the story & actions of the Navajo codetalkers is truly amazing. even after being oppressed by their govt they still showed unwavering loyalty & bravery for their country. This shows what type of character these men had. Your grandfather and all the Navajo who served deserve our thanks.
It's humbling to know that a language and culture we tried to suppress eventually saved our country in our most desperate hour. The Navajo could easily told the Marines to get bent. But instead they stepped up when they had every reason not too. True American heros.
One of my students is the great-grandson of a Code Talker. It's such a shame these heroes had to wait so long to receive the honors they so richly deserved. God bless all of them, living in this world and the next.

From a fellow Marine (1952-55) and radioman who grew up as a boy not too far from Shiprock, NM, THANK YOU for your service to our 'mother'. You will never be forgotten and you will be honored always among our people and the Dineh.
I, a Mexican desendent and raised in this U.S. Nation , I have always admired and I salute , to the Native Americans that follow and charish deeply their traditions and customs. They are the True Great Americans of this land. Thank you for your great spirit of honor and breave hearts.
When I was 5-6 I had the honor of meeting a code talker. He was a very kind and genuine person. I had no idea who he was or what he had done, but I wish I could thank him now. He is a true hero. God bless
I'm so proud to be navajo i'm glad to see that the nation is finally giving them the honor they rightfully deserve. And for some the honor came to late but they will never be forgotten. There life and there achivements will be passed through there generations. There sacerfices will never be forgotten.
Words will never express how we feel about our Code Talkers so I all I can say is that I am truly humbled and honored that I can breath the same air as these men.
Ya'a't'eeh...CODE TALKERS daniliniigii biniinaah nihighan t'ah nidi nihi. (Hello, because of the Code Talkers is why we still have this FREE NATION), once being punished for speaking out own language, that's the same language that set us free & helped us win the war. Where is that in the history books. I gotta say. I am a proud Navajo/Sioux woman. I live in beauty, walk in beauty, and beauty above me, beauty below me. Our brave warriors went to save our Nation. Now we must embrace it.
so proud of my people to this day it brings me tears and joy. I lost my daddy fromhis health condition thru VEITNAM COMBAT duty. proud to be a daughter of a VEITNAM VETERAN.may we never forget them but to honor all VETERANS.
My great grandfather was a Navajo Code Talker he is from my extended family. I don't know him. He might have gone to walk the ghost path with the rest of his ancestors i do not know. But he is a hero to me and to all the men and women serving in all the branches of the U.S. Military. I thank the great spirit everyday for his selfless service to our great country.
What a remarkable culture and exquisite language. Considering what the government and the military that obeyed it did to the First People of this continent it shows the honor, loyalty and dedication of their warriors to volunteer to defend a nation that is slow to learn from the past. May we never forget the horrors of the past but learn from them so that our nation may continue to unite us all as one. E pluribus unum; out of many, one.
* tear * they finally recognized our Dine' Language, but what saddens and breaks my heart is that our people don't speak or understand Navajo. We should be proud of our language...
You live in beauty What a shame you brave and wonderfull people were not left alone to live a life free from modern day horrors. I'm welsh from the UK. I admire so much the native American old way of life. We would do well to live in the Indian way
I'm Navajo and I'm going to the military after high school and I'm going to the navy and to become a SEAL and maybe the first navajo to be one the real reason I'm going to military is to honor my people and these heroes and make a mark so others can join and honor my family I am inspired by these heroes and what they stood by to join and fight and die for their families and land and mother earth the one that provides for us life and peace among us and that one day i would be telling my grandchildren about my life in the navy and to give them a story that will live on forever I'm proud to be Dine the first people Edit: Boy, look at this. Hey guys, its been a two years now and yeah, I'm not in the Navy or in training. I'm in College now. I soon realize that my dream wasn't practical at all. I should take back my promises and hold my head up and say I'm not a Navy SEAL or part of the Navy. Thank you for the support of my past dream.
This is a very strong and proud tribute to the fantastic NAVAJO DIŃE CODE TALKERS during World War II. The singing & music by Jay Begay combined with all the wonderful imagery of the Navajo Marines being honored was lovely and memorable to me. Thank you RezboyDesignz, for creating this 10 minute well done expression of esteem.
when i was a little kid in the 1950s, my father, who was a bit over half ndn, told me how the code talkers won world war II in the pacific. it was one of the many ways he taught me to be proud of who & what i am, when so many of my generation were taught to be ashamed. i had no idea the government made it classified information until sometime in the 70s, i thought everybody knew.
I want those brave men to know I'm very proud of them. My greatuncle was a Marine in WWII. Near the end of the war, he was wounded in the leg. He won the Purple Heart. He later served in Korea, and survived. The Navajo Code Talkers may have played a role in saving my greatuncle's life. There's also a memorial statue to those brave men in Phoenix, Arizona. My greatuncle was a true American hero. Don't you dare forget that!

I am forever thankful for my ancestors and my people. Hozo' a goh' Walk in Beauty.
If you haven't read Code Talkers, by Chester Nez (with Judith Avila), you should! As a person who knew very little about the culture, it was an amazing read. To understand the true sacrifice, you have to understand the culture. I HIGHLY recommend it! My father was a WWII code breaker, so I understand the secrecy and lack of acknowledgement. He broke a top secret code Japanese code. We just published a book about it called, Breaking the Code (Sourcebooks, 2011). -Karen Fisher-Alaniz
I just want to thank each and every Native American that was a true warrior may the great spirit be with you one and all nothing but peace and love may you always walk in the light of the lamb and never in the darkness of Shadows hallelujah amen

What a brave group of men, the Japanese NEVER broke the code. They saved thousands of lives. They were always paired up with another marine that would shoot them instead of being captured, interrogated and or tortured. The great Navajo warrior's.

Karen's right... it's a great book. I had the chance to interview Chester Nez a couple weeks ago with a group of college students. He's 91 years old and the last of The Original 29 Navajo Code Talkers. He's a great man, and very humble. His book is a fascinating look at his life and the lives of many Code Talkers.
It was actually an amazing benefit to the US side to have a language spoken by a group of people with the exact attributes they were looking for: Navajo was not related to any other living languages, sounds completely alien to anyone who doesn't understand it, it was understood by a small group of people residing only inside of North America, there were no written histories or even examples outside of the country to research, it had never been taught to people outside of the Nation and thus no one residing in a foreign nation could teach an enemy country, the grammar and syntax are very unique linguistically which would make decoding nearly impossible and it had no words for modern combat such as "tank" and "bomb" so they could create a new, even more complex wordset for them.
