of the table with her fur coat on and l was like YESSSSS!!!!!
Always loved her and I wish more people talked about her life and her contribution to music. She demanded respect and I miss her. She was glamorous and beautiful.
No disrespect, but I don't see her being as big a Latifah. But it is sad that the record labels didn't get behind her and other positive artists! It is a document fact that the industry pushed negative rap music like gangsta rap, 30 plus years ago for the demise of the black community. This is why artists like Ms Melody didn't get much radio play and now part of the unforgetten.
@@crw3673 I don’t see why not Ms Melody had the best Mc coach in the industry KRS One...but I understand what ur saying as far the negatively they pushed and still want today
@@spank2424 okay I agree with the best Mc coach. And maybe if there wasn't a shift in pushing gangsta rap, maybe she would have shined? Charles Barkley once said, their were a handful of basketball players that he thought were better than Jordan. For one reason or another, they didn't make it to the NBA. Sometimes it's just timing. Being in the right place at the right time.
Self-destruction is a great song. Boogie Down Productions was on it back in the day when it came to telling stories from the inner city. They were about something. I love what they stood for. RIP Ms. Melodie.
Female Rappers They don't Have To Be Dressing Half Naked To Prove A Point I missed The Female Rappers from the 1980's and 1990's Early 2000's When They had Respect for Themselves
Just a mention of this forgotten legend Ms Melodie is a big deal and means a lot to most of us from that golden Era of Hip Hop. This is appreciated.Thank you!.
What she is saying is the truth. A lot of female MCs back in the 80s and early 90s were hard on the mic in terms of rhymes, but we’re still very feminine in both appearance and demeanor. Rappers like Ms. Melodie, Yo-Yo, Latifah, Sweet Tee, Antoinette, Monie Love, and MC Trouble were all nice on the mic and still very feminine. All of that started to change around 1993 when the G-Funk era took over.
I thank you for this small look/documentary of rap artist Ms Melody. I also didn't know she was formally married to KRS 1, until her passing. I think what she was trying to say in her interview was you can come off hard, without looking or sounding like a man. I commend KRS 1 and B.D.P for seeing a problem in our community and trying to do something about. He saw how rap music influenced our culture and try to do something positive. But the label and the powers that be, didn't get behind him and other artists that moved towards positive Hip Hop.
You are right about vinyl being worth money. I’m a former rare album collector and still hold onto much of my collection. I even have records that date back to the 1930’s. And even rare cassettes and cd’s are worth a nice amount of money as well.
I found out much later that Ms. Melodie and KRS-ONE were married. When Self-Destruction came out, that was rap worth listening to. I honestly thought that she was still alive. Sorry to know that she isn't 😔. But that last pic in this video,, TSV, I think is the best!
Omg I did not kno Ms.Melodie had pass away I am rly sorry hearing about her passing. RIP Ms.Melodie u will always be remembered & miss💯😢😢🖤✌🏿 .. I am a real big fan of krs-1💯🖤✌🏿
🌬🌤This is BLACK people "TRUTHS" being SERVED UP not as a CULTural FASHION STATEMENT but as a SAVING GRACE for the CULTure of DEGENERACY and DEATH OF "SELF DESTRUCTION"! *(🙏🏽REAL REAL RESPECT FOR Ms MELODIE G♡D BLESS 😇HER SOUL RIP💐)!!!
She was a pioneer in women’s rap and rap in general. I knew they were married but I don’t know how long. Thanks for shedding light on some of the people and pioneers that history seems to have forgotten.
Wow she was a style Icon! She had on better drip than everyone. Her hair was super fly and her makeup was flawless! She also had a lot of sex appeal. She was so beautiful and classy. She reminds me of how Tokyo Vanity looks today. I knew she had passed, but I thought it was way before 2012 because she did leave the rap scene and the media. I really wonder what was her cause of death? I am 44 now. I hate she died so young and she was a beast on the mic. With the right direction she could have been a superstar.
Hey terry i have alot of vinlys too i want to know if u would do story on one of the baddest groups too come out of the purple highness camp PRINCE ! the groups name is mazarati they had songs 100mph. strawberry lover etc....
..Thank you for covering this uPdate on Queen Ms. Melodie (Rock In Paradise) Terry (R.I.P.), I would luV to hear more about your uPbringing, origins, viewpoints, etc. hopefully your awesome brother will soon provide some more videos about this topic asap!!! ❤️💙💚
I remember listening to self-destruction with my older brother in the morning while waiting for the school bus 🚌 when little kids and their older siblings rode the bus together. I barely had no idea who the rappers were on the track at the time, but loved the rap. Great and fun times! RIP Ms Melodie
This is an Awesome video Sir. I really enjoyed receiving this information. I am a Super Fan of KRS ONE, Boogie Down Productions, Ms. Melody and the rest of the Crew. She was really a stand alone female Rap Artist that set an example and a positive one with her subtle female rap style at that time. I never forgot old school Hip Hop even here in 2023. I listened to the Blastmaster Yesterday. Just stating these things out of much passion for the culture that was set and continued by the Foundational Groups from back in the day.
I grew up on ms melody!!! She Was full size real black woman !!!! She was definitely classy an wore it very well!!!! No disrespect but Lizzo should take notes!!!
RIP ms melodie!! I remember her from back in the day and remember her passing but never knew the cause of death!! I used to think that she was that lady on new jack city that pulled pookie off of the crack head in the alley right before ice t came in and threw him against the wall!! 😂
Rest in eternal Power, Queen. If there's one rapper... 'scuse me, I mean MC that is similar to Ms Melodie then it has to be the REAL Queen of Hip Hop today, Rapsody. But Melodie was in same era with Latifah, Lyte, Yo-Yo, Monie Love, all who are, in my opinion the original queen's of hip hop. It's such a shame Melodie was taken from us so soon. Speaking of 90s female hip hop artists, y'all remember Bo$$? She was one my personal best MC's. Another true talent that disappeared. Thank you for another great and informative video ✌🏾
Yes and I just found out about her passing last night and right now this morning so much 21st 2022 I can't believe I I just found that so many things happen in 2012 that's the Year my son got almost killed by a truck wow me you're so rest in peace Rip 🙏 I miss you forever
Thank you for doing this video on Ms. Melody. Queen Latifah, Ms Melody, MC Lyte, Roxanne Shantel, Heater B, Monie Love, Missy, Salt & Pepper and Oaktown 357 were and still is our role models that motivated me and others to be the best in our fields.
Thank you for the Video Terry Swoope I Remember her She was Married to K. R. S. I. I missed Boogie down production She was A Wonderful Rapper Rest In Peace 🕊️🕊️🕊️ I missed Positive Rapper and Positive Messages That was my favorite song
Her and Lizzo favor one another very much
Ms. Melodie and other female rappers had what these female rappers of today don't....CLASS 💯
Yup!
Absolutely. Love her

