    Funny to me how people think this stock cap was intended to be permanent. I have a '15 ED and will use mine until it breaks and probably score a new one. Mostly just for my own peace of mind. I was a fleet manager and had 50 trucks with capless fuel systems and hundreds of thousands of miles later no known related issues to no fuel caps but on my personal I feel better with something there.

    Its capless. That green thing is for delivery from factory. Most dealers just don't take it off. The fuel door has a rubber seal on it and doesn't let water through.

    • @RamEcoDieselSource
      @RamEcoDieselSource  8 лет назад +2

      I wouldn't run it without the plug all the grit and water would get trapped in there rubber seal or not and get washed down into the tank

      +hidmagnum yeah thats what my dealer told me to. I keep the plastic cap in there though. dread the day I loose it with all the gravel I drive.

      threw that plug away long time ago in 2014, to this day not a spec of dust or dirt in the fuel fill area. This new systems are capless and that little green plug is just for delivery purposes only.

      ShadyVlogz actually there are two doors in the filler nozzle. Top one is to protect from debris there is a second one about 3 inches that seales very well and the overflow drain is just above it in case any water passes threw the first flap. The plastic cap is actually for the folks who live up North and deal with harsh elements ie. Snow freezing temps and road salt. Because in low temps the fuel dooe rubber isn't as soft and things will get threw it. This was told to me by the Midwest Ram Area supervisor. I used to work for FCA and got some more in-depth knowledge on why things worked they way they do or why they made things like they did.

    I bought one of these also, but you have to be careful with the O-rings, make it CLEAR to the seller that you want ALL the O-rings. I had both and they had to send me a third one because the two that it came with did NOT fit. They didn't charge me for it, but honestly, for the cost of an O ring, they could have saved themselves shipping costs and saved me the time to wait for it to arrive.

    • @rooh5825
      @rooh5825 6 лет назад

      Oh, and one other thing, do NOT drop it on the ground, the aluminum gets tore up REALLY easily, because, well, it is aluminum, which is soft. I'd almost prefer a more sturdy plastidipped cap that could take a little more abuse.

    I made my own out of a chunk of plastic. I also have it clipped to a zip cord so I won't lose it. it does make you wonder what the heck ram was thinking when they made the capless system.

      There are electric heaters in the tanks and lines already.

      I know it’s old video, I just went through frozen DEF gauge. We took off tank and washed out with hot water… working great. Now I only fill tank half in winter. No more problems as the heater can keep DEF warm… full tank of DEF too much for heater. 👍🇨🇦👍

    Mine didn't come with the cheap plastic cap and they told me the seal around the fuel door would keep dirt and whatnot out. I still bought a magnetic metal cap like that anyway since I drive my truck on dirt roads on the farm a lot. I'm sure it's not necessary right away, but I'm not sure how long the seal on the door will hold up, better safe than sorry.

    • @RamEcoDieselSource
      @RamEcoDieselSource  8 лет назад +1

      +You Tube do not trust that door the Fords have the same seal on the door and their cap less systems are having problems left and right

    • @ComputersForNerds
      @ComputersForNerds 8 лет назад

      +Ram EcoDiesel Source I can see that happening. I can also imagine someone forgetting to close the fuel door and drive down a dirt road, causing all kinds of crap to get in the tank. This is definitely a poor design on their part. Thanks for warning us before it's too late.

    • @billdeckelman6578
      @billdeckelman6578 6 лет назад

      Don't blame you. I bought a new Dually had it for 4 days and looked in the filler door and it had ice in the plug ram had in there. So I bought a metal plug. It's in the truck I kept.

  • @BCRichWarlock08
    @BCRichWarlock08 4 года назад

    I had mine before i had my truck. Im really not a fan of those new vehicles with no gas caps, dust still finds a way to get in no matter what. And in winter its ice and humidity

  • @jacobz3400
    @jacobz3400 8 лет назад +1

  • @eldoradony

    I thought I had seen it all when Ford went to the cap less fuel filler. This tops that. Its disgraceful. The plastic plug looks like a throw away. Even the upgrade is unsatisfactory. Either way you will need a nitrile gloves to fuel your tank or you will go home smelling like a diesel/oil burner tech.

    • @FoosaStomp
      @FoosaStomp 5 лет назад

      4 years later my plastic cap is just fine and with a retaining cord never lets me down and no smelly hands, i usually get diesel on them from the dispenser anyhow and not my cheapo filler cap. I do like the billet cap and will probably upgrade now.

  • @hidmagnum

    Cleanest part of my truck is behind the fuel door. But to each their own. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just letting you know that it doesn't need to have a cap, and in not having a cap the check engine light doesn't come on. I think that's evidence of the design working properly.

    • @RamEcoDieselSource
      @RamEcoDieselSource  8 лет назад

      +hidmagnum Most housing have plenty of grit in them from my experience working on the Fords the past 10 years and I wouldn't want anything collecting in that recess. Correct no light will come on as the diesel fuel systems do not have an onboard vapor recovery system or monitor.

    • @hidmagnum
      @hidmagnum 8 лет назад

      +Ram EcoDiesel Source That's because they're Ford's! I'm just kidding. I think the grit and water you're seeing are on older trucks. After 5-10 years in service I'm sure the rubber seal will not flex as much like when new. And if water and dirt were to be getting behind the door, I'd take it back to the dealer for warranty work. No warranty? OK i'll buy the cap or keep the cheap one that came with the truck and people will never see.

    Wow, I can't believe Chrysler was that cheap with the fuel cap on that expensive of a truck. I guess that's what happens after years of multiple bankruptcies and government bailouts and failed attempts to pawn the brand off to to Daimler-Benz and Fiat. They can't even afford to run in NASCAR anymore either! So glad Brian is a Ford guy at heart!

    Fuel SYSTEM upgrade? It's a cap. Seriously wtf. A cap upgrade is fine but call it that.

    • @RamEcoDieselSource
      @RamEcoDieselSource  7 лет назад +1

      Fuel system cleanliness in a diesel is the most important upgrade you can do. The injection timing is so precise minor specks of dirt or metals can cause $20k in fuel system destruction we used to see it all the time at the dealer working on the Ford diesels. These new low emission ultra precise systems are not tolerant at all of foreign material.

    • @billmalec
      @billmalec 7 лет назад +1

      That's all fine and dandy but if someone is searching for a cap replacement, they're not going to view a video entitled fuel system upgrade.
