my gramps was one of the guys that got to work with them. They were real life savers.
my grandpa was Oglala Lakota Sioux who served in the Pacific in world war 2 he went to New Caledonia, New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan and I never heard him complain about his time in the army he said he loved being in the army so when he was honorably discharged in 1946 he severed 13 years in the national guard and and every holiday he began a tradition of putting the American flag up on every holiday he has a bronze star medal he passed away in 2009 he was great man he taught me so much he was alive
Native Dude: Your grandfather was a warrior.
A real American hero. God rest him.
There were other 32 or more different native tribes that served as code talker in ww2 dont forget but the Navajo was the largest

A photograph that brought me to tears was in the Four Corners area of the US. The photo showed a very rustic one story adobe building. It was clearly in Navaho country. Displayed in front or on the building was an American Flag and a Marine Corps Flag.
Semper Fi!
Amazing and brave Native American Indian Marines and Soldiers.
Indians live in India... just because Columbus got it wrong... now we know he didn’t know the fuck what he was looking at.... I am one who calls themselves Native American! My forefathers were not born in India that’s for sure!

There were also cree code talkers in Canada also
Native from NM. My Great grandpa was in Germany during WW2. I'm proud and happy to be here. 🇺🇸
I’m a Navajo. So just hearing this makes me proud. We were a big part of WW2 despite the hardships we went through before we became US. I read a book about this and it said that no code talkers complained about boot camp because we were use to everything that the boot camp brought to us. From the heat, living in poor conditions and the stress. We kicked ass and I wish others would notice that.
You are such a great people thank you God bless
Just came across your video! Enjoyed your reaction, I’m actually Navajo and the veteran who spoke last is my Grandfather, his name is Peter McDonald and he served as Navajo Nation President. Love seeing and hearing their story more!
I'M CANADIAN, AND I'M NATIVE ,SO PROUD WATCHING AND LISTENING TO THIS AMERICAN HERO....THANK YOU...
The second Codetalker is Peter McDonald, he is my cheíí (maternal grandfather). They are, one of many reasons why I became a Marine.
Guess that makes us family he’s also my Cheii , Small world
As 21 year old Navajo they want me to serve my country and carry on the legacy 🇺🇸🦅
@@tonyhardy1220 do what is best for you and what you are willing to put your heart into. You will not regret it...
Peter Macdonald is a navajo code talker but not from WW2 because he was 17 during 1945, so he would possibly be a Korean war Navajo Code Talker.
(It's illegal to enlist under 18 yrs in the marine corps, since 1917)
My two Drill sergeants at 2017, knew a few navajo battle buddies in Afghanistan. They told me they were highspeed and very humble people. That's why they were hard on me for a reason as a respect to them. I got smoked many times but I learned alot in those first months. It all paid off.
I met the last living Navajo code talker, chester nez in 2014 in Window rock Arizona on the Navajo reservation for Navajo code talker day. He was a great man and im glad I met him and helped his reservation
Still gives me goosebumps.. we’re living in gallup and not a native, not american but I’m so proud of them
I'm navajo. I was tearing up hearing my elders speak. Thank you.
Born and raise in gallup and vamderwagon!!!
It's often understated the impact that the allies had in the pacific theatre of having a code the Japanese couldn't break. These Gentlemen deserve more credit than they get given.
Even more embarrassing because we were breaking their codes constantly.
Navajo code talkers 💪💪
Proud to be Díne ✊🏽❤️
I bet the Japanese were crapping in their britches when they heard these guys speaking this stuff over the radio. They had to know that this thing was over. Thank you so much to these brave Navajo warriors...
They were scared but they did their duty in the face of their fear. That's real courage from real heroes.
Ya at eeh! Hailing from Arizona, I’ve had the honor of working beside Navajo as well as other Native Americans (Apache, Yaqui, Hopi). They don’t watch the clock. You have to physically go and tell them that it’s break time, lunch time, or time to end the day. I Miss Them And Remember All of Them Fondly.
We're lucky to still have the Navajo Code Talkers. Absolute legends 💪
These are wonderful men. A national treasure. They should be role models for our youth. Thank you Jameson.
A wonderful story of some great Americans. Also, one of the Marines who raised the flag on Iwo Jima was a Pima Indian--Ira C. Hayes.
What another great Amazing man and one of the greatest americans who ever lived
Ira Hayes was Pima indian. But yes, still impressive
Windtalkers would probably have to be my favorite military movie. The "Code" is still to this day one of the coolest tactics that the US military has ever utilized. It is even cooler seeing the ORIGINAL Americans getting to be the heroes, it was long past due and they should be remembered and honored forever.
I work with a guy who's grandfather was one of these guys, he had a great quote, "When I was a child they tried to take my language away from me, then they asked me to use it to help save the country that tried to take it from me, so I did"
Damn that's a powerful statement. I'm navajo from Arizona. My mom always tells us stories about how her and the rest of the children on the rez were rounded up and taken to boarding schools. They weren't allowed to speak their language and had to practice Christianity. They only got to see their parents twice a year...if that.
They don't call the folks from that era the greatest generation for nothin' - the Navajo Code Talkers were awesome - what a great idea to encrypt secret messages
Always amazed by the code talkers. First tear that has hi my eye.. in years.Thank you for your service Brother.

