Giving Credit on Social Media: Are We Taking It Too Far?

- Hello! Welcome or welcome back to my channel!
In today's video, I’m diving into the debate around giving credit on social media: has the pressure to credit every idea, trend, or post gone too far?
For Business & Sponsorship inquires, kindly email :)

Don't get me wrong, creators do deserve credit when it’s original and can be easily traced back to them, but where’s the line between fair recognition and over-crediting?
I’ll explore two recent examples: a creator trying to claim credit for a New York design sweater paired with leopard print jeans, and a makeup artist asserting they were the first to create a Halloween zombie makeup look. These cases possibly highlight how social media's obsession with credit might be causing more issues than it solves. Is the culture of attribution stifling creativity, or helping creators get the recognition they deserve?
As I share my thoughts, I would love to hear your opinions down in the comment. Thanks for watching! Kindly like, share and subscribe ❤️

First lets goooooo
you're the besssst!
no one cares. i dont get why people feel the need to comment this on so many videos.
when miss hadley is like 25 she’s gonna be so embarrassed by this whole ordeal. i’m so, so glad tiktok didn’t exist when i was 17 and crazy
It’s even harder when you go viral
As someone who does makeup I TRY to credit anyone I get Inspo from but there’s so much more to think about than just that. The smaller creator who just couldn’t accept the apology bc it seems not genuine is crazy
its always a good idea to acknowledge your inspirations. also, even if she felt the apology wasn't genuine, the others persons actions showed that she was making all attempts to correct her mistake, too bad it spiralled into something negative so quickly
If you ask someone to credit you and they do, then you kindly CALM THE HECK DOWN, why was the MUA who wanted to be tagged acting so OTT. Like girlie pop, if you act like that you don't deserve tags. Take like 20 steps back, learn how the industry works, take a nice deep breath, and come back when you've matured enough to handle this industry. Brands and people you want to collab with are not going to care how old you are & are not going to give you an ounce of grace, so if you can't handle that yet, don't get invested in it for the sake of not only your future career but your mental health.
Yeah it could have been handled much better
14:08 the fact that’s she’s still going is insane to me. She didn’t have to do any of that
It could have ended sooner
not the hadley chick completely doubling down after being so rude for no reason 😭 theres no situation where she deserved death threats but the lack of accountability was so funny, especially after saying she didn't want her video circulating around of a "minors face" without their consent but is.. posting her face to be seen by others?? the deflection was insane..
The whole story was insane
As a walking dead fan I am a bit livid that the make up look topic became THIS extensive. I am sorry but AMC needs to enter the chat? All jokes aside one tag would've been sufficient and wow bless this girl for using this much air to apologize and wanting to credit the original creator.
it could have been handled way better
Ok, can we talk about how having a good character and being genuine really comes back to you? I've always had this idea that good people get smashed by others when the drama comes, that we should never "hide the claws" because internet is an unpredictable mess therefore we should often stay on defensive mode no matter what-but Anna dealt with that mess so thoughtfully and genuinely caring for that smaller creator that I even felt a bit embarrassed for hating that hailey girl so much. Hope to be this calm and assertive when I grow old 😅
Besides, 20:36 that's so true, but every time I bring that topic to conversation I get answers like "what? you don't know how to block people? can't you just turn off your cellphone for a few weeks? I can't understand the concept of cyberbully, just get out of the internet and it's all good!"
Lol yeah, there’s a lesson to be learnt from Anna on being calm and assertive
why do so many tiktok dances just have people barely moving aside from their arms/hands? it’s kind of ridiculous.
If it’s too complicated it won’t go viral. So the simpler, the better
no o ne owns a dance or makeup bloody hell.. this is like middle school tier dramaa. unbelievably embarrassing that people think they can control other people's artistic expression
This is exactly why I’m scared to even start making YT videos
People who do this stuff will steal from anyone, no matter how big or small their following is
I get your fear but don't let that be the reason why you don't start, you never know who will be watching and how your work will be perceived. People may try to copy but you will always be the original
@ 🥹🩷
Ooop, not her clocking her Pinterest🫢
Lol right?
This... is literally how fashion/trends/thought/art works? You see something you like and you emulate it, there's absolutely no reason to have to credit every little thing that inspires you. Human beings have been around for thousands of years, thinking and creating. Nothing is purely original, but everything is always evolving. This obsession with "credit" is throtling creativity in the social media sphere. Obviously, crediting an artist is important if you want to use their work (i.e. a dance/song/poem), but if you're creating something of your own, that's now *your* art. It has nothing to do with the person who inspired you and you can choose to say where you got your inspiration (which is a decent thing to do), but it's not required.
I say this as an artist who has been afraid to share my art in the past for fear of having my own art stolen, btw.
