Hey Cruisers, In this video we answer the question "How does room service work on a cruise?" We are sure none of you would have any trouble ordering room service on a cruise, but we thought it would be fun to put together a quick little video of the entire process. Even if you aren't interested in the process, you may want to watch this video to get a peek at the Carnival Miracle room service menu, and what a typical order looks like. Room service on Carnival Miracle might throw some people off a bit because not everything on the menu is free. We go over a few of the room service items that have additional costs associated with them. We also briefly cover ordering from the door hanger breakfast menu. If you have an early excursion preordering your breakfast is a great way to get an early start.

#1 tip for ordering room service listen to how Sheri speaks on the phone.
"We would like" not "We/I want"
"Thank you so much"
Thank you VERY much. We are big on manners in our household. My least favorite, but common ordering technique I hear often is "Can I get a...large latte, whatever". I don't like "CanIGetA"!
Halsey Robert - I also believe a "please" and "thank-you" go a long way - and makes others feel better! It doesn't hurt - easy to do (and the way I like to be treated and spoken to)!
Halsey Robert exactly...i hate when people say "i want" or "gimme" when ordering.
I agree , I unfollowed a vlogger before as she never said please or thank you and was very rude to people in the service industry while saying how Christian she was ! Go Cruise Tips!
I always go with a "May I have..."
The way you cleared the table was hilarious!
On Carnival now you can also order on the TVs which we thought was very easy to do and super convenient! Never had a problem ordering that way and was always correcr and we order room service almost every day of the cruise.
NICE! I hope they roll this out on all ships.
LUV ROOM SERVICE BREAKFAST ON NCL. AND YES GLAD YOU MENTIONED TIPPING THE SERVER. Now at one time, I am sure you remember that ALL ROOM SERVICE (on NCL) was FREE except for between 1am and 5am I think it was. Now $7.95 is not bad to order anything you want, but I still miss 24/7 complimentary room service. But am happy to have a free POT of coffee delivered in the morning :)
BTW I recently did the crossing on The Epic from Port Canaveral to Barcelona with a B2B to Morocco and The Canary Islands and it was FABULOUS :)
Welcome home! that itinerary sounds fabulous indeed!
Hi Sheri, Thanks for the tip on tipping! I'm afraid that I've been remiss on past cruises and not tipped the room service staff. We don't utilize room service very much at all (only 3 times on our last Princess 15 day Hawaii cruise last October) but I will remedy that with our next Princess 15 day Hawaii cruise Oct 2018 out of SF!
One of my favorite things about cruising - room service!! On Princess, I believe all items on the room service menu are free (except if you order a whole pizza)!! I generally spend at least one day of every cruise in my cabin (due to severe migraines), but it is so nice to pick up the phone and order some hot tea and something light to eat (if I can eat). And my cruise buddies enjoyed having the continental breakfast first thing every morning, enjoying their coffee (I had my tea), maybe a fruit cup and croissant or pastries in our pj's - then showering/bathing & going to eat breakfast!! Such a nice way to start the day!
Sounds like you've got it DOWN Bonnie! I'm sorry you suffer from Migraines! That's difficult!
I hate the migraines, but generally suffer from at least one each week (some last for 3 days - and I need to be in a dark, quiet room - and usually just stay in bed). I think that on just about all the cruises I've been on (since I injured my neck in 1994), I've spent at least one full day in the cabin during a 7 day cruise due to a severe migraine. Not the best way to enjoy the vacation, but if I have to go thru the ordeal of a migraine, at least I am in a nice room, can set the a/c down to keep cool - and call room service for hot tea, or ginger ale and I've asked for just plain buttered toast and it was delivered to my door!!
Thanks for all your tips and "how-to-walk-thrus". We booked our first cruise over a year ago and have been watching your videos for a year now (we depart Sept 10th out of Venice). I now have 4 cruises booked over the next two years!
Our pleasure
Thanks for another great video! I didn't know room service was free when I went on my first cruise 🤦🏽♀️ Learn something new all the time 👍🏼
I love the one shot where you just throw everything off of the table! haha :)
On Princess you can now order room service with the Princess@Sea web app ... Really cool
Leaving for this same cruise tomorrow! Thanks for sharing the menus!!
Our pleasure! Enjoy!
Great, now im craving that pizza. :)
It was SO gooooood!
It did look good! Was it the same kind of pizza that they serve at the 24/7 pizza place on the lido? Or different?
just came off of sailing on the Carnival Liberty. The continental breakfast was great for port day as we knew we would be oversleeping.