I didn’t know Ms. Melodie passed away…May God Rest her soul; she’s truly a legend.
I knew they was married, they was rapping about what was going on in our hood. I like her!❤️💯👍🏾
Me too. Rap stood for something besides endless bars about sex, murder, drugs and material possessions.
She would’ve been just as big as Queen Latifah!
@The Dragon Manifest Show RIGHT I didn’t say I like Q
No disrespect, but I don't see her being as big a Latifah. But it is sad that the record labels didn't get behind her and other positive artists! Latifah was an actress also, so that's what helped her career. She didn't have as much exposure as that.
When it's a full figured black woman, she is not considered to be beautiful, just talented. Ms. Melodie was both beautiful and talented.
Self-destruction is a great song. Boogie Down Productions was on it back in the day when it came to telling stories from the inner city. They were about something. I love what they stood for. RIP Ms. Melodie.
Self destruction.. it was one of my favorite tracks growing up and it remains so.. I still listen to it in my playlist on apple music..
Loved Her!!!!! She bodied "self destruction".♥️❤️💯
True, But they all did in my opinion! Everybody on the track
God they were young with intelligence. I'm 24 now and I've never seen intellectual artist in my life. My dad's generation was so blessed.
You're so right, keep seeking the truth and positivity you'll be blessed and find it.
Rest in peace Ms. Melody you are missed!
I soooo miss female rappers like this. I always wondered what her cause of death was since she was so young....🤔
RIP TO ONE OF THE QUEENS OF RAP,MS MELODIE💐💐💐,I LOVED HER,,,THANKS FOR THE VIDEO MR SWOOPE 👍👍👍

And she was great in live shows . rest easy queen .

Self Destruction was the jam! Positive deep meaning, I'll add...its how Ms. Melodie and KRS rolled anyway.
You are right about vinyl being worth money. I’m a former rare album collector and still hold onto much of my collection. I even have records that date back to the 1930’s. And even rare cassettes and cd’s are worth a nice amount of money as well.

Her and K.R.S. One was married before she passed away! This is old news. Especially to people who watched Video Music Box, MTV Jams, etc.
Yes,this is true. It doesn't make her story any less interesting, though.
I didn't know they were married either.

Not taking anything away from Ms Melodie's contribution to Hip Hop but unfortunately she didn't have big enough catalog or presence for a documentary
Yes she do a documentary is about her life her childhood her teenagers her adulthood her marriage to KRS1
Self Destruction came out in 88. But anyway Ms. Melodie was dope