THAT IS COPY, the credit that you mention those people inspired you is the less respect you give to the creator, being creative is hard and keep being artist is harder, the mindset you have is the reason why so many artist nowaday quit creating and every body is copying every trend
I think it depends. being inspired is one thing, and is a part of the creative process, but copying or stealing should not be done under the guise of 'inspiration'
also, don't stop sharing your art, you don't know how far of a reach it could have. Maybe add some watermarks and have a signature style to cement it as yours
My opinion on this Is if it’s something basic that anyone could think of then no credit is due like gluing flowers on your mirror very simple concept that anyone could think but if it’s something unique and without a doubt made by someone then credit is due example the demure trend some girl was made bc jools didn’t give her credit girl you don’t own the word demure you didn’t invent it either so no credit is due lol
someone tried to claim the word demure? wow, haven't heard of that
@@Itsbabygirlt not the word more so the trend they said they started it but used it in a completely different way than jools
This was a good video. I hope you get more views and followers soon.😊
Thank you for your kind words and thanks for watching 🫶
The new york outfit ‘issue’ is ridiculous. The lady who got accused was being way too nice. If I were her, I would’ve made a 1 minute video of me just laughing into the camera as a response
😂 if you had done that, it would have gone even more viral than it already did
If the original creator REALLY didnt want anyone doing her makeup look, she would not have posted a TUTORIAL showing other people how to do it for themselves 🤦♀️ coming from someone who writes music and posts it. People are brutal I only share work I know can get potentially copied or stolen at this stage in my career
Have you considered copyrighting your music to have legal protections?
@Itsbabygirlt yes, the only thing stopping me is the cost, it can be expensive for someone like me who doesn't make any profit from their music yet
The cosplay community is a mess with crediting.
Really? Isn’t it the same characters that everyone dresses up as?
@Itsbabygirlt ag it's silly thing like putting pockets in shields or the way someone does a bow that stays up and stiff, instead of sagging. There is some sort of caption copying as well. But it's just good not to be involved with the community. Every hobby has its drama.
Though the one thing we do enforce is crediting commissions and photographers/videographers.
I ended a friendship because a girl flipped out so bad , she was upset that I shared her fb post that she had shared from a really popular account , and I didn't like her post before reposting. . She flipped so bad I had to block her and her number from my phone , my boyfriends, and my best friends phone
Omg?! Over a post that she herself had reposted
Everyone with a bbl need to credit Kim K , Black Chyna & Nicki
😂 and now the bbl era is out
Technically the Brazilians were doing it first hence the name "Brazilian Butt Lift" or BBL for short 😂😂those three women need to thank 🇧🇷 first
Good evening: When you post something that's uniquely yours on SM. Especially without it being trademarked etc. It's out there 4 the world to see. And you can't do anything about it if someone has used it . I don't think alot of ppl realize that. Actually I know. The fact that Anna was inspired by Headly, straight up should've told her she was credited. Key word "inspired " That girl was so rude & very disrespectful. Seemed like other girl was nice as can be. Anna didn't deserve to be treated that way. These dayz, some ppl take things way too seriously. It's so crazy. High school or not be respectful. It gets you a long way. This partly why I'm not constantly on SM. Headley so called makeup look was actually used in children's movie Nightmare Before Christmas, makeup ads, 90's cartoon Rugrats, ANTM ( America's Next Top Model ) & so much more. Nothing new. That leopard outfit is so basic. I wore something like that, in H.S which was 30yrs ago. Got the pictures to prove it..!! I'm pretty sure others b4 me has dressed the same or similar way. Peace ✌🏽✌🏽..!! Great video 🙂 hope some ppl learn from it. It was teachable.
Thanks for watching! the only correction I will give is, just because you share your creativity on social media, that doesn't mean people should outright steal your work. Apart from it being wrong, building a career based on other people's work will have disastrous consequences in the future
Guys it's the last days. Read 2 Timothy 4:1-5 to see for yourself. If you're not in the word, you need to get into it. If you are, read more. The enemy is getting trickier and we need to strengthen our armor. God bless you all!
You are incorrect about covering a song: permission is not needed. Anyone can cover any song, as long as they pay the proper licensing. It is covered under something called the "Compulsory Mechanical License" if you want to look into it further.
Paying the proper licensing is part of the process of seeking permission before you use someone’s original song
😂I am at a lost. Why are you saying "Unalive"?🤔
RUclips doesn’t allow you to say certain words on the platform
love how you brung this conversation♡.
I was a " artist " doing #Fanart on Instagram. And alot of this " Give me credit " , Was insane to me...
Because the artworks we did , Was a Anime characters, That are owned by publishment companies😅, Already copyrighted e.t.c
I can imagine how tiring that would have been. especially because you would have had multiple people all claiming you need to give them credit
@Itsbabygirlt Absolutely!! Just they are using somebody's ideas. Claming and trying to get money from " Comission " is disgusting.
I was just posting my artworks that is my hobby, Aside being a beautician in the Japanese Entertainment Industry. Just how people are greedy and thirsty to wanna live like Monet , Van Gogh e.t.c is just ridiculous...
