They shouldn't market this as JFK's country retreat. It was ALL Jackie Kennedy's vision, planning and escape. He bought the property to placate Jackie's desire to escape DC's fishbowl and her love of riding. The fact that she planned something so tasteful instead of something huge and obnoxious is a testament to her breeding and good taste,

Nancy Reagan said that her time at Wexford during the 1980 campaign was the happiest memory of that period in their life. Liz Taylor and her husband then senator John Warner were neighbors, and greeted them when they arrived. Ronald Reagan would go horse riding there. As a presidential historian, I would love to own this property and be surrounded by the history of these two Irish American presidents.

The plaque said " Nov. 16, 1963 ". That's only six days before the assassination, not two weeks. She should pay attention !!

JFK tolerated Jackie building Wexford and he did go there a couple of weekends after it was finished. However JFK loved the water so Hyannis Port remained his favorite place to get some R&R. Also the Secret Service had to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to make sure they were set up at WEXFORD as well. Myself, I love WEXFORD and would gladly live there!!!

President Kennedy hated this place. He said to a friend, "What the hell am I doing way out here?" He let Jackie build it as a retreat for her to keep and ride horses and join in fox hunts. It had zero appeal for him. After his assassination, Jackie unloaded it as quickly as she could. The scenery is very beautiful!

It's a darned interesting question. Back in 2016, I decided to find this place and get as close as I could...which wasn't very close...Only to the gate with the stone pillars that still (faintly) read 'WEXFORD". It is sad.

I would buy and preserve this home if I had the money. It would not be modified or exploited in anyway! Always available to the family. I would erect bronze statues of the family as they were at Wexford in November 1963.

Somewhere in the US government or the Kennedy library there would be specifics about a bomb shelter that someone built for the sitting US president. I can understand why no current owner would want to crawl up there and find out. Very creepy.

Jackie Kennedy spent many hours supervising every aspect of this house. She wanted a retreat in horse country . She even hung Indian karma sutra pictures on the walls. Unfortunatley for Jackie, JFK disliked the house. He thought the ceilings were too low and the ranch style was off putting. They Kennedys only stayed here three times. Jackie sold it six months after the assassination.

Great to see this, and to get a feel for what the house offered the Kennedy's. We didn't know the Reagan's later stayed there as well.
Two minor details are wrong. It is NOT the only house built for a sitting President. The Gettysburg home of President Eisenhower was built while he was President. The other point is that the Kennedy's stayed at Wexford the week before he was killed, not two weeks. As not sign says in the video, November 16, 1963. The President of course, died on Nov 22nd.

Its like a typical countryside house in Ireland - not including the stables and bomb shelter of course. I stumbled on some home movies of the Kennedy's here a few nights ago but it made me too sad to watch it all.