Hey you did a reaction to my people. Your the only one that has done so (to my knowledge.) My uncle was one of the first 29. He helped to develop the code. Unfortunately the first 29 are gone now and there are only a few of the other 400 are still with us. It saddens me to see the obituaries in the newspaper appearing like every other week.
Wow! That’s cool that your uncle was one of the 29! I’m sorry he passed, did you get to know him?

When he started speaking Navaho it gave me chills. This man was a witness to a complex and deadly situation in which he certainly had a right to avoid. The Marine Corps teaches pride and places a strong emphasis on it's history. The famed coded talkers have been woven into our proud traditions and we are proud of them. I like to think they were proud to be us as well. I am sure his boot camp experience was way harder than mine and I was only expected to speak English and do as I was told with a quickness. Semper Fi!
These guys; The Code Talkers, were recently brought up in a conversation I had with a friend. I hope this guy knows he & the others (if still alive) are not forgotten.
helping the nation that wiped more than 70% of your people and be proud while doing it. That is one of the traits a true warrior has. I am sure he had his own moral issues with the american culture but when he was named soldier he and others like him did his job. I saw over youtube and movies a lot of natives doing their job very good. If i hadn't quit drinking i would hold one up for the old man. He sure seen some shit in his time and grow old enough to tell the tales. And yea, i can't even imagine how hard was for him to come in contact with civilised(more or less) young americans while he comes from some remote village in a reservation.
90%
lol native Americans were always civilized so it probably wasn't a shock
They didn't want to b ruled by Germany or Japan so they chose to fight them despite the way they were treated by the Anglo Americans. Many Navajos n other Native tribes had fought in WWI as well. It was nothing new. Some Navajos served in military fighting Apaches n Poncho Villa. When WWI started many of them showed up at recruitment wearing their old US Army uniforms n old rifles.
My great grandpa harold evans was issued his name from the US and he became a navajo code talker(they couldn't pronounce his name is what I'm told). He always took me fishing and when I was 7, I asked about the war... He refused to tell me. I love my grandpa cause we caught a lot of trout in Tsaile Lake untile he died when I turned 13. I will say he made really good scrambled eggs but his gun lessons were strict and I remember being very intimidated but hunting season came and every elk kill he did... he always thanked the elk and said a prayer for it for feeding us. Different breed of man is made from war and I respect it cause I've never lived military life but I'm so proud to be a native american.
Good to go! I met some fellow Navajo Marines at Camp Pendleton MCT in 1994. I'm half Ojibwe (Chippewa) and half Wisconsin Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) but a Red Lake Chippewa enrollee. There were some Ho-Chunk code talkers in WW2 also. An enlistment in the US military is what most of us just do as young men/women. Also an older relative of mine is Medal of Honor recipient Mitchell Red Cloud US Army KIA in Korea but in WW2 he was in the USMC. Semper Fi :)
Fabulous Marines! I have attended the funerals of 6 who have passed away here in Arizona! I honor them and all fallen Marines everyday! Semper Fi!
4:17 I love how he goes "What does that mean" with an implied "None of you know what that means".
What never had ceased to amaze me is how humble/modest these men and women are/were of the greatest generation. My grandfather was in the Army Aircorp and helped retake the Philippine Islands. My Grandfather in law was a pilot in Europe. His crew was one of the first to complete 25 missions. Neither men would talk about the war, but would tell funny stories about their buddies. Tom Brokaw's book about the Greatest Generation described both men to a T.
Respect to you for giving that gentleman the last word.

I used to do Electrical Controls consulting in Power Plants; I did some worked in New Mexico & Arizona. A large number of the Plant Personal were Navajo. When they found out I was a Marine Vietnam Veteran, I became family. One of my best friends while working for ABB (my parent company) was Gary Sandoval. Flags of our fathers is a good movie about Jima. Not to put any other part of war down, or be disrespectful to other types of combat, but in my opinion, it would be particularly scary being a young sailor aboard a ship where you were sat down under, in your rack, and can hear the shelling, then the ship goes down and you're trapped, the feeling of helplessness would get me. Respect to all veterans, I just think a sailor on a ship in WW2 would be terrifying
I rather be on a ship than fighting underground.

Other Native American tribes were part of this too. Hopi was one. Sadly, I don't believe we have any living members. EDIT: Also Hopi veteran and great video sir. Cool to see Natives recognized.
Yes their were many native American tribes that participated in the code talker program, I think Hopi was sent to Europe with the Cheyenne and the Navajo and Apache were sent to the Pacific.
But the reason why Navajo is most represented in WW2 because they had no vocabulary or dialect to study so the axis powers wouldn't be able to crack Navajo.
Hope this answers your question 😊
