A Deftones song without the chill vibe: literally the next track on this album, “Elite”. Won the Grammy for best metal performance that year. That’s probably the closest you’ll get.

@@treverditsch1236 I know Deftones purists will probably point to “7 Words” or “hedup”, but the verse is “7 words” is definitely chill and “hedup” is one of the most positive songs ever (still heavy as fuck, of course). “Elite” is, IMO, the most aggressive song they’ve ever done.

@@jcreature11 the vibe is intentionally restrained in the verses to build tension . “Change” is an evolution on the theme. Yes, the lyrics don’t let up, but the feel does.
'Digital Bath' and 'Teenager' were a crazy midset interlude when they played live when 'White Pony' came out. They killed the lights and had stars reflecting off everything for ambience, Chino just soaring vocals standing on a something on the front of the stage, soothing the crowd and then BANG, back into the heavy stuff for like the rest of the set. 'Digital Bath' totally changed the mood in the venue, 'Teenager' is even calmer. Very hard songs to fit into a live set in the right way. It's time for a break from the chaos for like 6 minutes. And then bangers all the way to the end of the set.
Teenager has a crazy vibe. Makes me feel like when I would hangout with a girl I use to like back in highschool and we finally got together. It's a nostalgic one for sure
Deftones has a rock song for everybody. From their heavy stuff to the slow melodic stuff they’re so versatile! My favorite band all time.
21 years ago fellas this song introduced me to what would become my favorite band, still to this day. Like Chevelle, their catalogue is so deep, awesome to see you reacting to these.
"Bored" is my favorite old school Deftones song that you haven't done yet.

Big giant shout out to Abe because the drum part is fucking lit (and not easy), it gives the song that particular rhythm that makes it so delicate but at the same time raw
Some bands broadcast much more than just a song. They present a journey, a transcendental and unique journey. Deftones is undoubtedly one of those bands.

Comparing Deftones to Radiohead makes it clear you’ve not heard Chino do harsh vocals (no disrespect). “Rocket Skates” is the first that comes to mind where he actually screams...and it’s ear piercing. “Hexagram” is another. 😊 Chino’s voice is just a whole mood. I may or may not have a playlist for, well...the bedroom...that contains several Deftones songs. That alone means I’m voting for him.
His screams are insane. Ones he had before he hurt his chords and after there is a difference but both are mind blown. Lotion and Head up would be great

Yeah, a lot of other reactors stop the video and kill the flow too often and then end the video right after the song. They do a great job of talking before and after and letting the song speak for itself in the middle.

This song always reminds me of having to turn down one the greatest women I've ever met because I was dating a not so good woman and couldn't bring myself to cheat on her. That night was like something out of a movie. I still get all stuck in my feelings when I hear it.

Front row in 2001 White Pony Tour, Denver. Chino Jumped in the Crowd and was singing while people were holding him up, and I believe he had a white shirt and tie on. Epic. This album will always stay as my #1 Deftones.

My 2 cents regarding Chinos vocal style -
I’ve always felt he’s doing a sort of R&B style/influenced vocals which is surrounded by the banging instrumentation.

This is my favorite Deftones song. Chino has a very nice unique vocal approach, but running up against a buzzsaw in Floor is just tough.
Chino is definitely in a category of its own.. been listening to Deftones since i was a junior in high school when they first came out almost 30 years ago.. he’s right up there with maynard from Tool… their music will never get old