Valerie Stewart im going on the liberty in september! any tips? how did you enjoy it?
Nice!!
Thanks for this tip. It will come in helpful for our up and coming cruise.
it took 90 mins for one of my room service things and 45mins for the other..ive decided not to bother anymore..as a disable person, i thought it would have been easier..Nope..easier as slow as i am to go and get it lol.. have a nice cruise as always on which ever one you're on now :)
Came to check how long ago this video was posted because I'm starting to have CruiseTipsTV withdrawals! I know you guys were under the weather for a bit but I hope you are feeling better!
+Caleb Parker hey!! Thank you so much we are all feeling much better. My husband is back running again which is wonderful. Poor guy. Hope you can make it to the live stream this Saturday at noon Pacific time take it easy.
usually cruise ships have free food and it’s in a buffet kind of thing. I would just sneak in with all the food I want for free and go back to my room.
So if I read the article right it looks like carnival is starting to go to keyless entry finally. "The program kicked off on Carnival Splendor last fall and has since been added to Carnival Glory, Carnival Sensation, Carnival Vista and Carnival Victory." From the actual article
Yep, slowly but surely!
We will talk about this on the vlog tuesday- it's not actually keyless entry, but keyless embarkation.
how do you get that fruit in your room???
Thanks for that info...
Our pleasure!
looks good carnival 💙
Well another TIP for something I may just have to try on my cruise! :0) Ahhh I can see it now....sitting on my balcony having my lunch perhaps..... ? Just 120 something days and counting. lol Thanks for the tip Sherri and family!
Always a pleasure!
If only there was a time machine to take me to embarkation day...
RIGHT? I hear ya!
Let's eat!
what do you mean 2 to 3 dollars "PER ORDER"
+Dawn Shirv yes, total. Not per plate, but per instance.
CruiseTipsTV do you still have to tip if you did the prepayed tips?
Brian Bauer... U don't have to tip again they just do it for the waiters since they give them good service... It's more of a option to tip again if u feel like they did a good job ... And 2/3 dollars isn't bad
Do you tip if you've pre paid gratuities
Ha ha! Being British we say "Please may I have...blabla' ;D
As it should be! Where are people's manners!!!!!!!!!???
No idea! If i had ever said 'I WANT' my mum would say 'I want never gets' and then I'd never get the thing...
Stopped saying it after that =P
What should we do with the tray and plates after we finished?
+Sunny Y excellent question. We think it's best to call room service to have them retrieved but we were surprised to hear on this cruise that they want you to leave the trays outside your room, which we prefer not to do because it looks messy. That's the first time in over 20 cruises I've heard the room service staff recommend that.
Sunny Y - some cruise lines do not want you to leave the trays in the hallway, and ask that you call room service to retrieve the dirty dishes, but I have tried that, and they don't always come!! If there's something smelly, I put the tray outside, or if it is close to the time that the cabin steward will be cleaning the room - they will take the tray & dirty dishes! I know it doesn't look nice out in the hallway - but if there are overwhelming onion smells - I need to get the tray out of the room!
BTW - room service will also bring you ice to fill your ice bucket, which I usually ask for while I am ordering other things!!
I always just order thru the TV.
I wish I could order room service everyday!!! Lol, tho I bring my own jello cookies
Right? I can see them on the menu now "Packing ninja's jello cookies, best enjoyed with ice cold milk".
We like to order coffee and fruit every morning, should we tip? We just hang the menu card on the door the night before.
YES
It's up to you, but we do tip about $2-3 per order, and it's customary.
Rebecca Hulon - and YES again!!
its all free on disney
how long were you on hold?
+Dawn Shirv not very long, but we were trying to film the actual order being placed and the camera was rolling so it felt like forever!
Sheri, I've noticed that some people bring a plate of food from the buffet back to the cabin. In that case, what do you do with the dishes? Same routine as dishes from room service?
+diekmannucm pretty much :-)
Was it as good as it looked?
YEsssss!
Why do you only tip $2-$3 dollars? Shouldn’t it be 20%?
I am going on a cruise in 3 weeks
You forget to mention all you have to do is set you dishes outside your cabin and someone will pick them up!
"Cookies!!" 😂😂
Can I Have Your Job!!? haha Going On My First Cruise In August =)

Let Me Go On My First Cruise and I Will Let You Know =)
I Plan On Filming My Trip. Any Tips On Documenting For YT, But Enjoying The Trip Also?

If we prepay gratuities would we still have to tip room service?
If you’d like to yes. The prepaid gratuities don’t cover the room service folks.
