  • Banjul is the capital city of the Gambia, a small West African country bordered by Senegal. The city sits on an island where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its colonial buildings include the National Museum, dedicated to Gambian culture and history. Vendors at the lively Albert Market sell colorful textiles and local produce. The city's main entrance is marked by the immense, columned Arch 22 gateway.
I am on a mission to visit 21 countries in 2021 telling the African story the African way. So far I have done 6 countries. 15 remaining.

First and foremost, Banjul city is an island which is well over 200 years old and was founded in 1816 and currently has a population of less than 30,000 people living there, therefore it’s important to keep most of those old buildings, heritage sites and archeology in good shape for historical tourism otherwise once you knocked them down and replace it with fancy skyscrapers and luxury homes, all those 200 years history and ancient architecture will be erased.

Edward Francis Small. He was a Gambian. RIP! Independence Drive got it's name when Gambia got it's independence 1965. It was named Clifton Road during the colonial days. The hospital was then named Royal Victoria Hospital, now Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.
