I was at this game and left right before #88 scored the TD to begin the comeback. I remember my brother saying, "Oh they scored, big deal!" I've never forgiven myself. On a side note, I grew up with #30 on Plano East (Philip H.) and also met the kicker that was kicked off (Brian M.) at a kicking camp before that year. What a great game!
Texas H.S. Football, there's nothing like it. My school is a rival of J.T. (Longview). Oct 31, 1997, was probably one of the best H.S. football games I ever watched. Us vs J.T on Halloween night. We won 20-14.
I was at this game on JT's side and was in 8th grade at the time while my brother was a freshman at JT. Me and my brother wanted to stay for the game but our folks wanted to leave. So the next morning when we see the newspaper with the score, we was like "How in the hell?" And me and my brother both was like "told yall we should've stayed 🤦🏾♀"
Rod Dunn number 22 that ran the kickoff back for the winning touchdown I believe was a state track star. Really hard to imagine that was his only touchdown that year with that kind of speed.
No. Rod Dunn was the starting point guard on the basketball team. Didn't even play high school football until his senior year. Mike Price no.7 who was the starting tailback and corner back was the track star. State champion in both high and intermediate hurdles also long and triple jump state champ.
@@davevenable512522 Rod Dunn was the starting free safety, and kick returner. He only played football his senior year. 3 year starter as point guard on the basketball team. Lightning quickness and a 4.4 forty sprinter.
Hopefully people won’t have a problem with this comment. But as a guy who’s 40 and has watched tons of sports in his life, Plano had no business even getting back in that game and the mishandling of onsides by Tyler was completely ridiculous. The Tyler kickoff return while ridiculous in its own right wasn’t nearly as bad as the multiple on side failures. One of the most bizarre sports videos I’ve ever seen.
I can’t imagine being on that Plano East team and fighting back just to have it end like that. It really shows how great the game of football is and how the relationships you build can give you a shot at anything. There really are no other times in life where you have those kinds of relationships. It’s similar to the kind on the battlefield.
It’s a shame Terrence Green holds so much pain. The guy played one hell of a game and battled to the end. Not only is there nothing to be ashamed of, he should be damn proud! It’s the fight, not the outcome. Too much out of your control to dwell on that. He fought his heart out. That’s all we can do!
So hear me out and serious question. If John Tyler had left their first string in this would have never been a historic game, right? BUT with 3: 03 (again, three minutes and three seconds!) left in the game and 41-17 score who wouldn’t rest your starters knowing you got two games left for state?
@@JimmyBortzfield hey dude....I was reading your comment and it made me to ask this.......c. benson was on a championship team that defeated macauthor of san antonio 54-0 for the title. Don't get me wrong, here in mississippi I remember a 5 loss team winning state and a few 4 loss teams. Please do anyone of u texas fans out there know macs record that year?
Selfish Stockton CUJO originated early in the 70’s in a game between John Tyler and Odessa Permian, Permian fans started yelling MOJO and somebody started yelling CUJO and it stuck. CUJO was a saying, but it really became a meaning with Coach Allen Wilson, he tagged a meaning to that, I believe a lot of people are chanting it as a motivator, but he gave a true definition to it which is NEVER QUIT, NEVER DIE! That’s one of the reasons why you never see the CUJO jerseys until playoffs, because if you don’t quit then you move on, but as soon as you quit and you give up you’re out of the playoffs.
That punt return also made me sick to my stomach. The kick returner just spoiled what could have been the greatest game in high school football. Good for him, bad for everyone else.
Let me this one got demolished this stadium hasn't open in years now but is closed now it's Been forever people haven't went to this stadium so I wonder what happened to the stadium and why did it closed down I was wondering

I disagree. B. State played an over confident sooner team that did not want to be in that game. This game murders that. Boise was never down 20 plus if I am correct.
John Tyler deserved that win the Kicker or Plano coach gamble and they lost lol The.outside kicks werent were really really playing football so like God was on their side lol lol lol lol
man insane the guy who ran it back for tyler was the guy who also botched 2 of the onside kick recoveries. Like what a way to redeem himself
Yeah I’ve watched that comeback a bunch of times and never realized that. That dude is F’n unreal
Roderick Dunn is his name from John Tyler High School 👍CUJO! CUJO!
Wow Best come back i've seen hands down
The only touchdown of his high school career, my lord lmfao
I was at this game, and was there until the very end.
Super B, I was there too, sitting on the John Tyler side in that corner where the winning run started.
So there were 18 seconds left and Plano East couldn't score

Plano E. Gets all the hype and got to be on TV 📺 BUT
they lost the game GO CUJO great win guys

instant classic may now be surpassed or at least 1 and 1b by north shore/duncanville
Naww, that does have near the heart attack effect, but it was a good game
He jinxed them by breaking out the Oreos too early.
Number 22, Roderick Dunn, my school teachers son.
Nice!!!
Unbelievable #22 only TD in his HS career! 7 guys over ran the coverage and once he got past them, he turned on the after burner.
7 tds in last 4:30.....including 3 by John Tyler without their offense seeing the field......crazy.