We are going on the Indy and we are in an inside cabin for the first time and we are concerned about how it will be pitch black as we tend to wake up when the sun comes up, what should we do? We could set alarms but we probably won't want to get up at the same time everyday just wake up whenever we wake up with the sun, thanks
Interesting question! I'll answer on the vlog Tuesday!
Thanks!
Nathan G - you could ask for a wake-up call (I think there's a button for it on the telephone). Wonder if they'd let you bring a lamp timer?? I use them at home to turn on the living room lamp in the morning. I have a "hard wired internal clock" that wakes me up bright & early every morning (usually by 5:00am) even if I am in a very dark room!! I also notice that on the cruise ships, in the morning you start to hear people moving about in the hallways and the other inside cabins - then I realize it's morning!! I also hear the announcements being made (which you hear in the hallways), and on port days, I can feel & hear the engine noises as the ship pulls in to port (if it's an early shore excursion day)!
So we have done the door hanging thing 3 times and have never gotten out food do you have any idea why that might be?
No! I have never heard of that happening. I know there is a certain time you have to put it out by, the night BEFORE you want it delivered.
How to get wifi and what r the charges : like i connect my phone 24/7 with wifi
You’ll need to purchase a package once onboard
Why room service though if the same foods are available for free at the Lido Restaurant?
I'll answer on Tuesday's vlog.
CruiseTipsTV okay! :)
wow
Can i iron my clothes in sapphire princess cruise? How much?
+Flavel Queng I’ll answer in Saturday’s live vlog :-)
why did you break an elephant from a towel? It is not easy to make
Hi There! I noticed that you tipped room service & you said 2 to 3 dollars per order. Is this customary? I thought we tipped 13 or 14 dollars per person per day....which we have & have already pre-paid this for our upcoming cruise. I'm not trying to be a tightwad....just trying to get the correct information. So do you normally tip on room service?
+Gary Bellati many people tip a few extra bucks to room service as the room service folks don't always get tips from the main "pool". You're still paying your regular daily tips to cover housekeeping and main dining staff. This would be discretionary but is very common among cruisers :-)
Thank You so much!
and despite the pre-paid or FORCED gratuities I still tip additional and especially to Room Service and ALWAYS to The Cabin Steward and I recommend introducing yourself and tipping your Steward the first day and the last day :) I also tip bartenders and Casino dealers :)
PS- I'll cover this on the vlog Tuesday too!
On Princess, with free room service (even with the tipping charge on the bill), it is well worth tipping the person who delivers the food! They are always so polite, so neat - set up the tray wherever I ask them to (sometimes on the bed), they don't care if I'm in my pj's - I still get a pleasant greeting!! They deserve a few dollars in cash!! They work really hard, 24/7 room service!! On one cruise, we had been upgraded to an owner's suite (don't know how - just got a call from my travel agent 2 weeks before the cruise), and we could order anything we wanted from the regular dining room menu (which we got the night before). We were served out on our double balcony - and we ordered EVERYTHING (the person who took the order asked me how many people were in the cabin - when I said "just 2", they were amazed). They brought up a rolling cart with 3 shelves filled with covered dishes - and cloth napkins and real silverware, and even a 6 pack of Diet Coke for my cruising companion!! Luckily, we had the inside coffee table, the desk and the balcony table!! Had a fantastic meal (it was very inclement weather, a sea day & the ship was rocking) so better to stay safe in the cabin! The room service delivery was excellent - and I tipped well for the excellent service!
1:56 omg lmao!
;-)
Wow! 😳 that looks like take out pizza 🍕 from a pizzeria

Hey i'm back i have dealing with my baby
Welcome back! how's the baby?
hmmm Pizza :D
Towel Animal abuse! :O
$2 or $3 per order?... That's shameful. If there are other orders you won't be getting yours first. Is that what you tip at a restaurant? Smh stingy. I would never short someone like that
+Madhatrs1 gratuities are paid daily on a cruise ship, charged to your room- this is an additional gratuity for good service, on top of what cruise passengers already pay.
CruiseTipsTV yeah I know. When you get there.. Tip at least $5. Cruise ppl are so under paid. If you have a drink package. Still tip at least $1 a drink. Leave at least $2 on the bed for the maid. With a ty Note. Per day. Need a pillow or blanket. Tip $2 each. They walk so far. Take care of the help.. And they will take care of you. Don't leave your cabin a mess. Clean b4 the maid gets there. It's the difference between being. "That guest" and having some class. If your bourgeois.. You won't understand.
Your a cheap tipper--2-3 $ per order.Should start out with $5
